Is Yuri/Yoai offensive to homosexuals?

I've always wondered this.

There'll always be people who take offense at something or another. But IMHO, it's pretty much like asking if heterosexuals are offended by hentai/porn. :\

Well true. But I tried to write homosexuals in my fantasy novel and that made some of them angry..I guess it's okay if Japan does it and not America?

Antagonist 01-19-2012 02:49 AM

I think Japan is desensitized over these things. Just look at their porn industry. Americans tend to blow things out of proportion oftentimes. Won't go into any examples, since I'll probably get hounded for that...

Yeah >.> I wonder if the creators of these ever get flammed and all that too.

Antagonist 01-19-2012 03:14 AM

Creators of yaoi and yuri, you mean? :O

Probably yeah. There will always be those people who are dissatisfied with everything and anything and flame for the sake of flaming. :XD

I'm confused. How is writing out gay characters offensive to the gay community? Makes no sense to me.

Alura--x--Uneii 01-19-2012 04:27 AM

Well when I asked for advice on it on kindle they were flaming me, maybe because I'm Christian? Though my religion doesn't affect the way I live entirely. It just doesn't make sense to me either I don'r know if books are different from anime characters or what..

It's dependent on, I think, if you've done your research. To be plain, yaoi is usually pertaining to the subject of actually doing intimate things. Homosexuals or heterosexual males--because a great many people in the roleplay community are female--may find it offensive that intimate relations of a homosexual nature are portrayed the way they are, simply because by the logic of how it actually works, it's not being portrayed right, but in a glamorized fantasy moe-moe desu way.

This could be said of heterosexual relationships as well. And I know many people in both areas who do take offense to glamorize portrayal, and want something more realistic.

'w' That's my opinion. xD Naturally there are other ways I could go in depth, but I think that'll do for now.

Maybe, but this is Japan we're talking about otaku eat that crap up >.> and it IS a cartoon. Although a lot of yuri is intended for guys so maybe the creator thinks that's what guys want to see..unless the creator themself is homosexual...

And I think a lot of hetersexual pairings in anime aren't very realistic either.
