Fond memories!~

Of course I watched Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball/Z/GT for years before I ever found out what manga was. I remember going into a bookstore and seeing a Sailor Moon Manga and saying " WHAAA!?! THEY MADE IT INTO A COMIC!? " and " WHY'S IT BACKWARDS!?"

Thank god for Internet. I got on the web as soon as possible and searched around for a bit.
Technically thought, I guess I'd have to say my first Manga was ' Shonen Jump ' because I hadn't actually bought or read any full volume of manga.

Ojo 04-16-2007 01:55 AM

I liked Pokemon when I was little, but I didn't know anything was anime until Yuyu Hakusho =D
First manga? Uhm...either Snow Drop (When I was in 6th grade, my friend almost didn't let me read it xD) or Yuyu Hakusho vol. 4, my first one ever bought.

Verron 04-16-2007 03:16 AM

my first manga was sailor moon. and I fell immediately in love with it, even though I was like 8 and ripped one or two pages out of one because I actually bent the sides of the manga back too far, trying to read the text... TT.TT

purplepaws 04-17-2007 02:55 PM

My first anime was Candy Candy...I didn't know those were called anime back then! :)

My Sailor Moon manga is all shredded just because the binding of manga back then wasn't very good...

Mine was Anderson Douwa Ningyo-hime. I got it not knowing where it was from, just that it was cool. XD My first anime where I knew what it was was Card Captor Sakura. Second was Gravitation.

Nuriko Windchaser 04-17-2007 11:25 PM

The first anime that I actually realized was different from American animation? That was Iria: Zeram the Animation, showing on the Sci-fi channel years and years ago during a short little marathon they were doing. Of course, the very next thing they showed was Green Legend Ran, which almost swore me off anime permentantly, it was so terrible... but luckily the one after that was Armitage, which saved the day.

But looking back, I had tons of cartoons that were actually Japanese Animation, brought over as kid's shows in the 80's. Such as one called the Enchanted Journey, about two tamed chipmunks trying to make their way from the inner city to the wild.

Shonen Jump, when I first bought it I thought it was like reviews on anime shows and stuff, and it had a pic. of yusuke form YYH on it and at the time that was my favorite anime, then I found out it was a colection of chapters form different mangas, I was so excited.

Atkascha 04-18-2007 02:43 PM

Technically, Voltron, I think. (Or to get even more technical, I had a japanese animated Little Mermaid as a kid, so maybe that.) Or maybe Unico. I dunno. Watched a bunch of import cartoons as a kid.

Buuuut Ranma 1/2 was what officially got me into anime.

That was one of my early ones, too. I've been trying in vain to find a DVD of it, I'd love to add it to my collection. But alas, I fail.

bipolar-panda-bear 04-19-2007 12:27 AM

First Anime? Inuyasha. from there though, I quickly moved onto Fruits basket, Ranma 1/2 for a bit, and now i'm obsessed with Model!! I love vampires, so Model, and Chibi Vampire captivated me!

Deathflight 04-19-2007 12:52 AM

xD I remember that poekmon was how I got introduced to anime. I was obsessed with it and still am. Only, now, I don't collect the cards. xP

Morien 04-19-2007 01:27 AM

Actually, the very first anime I ever saw was a version of Les Miserables. I'd give my left pinky in order to have a copy of that.

The first thing that I understood as anime was Sailor Moon. I got into that and Slayers back in early high school.

Woah, talk about memories!

Ling 04-20-2007 10:47 AM

Back as a kid the first anime I watched was the original Astro Boy...I don't remember a thing about it now, but yeh, I obviously liked it back then. Next was Techno Man, which I only watched because of my brother, still in the days before I knew what anime was.

Eventually Sailor Moon came on tv, and I finally found out what anime was and loved it.

I've enjoyed various different anime and manga ever since...I think my first manga was Angelic Layer but can't remember...

Skada 04-20-2007 06:21 PM

I remember MegaMan on regular TV... was that considered anime?

sukishine 04-21-2007 09:40 AM

A friend showed us the anime Fruits Baskets, then we started reading the manga and bought the anime.

Renji 04-22-2007 09:18 AM

This story's always kinda fun to tell, albiet it's not entirely interesting. Haha, but I've been to Hawai'i seven times. Nothing to brag about (it gets boring...) but in Hawai'i, it's about...roughly 26% Japanese. They'd have this boardwalk of vendors and kiosks, and some of the kiosk owners were Japanese and had televisions on their kiosks. That's where I first saw Sailor Moon. I noticed it looked different from American animation, but I still figured it was just a cartoon. Well, after visiting a few more times, I grew up kind of distantly watching these animes without knowing it in a sense. Now that I know what I'm watching, it's a lot more fun. lmao

Skaudie 04-22-2007 05:16 PM

The first Anime I was introduced to was Card Captor Sakura. My wife was (and still is) obsessed with it...So am I, now, but that's not the point. I was always attracted to Anime when I was little, but I didn't want my friends to think I was gay or something, so I never got into it. Then, I met my wife, and she got me hooked.

zeroSenshi12 04-22-2007 07:55 PM

Let's see... the first anime that I watched would have to be Sailor Moon back in third grade, I believe. I watched the show and then realized a few years later that it was a manga first... I have all eighteen now. XP

GeminiKizzy 04-24-2007 04:21 AM

InuYasha

Inu Yasha was my first manga/anima. I read them all and seen all the episodes. I just have to see one more movie to be totally caught up.

I'd forgotten about Sailor Moon! I was a closet Sailor Moon fan. The people I hung out with didnt' think it was cool at all. I really wish I didn't listen to them.
