Shoujo Animes
Is it just me or has there literally not been any good shoujo animes since late 2009?
I quit watching anime in the end of 2009 because I had seen everything made up to that point that interested me, and I've recently been looking back into anime to see if there have been any good shoujo animes released, and I can't find any other than Kimi ni Todoke. Before that, there were five or six good shoujos a year. Itazura na Kiss, Bokura ga Ita, Lovely Complex, Nodame Cantabile...just to name a few. So, what do you guys think. Is the golden age of anime over, or am I just unaware of what's been popular the last couple of years? |
Hey, ElysiumFate! We've got a forum dedicated to dicussing Anime/Manga, so I'm going to move this on over there. :)
|
Oh, whoops. Guess I didn't look hard enough! Ah well.
|
Ah, I love Bokura Ga Ita! Yeah, I don't know, maybe I just haven't been looking hard enough? But I just hate how most shoujo animes have sparkly-eyed & extremely naive female leads. I prefer something more serious. I guess I just don't like to watch the typical shoujo animes out there haha.
|
Bokura Ga Ita was amazing! I think I'll have to go back and rewatch it since I can't seem to find anything new. XP
|
Yes, wasn't it! I don't think I'll ever love another shoujo anime as much as I loved that series. I cried so hard at the ending. Ugh.
|
Bokura had a bad ending? Hmm. I don't remember that. o.o Now I really have to go rewatch it.
|
Most of the Shoujo I like is older, too. I agree about the shoujo past '09 not being all that great. But I feel this way about most anime in general.
|
I agree on that as well. It seems like anime creators have sold out or something. I don't understand why so many animes are based off of games at this point--there are so many brilliant mangas crying to be made into brilliant animes.
|
Shoujo anime does not usually sell well, so that's the main reason there has not been many as of late.
Regardless of whether or not it was actually good, if the DVDs don't sell.. you're probably not gonna get more. xP There are a few this season though, like Kamisama Hajimemashita, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, and Sukitte Ii na yo. Oh and I guess Hiiro no Kakera would count as one too? The other three are much better though. Saying they've "sold out" just because they're not making what you would prefer to watch is kinda lame, though. xP If you want more of a certain genre, support them by buying the DVDs, manga, or other merchandise that's available. |
I wouldn't say I'm lame because I don't like that they're not making the kind of shoujos I liked anymore. The shoujos I liked had massive followings, and yet you no longer really see that. I would say that has to do with the wrong kinds of animes being made, at least as one of the reasons.
But those are animes I've not heard of (for the most part) so I shall have to look at them. |
I didn't say you were lame, nor was that my reason. d:
But yeah, maybe one of those will be to your liking. o: I'm enjoying Tonari and Kamisama, myself. Sukitte I'm mostly watching to listen to Takahiro Sakurai talk. XD Not too fond of any of the characters in it so far. |
Yeah there hasn't been a lot of good ones lately.
|
Say i love you is from shoujo manga!! really good hehe
|
Yeah, I just watched that, it was sweet. :)
It was very short and condensed, though, which is something I don't like about today's shoujos. They don't let them make more than 13 episodes. |
After exposing to ultra lot of manga, having very personal unique taste...
Not even most of the titles you people mention is good enough for me. XD My bar is set up veeeeerry high up in the air, the recent animes or manga were just merely... in the level of tolerable. Classic manga is the best. |
I agree, I find myself preferring boy animes, the last one i've watched is school DxD and I was quite shocked at first, but I got used to it and it's pretty funny...
|
I haven't actually watched any relatively new animes, let alone Shoujo; I usually wait until a series is finished or near its end before I start watching it. Imagine how long it took me to watch Sailor Moon? XD
But I agree; 2009 and before were always my favourite Shoujo's. I should probably think about finding some more animes to watch... ._. |
