Manga - Never read one - Suggestions?
I'm super into action and romance. I'm not a fan of boring anime with a lot of mindless chit chat. Nothing school based either :)
I've never read a manga but I have friends who have. I'd like to read one, but I'd like to read A GREAT one. Lol I don't like to read if it doen't totally captivate me. |
Deathnote is my favorite, but it's not entirely action. More mental-based. Maybe Trinity Blood?

Mmmm...I was really fond of Kamichama Karin....If you want a book with a lot of fan service you could go for Negima!

Fullmetal Alchemist. It has a strong focus on humanity, what it means to be a "human being". Its full of amazing action scenes and the manga-ka has a great sense of humor.
|
Very few have managed to keep my attention, the ones that have are: Dragonball Z, Hajime No Ippo (Fighting Spirit, also probably my favorite manga), Yu Yu Hakusho, and the Kinnikuman/Ultimate Muscle mangas that I never had a chance to finish. I tend to like action with humor mixed in.

What kind of romance are you into? If you don't mind male x male romances, I suggest the Junjou Romantica and Sekaiichi Hatsukoi mangas to you. They're made by the same artist and are still on-going. Just a fair warning, there are some "mature" scenes in both series. If you're not 18 or older, I'd hold off on reading these series.

I'd recommend Chobits. It's a good classic to start with for anyone. There's only six volumes so you don't have to worry about buying a huge series of say 32 books. It's part romance, part sci-fi I'd say. It's about a boy who finds a persacom, a personal computer that looks human. It's entertaining but also prompts a bit of thought as to what roles computers should play in our lives.

try tsubasa??

I love Mars personally. It's 13 volumes so it's not too long. It's basically a bad boy meets good girl type of story with a few twists thrown in. I don't typically like stories that are like that but it was pretty well written.

Let's see... There's Sailor Moon and Alice 19th. Those are my top two to recommend to anyone who want's to try reading manga. There's also another series called DNAngel which is alright depending on who you are..

Hope you don't mind but I looked at your profile to see what age you may be and since you seem older so yeah the high school drama ones probably will bore you to tears. I think you would benefit from the Josei type titles. Josei manga are aimed for "mature" women and up. Currently I liked With The Light Rising an Autistic child, Solanin, and Nana (although it's technically a Shojo title for whatever reason). You can also try titles that are aim for older men like Monster, 21st century boys, and such. Good luck.

I think you should go for Fullmetal Alchemist, which is really great. Or if you want more romance, The Bride of the Water God. It's a Korean Manhwa and not a manga, but the art is excellent.
|
I know you said you don't want school based ones, but my first manga was The Devil Does Exist and I loved it. It's a romance and a slice-of-life story. It'll probably come across boring, if you're not super into romance.
|
I'd suggest Rurouni Kenshin. It's one of my favorite. Samurai's make some great action in there, and there's some fights I found pretty good. The anime was good as well, but I enjoyed the manga more. There is some romance in Rurouni Kenshin, nothing too overwhelming, either :)
