Marvel is really over rated and they really don't hold a candle to DC. Although I'm only really voting for DC for Lobo's sake... Can you tell I'm obsessed? XD

Tough question. 7 or 8 years ago it would have been Marvel all the way - the X-Men and Spiderman cartoons were my favourite shows. (Along with Iron Man to a lesser extent.)

These days Justice League and and Teen Titans are more what I watch, when I get a chance.

Reading wise I only really read Green Lantern Corps, Supreme Power/Hyperion and Runaways.
The rest of what's out there is either needlessly convoluted or is a massive crossover. Not to mention that with 40 years of history it can be hard to jump into a series.

I'm gonna vote for Vertigo. >_>

I do love Veritgo a lot more than anything.
Fables, Sandman, and others, always for the win with Vertigo.

I love the Avengers, Iron Man, and Deadpool with Marvel. DC - my favorites are Secret Six, JLA, JSA, and some of Batman's books.
However, both Marvel and DC have been pulling some terrible story lines and character massacres out of their asses lately. Marvel fell down hill as soon as they introduced Civil War (they were trying to make a metaphor for the war in Iraq and assassinated Iron Man's character) and DC bit the dust with 52 (this is where they really started just slaughtering beloved characters, fridging them for the whole Grim!Gritty! plot lines).
It's tough to tell which is my favorite now. Secret Six from DC is still doing awesome, and there's always Marvel Adventures from Marvel when current 616 continuity makes you want to stab yourself in the eyes with a fork to stop the pain. I'm still tied between the two, they both have their merits.
The only other comic I read with any faithfulness is by DarkHorse - Hellboy has never disappointed.
@ Akasha: it was brought up during the JLA/Avengers cross over that while DC has more powerful characters, Marvel's super-heros have more going against them. DC's heros are beloved by the public, while in Marvel the public tends to be wary and even hate super powered beings. And I agree with you completely about Western comics' influence upon Manga and Anime. American comics predate modern manga as we know it today about a good 10-20 years or so (although similar storytelling for manga was done much earlier).

I prefer Marvel mostly for X-men, but I love Static Shock which is DC. Plus I love manga and webcomics.

For the longest time I was all for DC. Then I started to fall more twoards the marvel comics due to X-men. As I moved along I came to the solid conclusion that I simply don't have a real preference. It tends to lean depending on what comics I really want to read or what characters are being tossed into an online debate.
I love the X-men and Fantastic 4 but on the other side I adore the Teen Titans and Static Shock. It all really depends on which comics (or childhood spin off cartoon. :P ) you're asking me about exactly.

I'm a Marvel girl through and through.
Marvel, in my opinion, just has more realistic characters.
DC seems to have a lot of Superman like heros who just don't seem real.
Marvel has the dark heroes, the heroes with problems, and heroes who are simply insane.

And let me add, Marvel has cooler sounding heroes too.
DC had Justice League, Marvel has the Ultimate Avengers.
I think we can all agree which sounds cooler.
