Mostly I only watch subs because waiting for them to dub it takes way too long. Usually im watching fansubs while the show is still airing in japan, lol

Nyaro 03-18-2009 06:27 AM

:3

PennieLain 03-21-2009 01:42 AM

Dubs are so mangled that I really can't stand them now that I've found some good sub sites. I love Shippouden! And I'm watching CCS now with subs and it's so much better than the cartoon I used to watch everyday after school in English.

NiburuAkina 03-26-2009 09:12 PM

Hm..

I've never really liked dubbed versions but sometimes they are better.
It's kind of weird for me to watch an anime WITHOUT subs.

Mintly 03-30-2009 10:11 PM

Ahh, definitely in it's original language, for the best quality? Sometimes it makes more sense too like the motion is slower than it is said in japanese. You know what I'm saying? But watching japanese anime, I need to read the subtitles all the time which is really a fuss. :sarcasm:
Mm, when I feel lazy I'll watch them in english. :D
This reminds me of naruto, when they translated into english, ohh, the voices were so different! I couldn't understand who was talking if they did it fast. XD

xxJellyfishxx 05-12-2009 09:47 PM

Im a sub lover, I cant stand when they change the original language!

Chema 05-15-2009 04:53 AM

hmm...I usually prefer my anime in japanese with subtitles because the ones in english sound kind of lame to me ( no offense to anyone that likes them that way)

anyway, the ones that I did actually prefer to be in english were Inuyasha, because Inuyasha's voice in english sounded hotter than his voice in japanese, and Fruits Basket, because the mouse boy's voice in japanese sounded like a girl =X

AgentKaz 05-15-2009 01:55 PM

I prefer subs, though dubs are nice when you're paying attention to something else. I prefer most in Japanese with subs, because they seem to always get the voices wrong in dub.

TempusBliss 05-15-2009 04:25 PM

I don't mind either but sometimes I watch the Hellsing OVA in Japanese without subtitles, with subtitles, and in English (hey, most of the people talk in accents).

CinnoCake 05-16-2009 12:08 AM

Japanese with english dubs all the way.
American voice actors sound flat.

DarkAngel21 05-16-2009 02:12 AM

there is very few animes that i will watch in english just the voice acting doesn't suit me. I will say that if i do watch an anime for the first in english then i usually don't mind it but if i watch in Japanese first then i perfer it that and no other way.

Specially what happened when i watched Descendents of Darkness in Japanese first laugh a lot then watch in english to see how it was i didn't get though the first episode and had a confused look on my face apparently to my roommate :P

Le-Krynn 05-17-2009 12:30 AM

I generally watch the Japanese ones.

But I'll have to say that I really prefer Gankutsuo in English.

Rosamond 05-17-2009 02:13 AM

I prefer to watch them in japanese. I was used to watching Sailor Moon in english so the voices didn't bother me much but they still leave things out in the english version or they change the meaning of things so I rather watch it in japanese.

Psychotic Cricket 05-19-2009 02:21 PM

Personally for me there have only been three series in which I have watched both the English and Japanese without a problem. That would be Kaleido Star, Gundam Seed/Destiny and then Elfen Lied. In all cases I had watched the Japanese first to get the way it was meant to be then I go back and watch the English so I can listen yet actually see all the details happening. In those cases it took a bit to get adjusted to the voices again but they weren't horrible once you got used to it.

Though in all cases for Japanese. The Japanese are always better with the sounds, like screaming. I just reminds me of Kira in the Gundams cockpit screaming and it sounds so horrible and fake in the English but the Japanese are good at the screaming sounding real.

fiarra 05-27-2009 03:56 AM

*shudder* The Kaleido Star dub is just... super-grating to my ears.

I prefer the Cowboy Bebop dub over the sub because the foreign feel and jazz influence on the show makes it not seem out of place. The only other series I've willingly watched all in English is Jigoku Shoujo. The voice actor for Ai was really good at emulating the creepy vibe to her voice.

Otherwise I will always watch the sub

clow_sakura 05-29-2009 08:16 PM

i hav only ever watched the animes in english as i live in India but i did watch an episode on youtube once, you know the elevator part (gosh i love that part) , and i thought it was pretty cool, though it took me time to get used to it!

white_rose_phoenix 06-06-2009 10:55 PM

The only anime I think I prefer in English is Inuyasha, but that's only because I saw it in English first, before I knew about how to view anime in the original language.

Something that stands out to me recently as a case of being annoyed by an English dub was when I tried to get my sister to watch Ouran. She's a typical non-initiate to the world of anime, so I knew that I had to show her the dub to get her to watch it at all. Unfortunately, the English voice actress spoils the first episode straightaway because you can easily tell that Haruhi's voice is that of a woman. It certainly ruins the surprise.

lslines 06-07-2009 12:14 PM

It depends entirely for me. Sometimes the English dub is just awful, and sometimes the original Japanese is annoying, and sometimes I can't stand either. I'm used to watching my anime with my little sisters who aren't very good at keeping up with subtitles, so I'm used to watching things in English, and overall I have no problems with that. Like, Ouran High School Host Club I much prefer in Japanese, and hold quite the grudge against the dub; Fullmetal Alchemist I prefer in English; Gravitation, I hate both equally. So, I don't really have a preference...

Heruuna 06-17-2009 05:29 AM

I prefer all of my anime in English dubs, simply so I don't have to read subtitles that sometimes zoom by while trying to keep up with the action going on in the scene.

The only anime that I've watched in subs were only because the dubs weren't available.
So far, the only one has been Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei.
That tells how much I watch subs. XD

Ai-Chan 06-17-2009 07:00 AM

I guess I can stand to watch both. But I prefer Japanese. In the english version, the voices never seem to match the character. But in Japanese, the voice is almost ALWAYS a perfect match to the character and it adds onto the over all perspective of the person. For the most part, when I make an amv ( anime Music Video) I prefer for them to be in english with no subs so it adds more to the project. But the over all time, I generally prefer Japanese to english. Plus, The theme songs sound so much better in Japanese. If a Japanese opening is 'translated' to english, they change the words completely. the only thing that stays the same is the music. And often times, like in naruto, the song is completely changed, or the ending clips are changed into a slide show of pictures! It is majorly annoying!

starr111 06-17-2009 09:33 PM

I think Japanese is better. The voices are cuter and I prefer reading than listening.

RisikaFox 09-20-2009 08:37 PM

I will watch either, since I'm a fairly fast reader and don't find that reading the subtitles detracts from the watching experience at all. However, if my DVDs have an English track(I own several sub-only), I usually watch that. Although when I finish watching everything in my collection(which could take some time, admittedly), I plan on re-watching them all in Japanese. ^^

In my opinion, both English and Japanese soundtracks occasionally fail to quite match the voice that I imagined a certain character to have, and that's only natural, as everybody can read the same story and get something completely different from it.

Garronn 09-20-2009 09:28 PM

I prefer to see them in English, bud when its dubed the quality of the show drops a lot. The US has far more censorship laws then Japan does, You can even say common words like Diarrhea in dubed anime let alone the cursing that they have. anime thats in Japanese seems to be much better.

astellier 09-21-2009 11:28 AM

I don't really like watching anime (I prefer manga for better artwork), but I have to admit that anime is better in Japanese. Dubs are just, somehow, annoying.
Besides, the voices match with the characters.

Joey Kitsune 09-21-2009 08:25 PM

I guess I'd say Negima. Though, to be honest, whenever they speak English they do it quite well, don't they?
