Heck yes! Ever since I knew what anime actually was *as a kid didn't know Sailor Moon was anime. ><;* I wanted to learn. I even bought books and discs to help me learn. I feel that if you enter a foreign country you should know enough about the language to get around. ><; At one point I'd love to go to Japan and visit places that are similar to what I've seen in anime. I love the art style but the culture is very rich and interesting too. I love the customs and fashion they have and shrines and their beliefs are really interesting as well. Pretty much anime has opened my eyes to wanting to see Japan and understand a joke when I see or read it in anime/manga. So that's a definite yes <3

For me, manga/anime was an introduction into the Japanese Culture. As I started to watch more Japanese subbed Anime and read more about the Japanese culture I began to love it.
Though I am not a Japanese, [I'm Filipino] I can't extract my love for the unique culture. Especially, I love the style of art and cartoons of Japan. I'm currently learning/drawing anime characters that I love. XD |
Not really. I'll learn the basics of the Japanese language, usually the words which pretty much everyone knows. But aside from that, if something did encourage me to learn Japanese, it would be Role Playing. Not the anime itself.
|
I got introduced to the language by watching anime and since then I have a great fascination for it.
Not just because I want to understand the anime I watch, but also because the language is interesting and way different from the one we speak here (Dutch). It's funny to say you know a couple of Japanese words, and the others are like: "Really?" ^______^ And now I wish to study the Japanese laguage and culture. |
I started learning Japanese because I wanted to read and watch anime/manga without subs. Though I had to stop D;
|
I would love to be able to learn Japanese not only to be able to read the manga in it's original language, but also to be able to watch anime in Japanese and not have to worry about reading the subtitles. And another reason is because I listen to Gackt and Dir en Grey, and I'd love to be able to understand them.
|
Ive ALways wanted to learn how to read, write and talk japanese even before i started to watch anime and read manga. I wouldent mind being a bilingual singer. I love singing and i love the whole world with all the differnt lang.
|
Yes, it does, especially if you are into fansubs as I am. They often contain interesting and educational cultural references, which allows you to understand the Japanese better. You also find yourself liking the language so much that you try to go and study it, or at the very least get taught by someone who speaks it fluently.
|
Here another victim of anime/manga, I also would love to learn Japanese!, the language is very interesting even if i dont understand a word, but i rock! I also would like to visit Japan, some goal that have to wait T_T, I wonder how hard will it be for me to learn to speak/read/write Japanese? Hmm, The world may never know...
|
Heck yeah
I wanna learn Japanese that would be cool! Then I could watch and read more anime and manga!!! so Yeah it does encourage me to want to learn it!
|
i guess it does encourage people to learn japanese because i sure as heack wanna learn more japanese. ((people say i sound like japanese naruto.... :? ))
|
I must agree with the one who said this:

Manga/Anime got me started. In fact, all of my volumes are in Japanese. I'm working on near-total immersion, so they're mostly all I read. (So why am I posting on an English site? XD)
|
I've tried to learn a little but I haven't tried really seriously.
|
Actually, the initial reason I decided to learn Japanese was because I loved the language itself (which I knew because I've been listening to J-pop and J-rock for such a long time xD Which was actually probably inspired by anime, so maybe :3 ) -- I don't know enough kanji yet to read a manga xD (I've been collecting Japanese magazines so one day I can read them :3 ) But it is a definite perk <3 I want to go to Japan and buy tons of authentic manga xD
Korean would be a cool language to learn, now that you mention it :3 Since it's becoming so prominent in the comic world and all xD But I have my heart set on Mandarin or Cantonese next :3 Which would be equally awesome, because then I can figure out how to get my hands on the Blue Bird video game from China (that was shot down by FMA lawyers or whatever for copyright infringement xD ) xD I really want that game xD It's too bad they were forced to stop making it :3 LOL XD It's a shame somebody didn't translate it and hoard it away before that could happen xDDD *sends love to FMA lawyers* >.> ^_^ |
I would like very much to be able to speak and read japanese.
Mainly because of the manga and anime aspect but also because the language is amazing. I have friends that are taking a japanese class in school, where they learn the language so theyre teaching me, so far i know simple things like Dakishimetakunai= I dont wanna hold on you anata ga daisuki = I love you (used mostly by teenagers) Demu = but Kawaii desu ni = cute, isnt it? So yah japanese is an awesome language and worth learning. i wanna visit tokyo mainly because of Tokyopop and because my art work is on display in the tokyo gallery of anime and manga :o Another language i really would like to learn is spanish as i am half spanish, i know a few simple phrases Lo que es usted haciendo = what are you doing ? Te quiero mucho por toda la eternidad = i love you lots for an eternity abraza y besa apasionademente = hugs and kisses passionately Que tengas un buen dia = have a nice day nos vemos pronto = see you soon como esta usted = how are you y tu= and you I think language in general is definately amazing at the moment i can speak spanish, japanese (little bits), Dutch, Portuguese, french, Icelandic, filipino. But none fluently and some only one word lmao |
I was interested in learning Japanese before I got into anime and manga, but I find them helpful in learning Japanese. The Japanese in them isn't always the kind of Japanese you'd be wanting to use if you went to Japan (some things like verb tense and personal pronouns could be very rude out of context), but it is helpful for general listening and speaking skills. Japanese voice tracks on anime are particularly easy to access, so they are a great tool. It is also great for picking up more insights into Japanese culture.

It has definitely inspired me to learn japanese.
In school I am constantly saying Japanese stuff to my friends. |
I would like to speak and understand Japanese but I think learning to read and write in Japanese is a bit too far for me
|
I tried to learn some Japanese several years ago, but gave up due to the complexity of Kanji. I couldn't even write one simple word correctly. However, I did pick up several words from this, and I probably know more Japanese than most fans do. ^^;
|
In the beginning, I decided to learn Japanese because of anime and manga. However, I've learned to enjoy the language and learn it simply because I want to understand it.

Unfortunatly I'm only fluent in English for now. I'm learning Spanish in school right now. And I"m learning Japanese from all of the anime that I watch. I know some other things.... (in japanese) Like... 2 other ways to say 'I love you.': 1) aishteru 2) skidio And... What's the matter?: Doshdonoquni? Let's go hone: kaidemasho Good morning: Ohiogozaimasu Good night: Oyasuminasai What happened:donodonayo? I let my guard down: itashida. Anyways... those are just a few. I have a lot more, in case you want me to tell you more... I'd be happy to!!! ^^ I learn most of these from Naruto by the way ^^ I write most of the things that I learn down... That way I can study them later. Anyways... again.. If you do want me 2 tell you more. U just have to say so. ^^ But I think that it's cool that you know bits and pieces of the same languages that I do. Oh yah... And it's so cool that you're part Spanish!!! |
No, not really as I get the manga books in English. Of course I pick up a few words but not that many. Death Note is my favourite set of Japanese books. :D

I have to say that it's sort of an influence. I learned 'baka' in fifth grade, by chance, because the answers to a test were 'B. A. C. A.' in that order, and my teacher told us about it. Then, I sort of wanted to learn more about the language, but being in fifth grade, I didn't really do anything about it.
Later, around sixth or seventh grade, my friend got me more interested in learning the language, that long with anime and manga. Now in ninth grade, I haven't really excelled, I just know some katakana, and more hiragana then before...-nervous laugh-. Manga really does help you learn to read the language though. I have around five mangas in Japanese because they were only three dollars at the store, they help me learn hiragana, and if I tried hard enough, maybe they'd teach me some kanji -laughs-. The language really is lovely to the ear, though I think Swedish and Dutch are a bit more ...nice(if that's the right word) sounding. My friend has slightly mastered Japanese, moved on the Korean, Chinese, Hebrew, and French -laughs- I'm hoping to at least learn half as many languages as her. I'm trying to get her to teach me kanji too ^w^ |
Yes! The answer is definitely yes.
I'd like to learn as much language as I could, anyway.. But the first two of my list are French and Japanese.. I'd really like to learn Japanese..!! And yes, it's all because of anime.. |
