I LOOOOVE the show!! It's funny, and the manga is really good to, if you can handle all the butt-kicking action!! beware though, lots of nudity XD

This is one of my favorite series. I love it to pieces and I enjoy reading fanfics too. Poor Ranma. xD He's my favorite.

Ranma was and still is my favourite manga series. It's amazing, it still can make me laugh so hard ~~

They totally screwed the anime tho, since only season 1 and season 2 followed literally the manga storyline ..

Some of the OAVS are quite nice tho ^^

I never watched the anime. Probably probably would have flipped if she saw what it was really like.

I do want to watch the movies. The first one looks funny. Actually the whole reason why I got started on Ranma was because I saw the preview of that movie somewhere. xD

I hated all the girls except the Tendo sisters. I swear Takahashi just created them to piss the hell out of everyone .. =)

Shampoo was - in my opinion - the most annoying character ever, always hanging to Ranma when it was pretty clear to everyone except to her that he wasn't interested. She was soooo selfish. And poor Mousse.

I despised Kodachi .. She was just insane. And Ukyo ... well, Ranma did care about her, never understood why though.

My favourite characters were Ranma ( both male & female, it was a nutso character), Genma, Happosai, Ryoga & Kuno. I liked Akane most of the time because most of the time he beat the hell outta Ranma he deserved it XD And when not .. Well, poor thing was too used to being called flat-chested.

Ranma universe was the funniest thing ever *_* *grabs manga & starts to re-read again*

now... NORMALLY I would agree..... but.... *eye twitch* I just can't.
There are lots and lots of aspects to Shampoo that people forget.
She IS intelligent - she just doesn't speak Japanese very well.
She got PUNISHED with the Spring of Drown Cat because she didn't bring Ranma back the first time she went home without him.
She may actually have been in love with him.

I like Shampoo.... I mean Ranma/Akane forever and all... but I like Shampoo - she's one of my favorite characters.

And for the record - if you think Ranma deserved it even half the times Akane hit him.... no... Just... NO!
Akane is a violent maniac.

Eck, pittying a character because she/he fell in the Jusenkyuo or however it's spelt is not the reason why I would like it =)

Poor Ryoga turns into a pig, and Mousse turns into a duck!

Shampoo and Kodachi have probably the characters I've hated most in the entire Ranma Universe. They seemed to be just totally unaware of what was going on, and especially Kodachi - she was DUMB - whereas Shampoo just decided to ignore it because she didn't like it. She super selfish 0_o; She tried tricking Ranma many times to get him to kiss her, marry her or whatever. I still remember that episode were they are about to marry cuz she had thread that linked her finger to his which had a spell that made him fall for her - now, that's something that Akane or even Ukyo - I am assuming - would never do, forcing him to marry them totally ignoring his feelings. I am sure Shampoo eventually fell for Ranma though, but that doesn't justify her ignoring his feelings.

The way she spoke didn't annoy me either, it was jusy her whole character. Kuno, for example, also decided to ignore Akane's or Ranma's femenine side opinion on whether they liked him or not but he was so silly it was fun XD

I respect the fact that you like her character but .. Ew XD She annoyed the hell outta me.

And I still believe Akane's beating was right most of the time - and yes, sometimes overdone, but come on .. Try to picture a real life Ranma 0_o;; I may adore his character but real life wise .. I'd beat the hell outta him too =)

Hmmm when I think about it... I think the only female characters I like in Ranma is Kasumi and maybe... just maybe a tad bit of Ukyo.

Akane is okay... just I really don't like the fact she always hit Ranma (I think only a few times he really deserves it) and I don't like the fact that she's the weakest or one of the weakest characters in the show and needs rescuing all the time. Even Ukyo can at least hold her own for a few minutes. Akane's temper is usually what throws me off.

Ukyo I think would happier if she gave up on Ranma. But yeah I like that fact that she's a pretty strong willed character. She's got her faults (such as her often tricks to break up Akane and Ranma)

Kodachi - Well I think we can all agree she's just plain creepy and crazy. I think all the Kunos are... but at least Kuno is somewhat tolerable. Kodachi and their father are just crazy.

Shampoo - I kinda have mixed feelings about her. I love the fact that she's a strong fighter. Some of the things she does... well Not the right way to get a guy. I think for girl, she's very forward and sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes it isn't.

Nabiki - I love what Nabiki can do... I just hate how she does it. I mean it's cool how she always has everyone under wraps and make a profit like no one else, but I don't like fact that she does everything like blackmailing and stuff (even if it is to support the family). Sometimes she makes everything worse. O.o

Obviously we don't need to agree on which characters are the best nor try to convince each other x.X; That's why taste is for, everyone has his or her opinion on a subject, thank gawd ^^

I forgot to mention I do like Nabiki tho. She was biased, sure, but it was kinda fun too ^^

xD Yeah exactly. I think the only character we agree on is that Kodachi is a crazy nut who needs to be sent away... far far far away.

and yes Nabiki was fun. I like the episode where she nearly met her match with the guy who would spend all this money and then send her the bills. *nods* Yup yup.

Discuss the guys? Alright ^^ Let's start with Ryoga, if you want =) But there wasn't really a guy I disliked .. Okay, Happosai sometimes could drive me insane but most of the times he was a laugh - remember him all starry-eyed, looking at panties? lol.

Ranma - I love Ranma. I love his character and how he always wins. I love the fact that he turns into a girl when splashed with water. (I think he got the better part of the deal, at least he's still human verse everyone else who turns into an animal). He's got a lot of things he needs to work on. Such as the whole foot in the mouth problem. But you gotta admit, he's a pretty cool character and not everything is his fault (despite what half the Nerima Wrecking Crew believes)

Ryouga - Ryouga is a pretty decent guy... when he isn't seriously trying to kill Ranma. I think his ability to get lost all the time is hilarious. I don't like whole P-Chan think and sleeping with Akane.

Genma - Can I kill the panda now? I don't like Genma and nothing short of seeing him dead will make me like his character.

Soun - Same as Genma except... maybe not such a violent death. Genma is cruel then Soun is just mean.

Mousse - Not one of my favorite characters. He's kinda... wishy washy. You know? He has the potential to be much stronger I think. And he needs contacts or laser eye surgery to improve his sight.

Kuno - Kuno after you get use to his ignorant ways and stuff, is pretty funny. Very stupid but very funny.

Older Kuno - Kill him now... he gives whole hawaiian sterotype a bad name. >.>

Happosai- A big pervert... but yeah kinda funny. He would make a good character if he wasn't chasing girls all the times. xD

i don't care if they're incredibly annoying or brilliantly funny! Ranma was one of my first anime series loves and i watched almost the entire series and I have ALL the japanese manga! i also have the english scanslations on CD but that's a different story

I even like almost all of the girls... tho of course some more than others. I like Ukyo a lot, and my good friend even cosplayed as her XD I'd still rather prefer most of the guys. I even like Kuno... he's hilarious XDDD My other friend cosplayed as Kuno... and damn he really looked like Kuno O.O;;;;; Oh, but the headmaster hawaiian dude actually is annoying. i also agree with Seito about the whole Hawaiian thing probably was a major turn-off. Anyways, he's still ok tho ^^

I was just a little insult because of the headmaster. And only cause I live here. XP But yeah he was okay... really weird but not my favorite.

Elie! *chus* <333 Haha, I never knew you liked Ranma so much! It's actually what hooked me to manga X3 I mean, I had seen other stuff, but Ranma was an instant love <3 It's still my fave manga :3

On the topic:

My fave character was always Ranma .. He's silly, he's inmature, he'd dumb, he's hell of selfish, he's arrogant, he's narcisistic and he's always insensitive, especially towards Akane - I never knew if he was unaware of the pain he would cause with his words or if he did it on purpose. But most of that was probably because of his father >.<, I do agree that Genma is annoying sometimes but he & Soun made me laugh, especially when facing Happosai ( cowards!) or Ranma's mother X3 His panda messages were also hilarious lol. But Ranma, besides all of that, was still the coolest guy .. He WAS cute, he was generous when he wanted to, he was loving ( even if he didn't know that or didn't know how to express it) and he kicked everyone's ass. He was also brilliant - just remember some of his tricks or ideas whenever he wanted to steal or achieve something. He was also perseverant & in a good manner, stubborn.
My first bishie luff was Ranma ^^ I think I could never get through the fact that Akane never willingly kissed - but I guess that's what Ranma was about, stuff we wanted to happen but stuff we KNEW could never happen, because someone would always ruin the moment X3

I loooooooved Kuno X3 He was so stupid, so hilarious in all his sillyness, I adored each of his sentences ^^ but on the anime he was dragging. I never liked that slave of him they invented in the anime either >.> Sasuke? I don't remember his name at all.

Ryoga was a love too. Poor thing. I loved how Takahashi would make him get lost everywhere - in his house, travelling around the world ... And would appear always breathless and holding a walking stick. Now, I didn't like P-chan that much :shock: Sometimes it was hard for me to believe they were the same person >.<

On Mousse .. well, I got to admit I didn't care much about it , but I felt sorry for the guy XD; It also annoyed me, however, that he blamed Ranma for Shampoo's obsession when it was pretty clear that he wasn't interested in her - despite probably thinking she was a beauty.

Yes Ranma was awesome! xD His reactions towards his mother were hilarious. I love who he can just "crossdress" xD Yeah I blame half the mess on Genma. Yeah kinda makes you wonder and think how they (Ranma and Akane) would react if they didn't have all that chaos around. But then again I'm not too fond of the pairing to begin with.

Sasuke? I think that's right. I didn't watch the anime. But his name does keep appearing in the fanfics.

Ryoga I'm amazed and where his ability would take him! He would end up in America and other the other side of the world. I bet he if tried he could end up on the moon. xD Yeah P-chan was annoying. >.> I didn't like him taking advantage of Akane like that. (And Akane was too stupid to notice)

Mousse really? I think he really loved Shampoo. (Yeah you gotta pity him though). And sometimes I wonder if Shampoo really loved Ranma? You know? I mean he beats her and then suddenly she wants to marry him. >.>

Ah. The failed wedding attempt was a good example. Well part of me still thinks that Akane blames Ranma too much. You're a support of the pairing, and for me, I'm not so much. Actually I think no one in the series really fits Ranma too well. So pairings wise, I'm never really happy with any pairings in the series.

Well, you know, Takahashi herself said in an interview that the only 'real' couple in Ranma 1/2 were Ranma and Akane and she thought they'd eventually get married ;)

And yeah, I loved them together a lot ^^ Because it reminds me a bit of how it was when you were 16, and you liked that guy, and he liked you, and what you did with him half the time was discuss about everything .. but without all the beating, haha. And they were soooo sweet together sometimes. There's Ranma sentence that I love and it goes something like this : 'It's like we only really see each other once in a while, but when we do, I am the happiest' .. I don't remember the exact volume, one of the latest, prolly, and it's when they go to watch fireworks together ^^ Obviously, the moment gets ruined by the appereance of people, I think? Haha, most likely.

So favourite couples would be Ranma and Akane and I really had no other, because I never cared too much about love interests from the other characters, not to mention they were obsessed with either Akane or Ranma. But I guess I'd give a go to Kasumi and Dr.Tofu ^^

Well it's probably because i generally obsess about a certain series and then move on to other series as i discover more ^^ I'm currently re-obsessed with bread-manga and eyeshield21 XDDD

Tho Ranma was one of the first anime series i got into (besides DBZ and Sailormoon of course). My best friend showed me the ice skating episode and my first thought was WTH?? but as we were watching it, it was so hilarious i was almost in tears XD


shosho: i agree, i also thought the english dub was rather well done. this might be because i saw the english one first XD. (my best friend doesn't like subtitles if she can get dubs). Tho the japanese voice are much "cuter" of course.

Eh, my first thoughts upon encountering Akane were along the lines of, "What a bitch!", so consequently I've never been too fond of her. Nabiki has a good balance of wit and machivellianism that makes her an interesting character to have around. And frankly, without Genma or Happousai, we wouldn't have a story.

As for pairings, I've never liked the cannonical pairing in this case. Shampoo at least has some personality to her and cares from time to time, Akane just beats the shit out of it and asks questions later, except when she really needs help from the person she just beat the shit out of. I personally favor Ukyo (who would theoretically be the rightful fianceé in the first place due to the fact that Genma promised Ranma to her first, took the dowry, and never formally revoked the engagement or repaid her father).
