MANGA! MANGA! MANGA!
hi there....

Manga comes from Japan, but then again there is American made Manga or Original Language manga. I saw a French one once.
Other countries make their own version of Manga. :) I read Amazing Agent Luna before and it's awesome. |

mangas were based off of american comics and disney films, they built off of what america had started with superman and batman etc during the 1920s. However, it wasn't until the 1950s or so that anime/manga really took off when osamu tezuka created astro boy. He also went on to create a variety of other popular series such as blackjack and kimba the white lion- and his unique art style and flow of his comics was the beginning of modern manga. thus the guy is commonly known as the father of manga and anime, and today manga are far more popular than american comics.
however, manga aren't exclusive from japan. There are comics printed in america, and prints similiar to manga come out all over europe. I know someone who has based her art style off of the japanese group CLAMP who has created and sold original comics/manga in her home country of spain. In korea there are also extremely popular manhwa- some of which- like bride of the water god, surpass most manga in terms of art quality and beauty, and have gained worldwide fame and popularity. However, unlike manga, manhwas are not made into anime. While there are many cartoons that come from all over the world, Japan is the country that most commonly turns popular written works into anime, and thus they're the most known for it; however, there are many animes that come from other countries. |

xXastraXx is right. There is also Man Hua which comes from China. I hadn't read to much of that though. :S Since I don't know how many of those titles came to the US.
I remember reading Lost World and saw some American Cartoon characters from the 1920s in it. |
