Art or Entertainment
 

I'm a fan of opinions and discussion. So let me present you with a question.

What is your opinion of comics as a medium? Do you feel that it is an art form, or simply entertainment?

I'm very much an artist and I feel that comics are just that, art. Something that at the end of the day, the artist can be proud of creating.

However I know some people who enjoy the story, reading it, and being entertained. Then they go on their way. That is okay too.

What about you?

I love comics.
I think it is both an art form & entertainment.
There have been many great comic book artist, but it takes a good writer to keep you interested in the story. Without the writer then the comic would just be something pretty to look at. Then again without a good artist the best story could become dull & boring.

So it is a balance of both?

I think so.
I like having a balance between the two.
It doesn't have to be perfectly balanced all the time, a little either way keeps things interesting.

That makes sense. I have to admit I like things with good art in it. I won't enjoy it though unless the plotline is decent. Either comedy or something engaging if you understand what I am trying to say there.

Both. I will not read a comic that is just pretty art, I will find other works that the artist has done. And I refuse to read a comic with shitty art.
Lucky for the world right now the best of both art and story is currently being printed.

just look at that and try not to drool over the art. And when you start to read it you are completely sucked into the world and rooting for the good guys, hissing at the bad guys, and finding yourself feeling bad at the mercenaries hired to kill the good guys because they get the shit end of the stick.

Oh wow, now that is beautiful art.

That's one of the cover arts. But the interior art is of similar quality. Fiona Staples is one of the best comic artists in the business right now, in my opinion.
