I like Avatar a lot, but I really don't consider it to be anime. I mean...for me, anime is animation from Japan--hence the name. Cartoons are American made, but...I don't consider Avatar to be a cartoon, either. Cartoons generally don't have any plot, you know?
I guess I consider it American Animation, which I guess...maybe you could slide with American Anime, but...I don't know. I sort of feel like I've just become a hypocrite. I used to make fun of avatar before I ever watched it and would call it an anime ripoff...now I kinda regret it. One day, to make my sister get upset, I turned on an episode of Avatar to torment her, and then in the process of making fun of it...realized that I really did like it. I kept it kinda secret to myself for a little while until I found out that more than half of my friends at school liked it, too, so that was cool. Especially since I'd gone out and bought the first book...and then I watched the rest of season two (still haven't bought the second season on DVD, but I will...) and was just in time to eagerly await season three (for like, a year and a half...). And...now I'm still waiting for season three because Nick hasn't been showing it for the longest time... |

I love Avatar! I've been hooked since it first came out. And I just got My digital cable back (bows to cable god) so 've been sitting in front of the TV every moring watching it. ^_^. Plus the use of different martial arts for different bending...very nice
But they need some new episodes... |
I absolutely, positively, undeniably LOVE AVATAR. :33 Am I the only one excited that it's going to star airing again tomorrow?? EEEEEP! I scream everytime that commercial comes on. TOTAL FANATIC. Even though I probably already seen the one that they're going to show tomorrow..I'M STILL EXCITED. 8D

Have to admit I like it and secretly liked it when it came out. I don't know if I'd call it anime now but doesn't defeat the art being well done and storyline being fruitful.
I was really excited to see the new episodes are coming out this week and the movie on Saturday *I believe*. For the longest time I was waiting for the end to come about so this is pretty cool. I've grown to like Uncle and Zuko a lot after watching it for a while but Sakka makes me laugh. >w< So far I like all the characters and haven't been annoyed by them, which is a gem to me. Most hated character would be Zuko's sister though...bitch. XD |
Avatar is great! I mean, good story, characters, voice actors... It had a lot of things going for it. I didn't watch it as often as I would have liked, but I saw most of the episodes, and caught the ending. I have friends that really obsessed over it because it seemed like a great breakthrough cartoon for America that gave a nod to anime. (Ha, hello America, capitalize on anime since it's popular. Mucho money involved!) So yeah. Yay Avatar! :nod:

Haha, Avatar is intense. I guess I'm one of those "obsessed people" that Bun was talking about. Seen all the episodes, still craving more. There's really nothing else they can do with the series, though. I think it's popularity was based mainly on it's epic plot/storyline and great character design. I mean, what's not cool about people swinging around water to slice through giant pieces of rock some arsehole threw at them because they're supposed to save the world? Also...Kataang & Tokka = win.

my favorite show if i had to pick one on tv right now, but i actually didn't realize it was an american anime until the first time i was halfway through the series. it is addicting though and it makes me laugh but i haven't finished it yet.
also i think there are two wii games out. have't played them though |
i liked it even though some thought it was a 'kiddy' anime , it was fun compared to other american animes.
i haven't been able to watch the last 10 episodes though :( ......... |
I really liked Avatar. Although I must say I would have much rather Zuko to end up with Katara.

I've only seen bits and pieces of this show, half the first season and scattered episodes from the rest, but what I've seen I love. It's funny, interesting, and intelligent-- and it grows over time. Originally it was aimed at kids, and at some point they realised their audience was actually much older than who they were targeting, so they changed. It's a great show, and I can't wait til I get time to finish it.
But, uh, I find myself screaming inside and so have to say: do you really, honestly have to call it "American anime"? Jeez, it's a cartoon. Car-toon. It's not that hard to say... It's not from Japan, so it's not anime; a word which means cartoon anyway. Can't you just say "cartoon"? |
I must admit, I was very resistant to the show at first, I thought it was just another American cartoon trying to cash in on the popularity of anime. But then I gave it a chance and found it well animated with a deep, well thought out plot. I've loved it ever since! Who wouldn't fall in love with Toph? She's just so darn awesome! And Yue! Oh Yue, I will always love you even when Sokka seems to have forgotten. I don't care if Sukka is cannon, I want Yukka!
But... why is this in the anime/manga section? It's purely American made. |
I like how their hairstyles change a lot, because that means the animators have a good idea of what their characters look like without the hairstyle being what defines the character.
Mai and Suki are probably my favorite characters. The end of the 2nd season when Mai doesn't even care or put up a fight and says "Just take the bear" made me laugh. One of my other favorite quotes in Avatar is in the first season, i forget which episode, when a town floods and a little girl sees her doll floating in the water and fishes it out, and she says "Mrs Pretty!" |

The movie is going to be made by M. Night Shyamalan, it'll come out next year. <3 I really liked that anime series. I found it adorable.

Avatar is actually a decent American Anime. They are making a live action movie. A trilogy I believe. I'm not 100% sure. They made an announcement at Comic Con about it.
