Has anyone here ever read Paradise Kiss by Ai Yazawa? It's a bit of an old manga but it's still a classic. Well if you are intrested in fashion, art, model, romance, shojo, and love I recommend it for you. It's a very good story and I have always adored it. So if you ever read it please put your input here! ^_^

The anime is great too! I recommend it to everyone too. The music is just absolutely great. I love it.

Well here's a summary of the story if you want to know more about it:
"Yukari Hayasaka lives the typical life of a Japanese high school senior. She is constantly under the stress of her mother, Tomoko, who desperately wants her to succeed as a student. Walking the streets, Yukari is accosted by Arashi Nagase who tells her she has the perfect look. Shocked by his bizarre appearance and uncomprehending of his intentions, Yukari tries to escape, but bumps into Isabella, is "captured" by her, faints, and is brought to the Paradise Kiss atelier.

Soon after, she meets their eccentric leader/designer, George, who under the guise of returning the ID book, introduces Yukari to the world of fashion, to the world of Paradise Kiss. Drawn by the allure of Paradise Kiss members' determination and George's charisma, Yukari is quickly swept off her feet and into the cut-throat world of fashion and romance."

  • *gasp* How is this series old?

    I've seen the anime and read the manga. I started reading it in TokyoPop's SMILE magazine and finished by getting the rest of the volumes on my own. I obviously enjoyed it since I usually don't bother with shoujo series. XD I'm a little partial to it because it involves FASHION! Little strange tastes of fashion to me, but still FASHION nevertheless. XD

    The story was pretty good...although I can't help but admit a little disappointment in who she paired up with in the end. ^^;

i love this series and absolutely love aizawas arte <333
the fashion business got me totally interested and the play was great. i loved george's character eventhough he was cruel in some parts.
i agree that the ending was a bit dissapointing. i wished she and george would get together nevertheless where they were. i'll take george then, caroline's loss :9

I adored that series. After reading it I wanted to get my nose pierced and hook a chain from it to my ear. Then I realized that I'd probably get it caught on something and hurt myself.
Now that I think about I never did read the last book. *gonk*

What was the crossdresser's name by the way? I can't seem to recall it. Been a few years since I read Paradise Kiss. He was my fav character though.

I just got into the manga, haven't watched the anime yet though. I just finished reading the second volume, so far I love it. I love Yazawa-sensei's work with Nana, and I just wanted to read ParaKiss. :)

(oh wow! This thread is still alive. xD.)

@xDark_secretsx: Yah, the series gets way better. (although you may be disappointed at the end. I was, however I actually liked it that way.) I though Paradise Kiss was way better than Nana for the single fact that it was shorter than Nana. Nana seems to last too long. xD. Seventeen Volumes and it's still going. lol.

@Nana0o: It was my first Older Teen (16+) manga. It is by far my most favorite of all mangas. I could never have wished for a more romantic love story ever.

I love her art style. And she does such great romances. I also am glad it is indeed shorter than the nana, nana seemed to drag a bit even with her amazing romance writing skills.

@Takuto; I think I revived it. xD We're different, I like when it's longer... but that's just me. :D I'm liking it so far and I'm hoping to get the rest of the volumes soon. :) After I finish the manga I'll look for the anime on youtube. xD

ParaKiss! x33 I'm lovin' it. Ai Yazawa has always been one of my favorites, and so when Paradise Kiss came out, of course I had to read it!

I really love Yazawa's storylines and art; they're gorgeous.

D: I haven't seen the anime yet, though.

I loved reading Paradise Kiss- it's one of the few manga I've ever read that was completely unpredictable, right to the end. Which is one of the main reasons I loved it. :). I also really enjoyed the artwork, characters, relationships, and the fashions. :)

This is one anime that had an incredable plot. It was both interesting and lovely.
I think I'd even prefer ParaKiss to Nana.

Hm....I'm not sure which one I'd prefer more; Paradise Kiss or Nana, seeing as how I still haven't finished either. >.>;; Sorry. Busy reading Trinity Blood. xD;;
