Alrighty, I haven't seen a thread on this yet and we need one. I'm a huge Negima! fan. I have all the released manga, and have read and reread them to shreds. I haven't had a chance yet to watch any of the anime (well, that's not true, I've seen the first four episodes of the first series) but I'm working on that.

Some things to discuss:

For Me:
Do you like Negima!? If not, why? Well, yes. Wouldn't it be a little ridiculous for me to start a thread on a manga/anime I disliked?

Have you read the Manga? All 13 books, I can't wait for book 14!!!

Have you seen the Anime(s)? Only the first four episodes of the first one. I hear the second is much better, and well, I hope that's true.

Which did you like better? Manga, by far. The anime was just ... silly. Which was unnecessary.

Who is your favorite character? Setsuna! And Yue is a close second.

What's your favorite manga arc? I loooooved the trip to Kyoto. Especially in the village where they were dressing up. I want to do that someday. I also think the fights were best. I loved it when everyone randomly pulled fighting skills out of no where.

I actually didn't like Love Hina, so I was very surprised I liked Negima! so much...

I love Mana and Kaede, too. They don't get nearly enough time in the spotlight.

Personally, I found Love Hina to be lacking any form of progressive subplots. And the main plot didn't really move foreword until something like book 7. If you like embarrassing the same character over and over again, then it's great. But if you want more than that... it's kinda lacking.

Well, I've only seen one episode of the Negima! anime. I think it's totally cute, though. I like the blonde-[straight] haired chick. (Sorry! I can't remember her name! ^^;; )

Do you like Negima!? If not, why?
I enjoy the manga and the ongoing plot, but Akumatsu
[sic] was being far too ambitious with the amount of characters he's using :/. The ones he develops are well-rounded, but the others end-up being one-shot characters with one personality trait apiece and are easily confused with one another. His pacing and layouts have greatly improved since Love Hina! though.

I have the first volume and watched the first episode, but no more since then. I'm waiting to see how much I like it before I collect the others, since some stores just don't lend to anime. I DID have my series box signed by Greg Ayres (the American voice for Negi; my girlfriend hugged him. He's such a sweethearted goof xD) though, so I'll at least keep that.

Which did you like better?
The manga. From what I've seen of the anime, the voices aren't great, but not horrible. A little phoned in. The character designs have some bad color schemes (why give Asuna the bi-colored Yuna eyes? Why make everyone's hair color look lke Skittles flavors?), plus from what I've read, they kill off a major character because they didn't know how to end the series.

Who is your favorite character?

Pretty much all the charactershe's developed, but there's so much going on that it's hard for me to keep track of them all. I like Negi, of course, and Asuka ...er, Asuna. I liked Shinobu ... er .. Nodaka, but then she just went into the background. I liked Makie (before she was the breakout cute character). I like Evangeline and I hope her story doesn't come to an anti-climax. Other than that, I like ... uh ... wolf-kid (Negi's rival. I can never remember his name) and I think that's really about it. Everyone else kid of just floats in and out as needed.


What's your favorite manga arc?
I'm enjoying the school festival tournement, but I think the arc where Evangeline went from being an enemy to a begrudged friend was my favorite. Plus, I'll admit, I'm a sucker for fan service. *Phoenix Wright sweaty face*

I didn't like the character changes, either. The Yuna eyes really drove me nuts. Asuna already has so many quirks, why give her more?

Yeah! I was at the library looking for mangas.. then found it..I said hmm this might be interesting so I read it. And it's soo interesting!!! My favorite character proabably is...Sakurako Shiina. I like her because she is a cheerleader!!! And I love being a cheerleader!

There are two. I only have watched Maho Sensei! Negima. That's the more commonly seen one done by the creator of Love Hina xD if you couldn't tell, roflmao.
The ending..I was pissed when I thought the ep Asuke died was the ending DX

i like it cause i think it a pretty funny anime, it revol around magic which is the thing that i like best.

yes, it was funny though at the end it kind of confusing on how everyone go back in time then at the present they all still remenber what happen and stuff. i think negi-sensei dad didn't die, well at least that what i hope but oh well.

This sereis rocks!!! i borrowed the first three or four from a friend and got hooked!
Wish I had the money to buy them for myself.

I've read the first two volume, it's cute. =33 When I have time, I'll read another.

big duh i like the Manga of Negima better than both anime adaptations.

i didnt think i would like it. but i am hooked.
i was going to get the 16th volume today, but i was a week early ;_; GAH!
it dragged a bit. but it was good.

Asuna's big sister mentality for Negi is great.
the use of combat is neat. its something i wouldnt have thought of in that manner.

Ken can go overboard with the pantie shots. especially when you can tell there is just a filler page.
but when he is on point its exciting. lol i hate getting tired and having to take a nap between reading because i want to read it in one sitting.

Asuna's eyes are "Heterochromia". in terms "bi-colored eyes". Xebec was just trying to make it more obvious by turning her one eye Green. when in the manga they are both blue and one is just lighter then the other. Shaft didnt even bother with that.

they are still young girls themselves. and none like Negi in a sexual manner. though they do go overboard with the teasing.

I agree. They tease, but you can't see them as paedophiles when they're mostly 4 years older than him :)

Hmm...Partially true, but she is only interested in the father, not the son. She was "turned" when she was 10 (hence her diminutive look), but her mind continued maturing - she's essentially a woman trapped in the body of a child. So I don't blame her for using an illusion prior to her being cursed by Nagi Springfield, "The Thousand-Master" :)

And about the DVDs - that series was fun, but not canon, as Ken Akamatsu only gave permission for the animators to use his characters - he didn't work on it. Same for the remake, "Negima!?" (No, it is NOT a "second season", but a remake! Diff animators and author). If you need to follow the storyline, I recommend the manga ,which is intended for 16 and older, really.

Negima!? maybe a spin off...but its just bad one.
some people say it gave the characters personality.
but from my view. half of them were dumb.

especially Asuna, who has a Big Sister demeanor and a lot of Determination. went to a kook chasing after a stupid bean shaped creature (chuppa)..she isn't may favorite character, but i like her personality...way above Naru(love hina). Asuna actually works and cares about others besides herself.

i felt a lot of the characters just went OOC.
i know. i should look at it as "its just their image being used" but you cant help compare Negima!? to their manga selves. it just failed to even capture the story.

I kept an open mind about "Negima!?", since a different author was involved, doing it with Akamatsu's permission. The series is based on "Negima NEO", a manga series which is kind of a remake in itself.

The live action, though...AWFUL!! The actors look nothing like the characters, and Chamo is very badly done. I foresee this one becoming a real turkey.
