►8D I don't really have a favourite. All of Miyazaki's films are really good. I have the art books for a majority of his films.

I love the way he talks about imagination. ^///^
My favourite has to be Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, even if Nausicaa is so stereotypical for a heroine and good. : 3 But then, I love the graphic novel series even more. My drama teacher - an ardent Miyazaki fan - lent me his boxset and I devoured it. If I can find a relatively inexpensive set, I'm buying it. The manga has the oppertunity to go into so much more depth than the movie, and convey so many more ideas... And for being written in the '80s, he was way ahead of his time. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki elements are evident, but also pollution and global warming... before it was really brought to attention! And the different perspectives. I love that story... Otherwise... Laputa, Castle in the Sky, Princess Monoke, My Neighbour Totoro, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service... Howl was good, but a bit of a disappointment for me. : ( I have a bookmark of Spirited Away. ^ ^ And my friend wanted to buy us Laputa necklaces. xD |
Princess Mononoke was the first Miyazaki film I fell in love with, and it is by far my all-time favorite. After that there's Howl's Moving Castle and Nausicaa. I liked Spirited Away, but it couldn't top those three, and neither could Castle in the Sky, even though it was also very moving. Haven't seen My Neighbor Totoro yet, or Kiki's Delivery Service.
|
The first of his films that I saw was Howl's Moving Castle and I think that it's my favorite as well.
Then I've seen My neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, nausicaa, Whisper of the Heart.....and I think that's it, but I'm not sure. I've liked everything I've seen by him. :3 |
Actually The Cat Returns was directed by Hiroyuki Morita, but it was also a Studio Ghibli film and I agree, it was good.
Anyway, as for Miyazaki films, I've seen a few, I really enjoyed Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle. My neighbor Totoro and Kiki's delivery Service was cute and Laputa in the Sky was interesting, I guess so far out of the ones I've seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind or whatever it was called was one that I didn't enjoy as much, I dunno, I found it was a bit too serious. |
I love Howl's Moving Castle. It's adorable. I love the plot and the fire creature.
|
i absolutely LOVE Spirited Away!! that the best one. of course, i also love princess mononoke and howls moving castle.
|
I love Spirited Away. It is a great movie. My little sister has watched it 500 times and still watches it. Even my mom loves it. Because of that movie she now will watch other anime with me.

Miyazaki has really done an outstanding job in the film industry of Japanese anime.

Miyasaki and his anime movies
I simply believe that Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and other animated films done by Hayo Miyasaki (think I spelled the name kind of right) are some of the best in existence, and they will remain classics to me and utmost favorites of mine until the day I die! The animations are gorgeous, the stories are cute and wonderful, the music is great. I really love them and own almost all of them.
I simply love watching the movies time and time again, there's always something there that I keep wanting to see. Solid storylines and Miyasaki is a great person. I watch the special features and such and he's really cool. Apparently if he describes a scene to someone doing some animating, and the guy gets it wrong, he describes it again, and if the guy still gets it wrong, rather than Miyasaki getting mad at him he does it himself because he thinks that he just didn't describe the scene well enough. That's a great guy. He keeps saying he'll retire...but he won't. He's an amazing maker of anime movies. Such talent and everything! Disney even did a wonderful job dubbing over them in my opinion. I never knew Mark Hammil (spelled his last name wrong I think) could be a good voice actor, but he really is! So what is your favorite Miyasaki film and why? I'm sure I'm not the only Miyasaki fan out there! |
It's actually Hayao Miyazaki. And I'm not sure which would be my favorite movie he's done. Maybe Princess Mononoke. I think Spirited Away is pretty great too though.
|
Princess Mononoke is a wicked awesome movie that I love to death. Finally got it on DVD too so I can watch it now on my computer.
Though I really like Howl's Moving Castle, and saw a while back Whisper of the Heart. He makes some of the cutest movies! He really does. And thanks for the spelling correction. I'm bad with spelling names at times, and Japanese names are particularly troublesome. |
Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Princess Mononoke.
|
I like How's Moving Castle and Kiki's Delivery Service the best.
Kiki's Delivery Service was the first one I saw, I love how charming it is. Howl's Moving Castle I only saw recently, but it's my favorite. I'm not too sure why I love it so much, the characters all have their quirks and they blend together so well. I like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke too, but not as much. I haven't seen his other films, I'm behind on those. =D |
I agree! I love Miyazaki's films as well. I liked Howls Moving Castle. It was so cute and so funny. That dude Howl has serious issues. I wanted to see Princess Mononoke but i missed it when it played cuz i went sleep at my friend's house and she didn't want to watch it. She's not as into anime and such like i am. Which is why we aren't very close. Cuz all i wanna talk about is anime/manga and all she wants to talk about is My Chemical Romance and other music.
:headdesk: |
Hayao Miyazaki is full of awesomesauce. <3 Let's see... The first movie I ever saw of his was Kiki's Delivery Service and I just thought it was charming and adorable. <3 Then I saw Spirited Away and I thought it was a nice movie as well, for it's one of the only anime movies that has made me cry so far. But my most favorite film by him, believe it or not, is Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. It just had me giggling from beginning to end. <3 |
Miyazaki?
Who likes or has seen any of Miyazaki's movies?
he is definitely one of my favorite writers/ directors. |
I've seen several of his movies. Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Totoro (at least I think Totoro is one of his...), and Nausica. I liked pretty much all of them. (^_^) A new movie by his son is supposed to be coming out/has come out, isn't it?
|
I've seen a lot of them.. with the exception of two of the older ones. & I love them all. :3 My favorites are the newest three though.. Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away, and Howl's Moving Castle. Mononoke has always been my favorite though. ^-^ |
Miyazaki has got to be one of my favorite directors. His stories are so magical and at the same time very complex, so you can watch them all the time and still wonder about them.
I'm not sure which one my favorite is, it would have to be a tie between Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. His son's movie came out in Japan in 2006, but hasn't been released in America yet due to some sort of legal problem. I think it was something like, it was based off the Earthsea books, and some company in America had rights to the Earthsea franchise for so-and-so years because they made a TV movie. So until their rights expire, it can't come out in America. Miyazaki's knew film Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea just came out in Japan a few months ago. Trailers are available on Youtube but I'm not sure when it's going to come out in America. |
Spirited Away is awesome! ^^
I also like Howl's Moving Castle very much. |
What (in your opinion) is the best Hayao Miyazaki movie?
I know it really isn't considered contemporary anime, but I really enjoy his films.
I have seen: Spirited Away Totoro Castle in the Sky Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Grave of the Fireflies Whisper of the Heart (produced by Miyazaki) The Cat Returns Howl's Moving Castle Princess Mononoke and probably a few others of whose names I cannot remember at the moment. My favorites were Whisper of the Heart (I give it 5 stars), The Cat Returns (5 stars), Spirited Away (5 stars), and Howl's Moving Castle (4.5 stars). What are your guys' favorites? |
