At the high school I go to, we have an anime club. My friends are all officers, too. However, I find it boring. All we do is watch anime.

One of my close friends, who goes to another school, told me about her anime club yesterday. It seems like they have a lot of fun, with events ranging from StepMania with J-pop/J-rock songs to random anime-style duck-duck-goose games. They're even raising money for the whole club to go to Katsucon, a convention in Virginia in February.

I think our anime club needs to be active, but I'm lost on how to do so. So, I'm wondering... what do you guys do at your anime club? Are you President, VP or an officer?

I'm also interested in establishing connections between anime clubs around the country... sort of like an expansion thing or an Otaku union, you know?

Questions:

- Does your school have an anime club?
- Are you on it?
- What do you do?
- Are you interested in an alliance between anime clubs?

I don't think my highschool knew what anime was....

Ways to get active...arrange a cosplay competition. They pay a dollar to enter dress up as their favourite character and the winner gets a prize. That's always a good way to start things. It's different and they can do something. Then just work on it.

Yeah, we're planning on one for Halloween, where it's actually normal to dress up. Only, I have no idea what the prize can be, though. Do you think a gift card to a book store would work? Heh.

We're also thinking about other contests... like art contests and caption contests. But these things can't go on for every single week that anime club meets, so I need to think of some other ideas. ._.;;;

I was thinking either we make a manga as a group, or we do some kind of art-related thing. However, I realized not everyone can draw... and not everyone would be willing to participate. ._.

While I was in high school (I finished last June) I ran the anime club at our school for 3 years. We watched anime a lot, since that's what people usually wanted to do. We had random quizzes with some fun prizes, such as pins, pocky and random Japanese candy that I had picked up on my trips to Toronto. I held a few random competitions and game days with Dance Dance Revolution, different days had different versions of the game, then as well as Karaoke Revolution, which wasn't used as much since most of the club can't sing.

We had sing-a-long days, AMV days and days that I had brought in some JRock dvds. Though, the members of my club still preferred watching Anime and such, which I guess was fine. It was hard pleasing everyone. I couldn't bring in my ps2 a lot since I live so far from the school.

One thing we always wanted to do was have the whole club go out for sushi and other Japanese food. Though, we only ever managed to get half the club to go.

Oh, we also had con meet-ups and cosplay days. I'm still in connection with the school's anime club, though, I had to pass the powers on to the new leader I selected. I couldn't stay an extra year in high school. Oh well, I hope the college I'm going to be going to has one.

The random anime quizzes sound fun. How did that work, though? Was it just like... you ask a question, and whoever answered it first gets a prize? I'll take note of it for our club. ^^;

We only have an anime club in high-school, and since I'm not in it yet, I have no idea what they do. xD Seeing as my school is -huge-, I'll bet they do more than watch anime. :3

I have a huge school, too. Apparantly, there were 70 people who signed up for anime club on the roster list. However, only around 20 people come every single week. x_x;;;

I hope you do join anime club! :D

x3 I shall~

That's disappointing. ._.;; If all we do is watch anime though, I'll just introduce the group to a few of my faves, make some friends, and leave, unless like, I can only see certain people in the club. No offense to whoever is holding it, but I'm not taking the late bus just to watch anime. >->;;

Wow, I guess that's the mindset of the rest of the 50 people that don't come to anime club. Why waste the time to show up if it's pointless?

But then, there isn't much else we can do at the club except contests. =\

XD Exactly~

See, if there were contests, I'd go everyday. But to just sit and watch TV for half an hour? I have better things to do, and better ways to do it, than that.

I'm not in school, so I suppose the answer is 'no', for me. I did used to ride with my friends to a college that had an anime club. We'd go once a week. It was a 30-40 minute drive there, and 30-40 minutes home. I ended up quitting because I didn't feel like it was worth all the effort... Especially since the majority of the club members were socially challenged... Talking to them was almost painful. They were the sort of anime fans that give other anime fans bad reputations ^.^; The ones who like to live as though they are anime characters and the world is one big anime. And no matter what you try to talk to them about it will inevitably be forced back to some random anime episode where some random anime character had a vaguely similar situation x.x; I couldn't take it ^.^; So I left.

We actually had printed out quizzes. Generally they were all about stuff we had watched in the club and such. We gave out prizes to the people who got the most correct. People loved them, so I'd say they were a decent success.

...I think it'd be too much of a waste to print out everything. What I might do is have 10 questions, and whoever answers a question first gets Pocky thrown at them. ^^

So far, I haven't herd of any anime club at my school. I'd probably join if there was though.

No, but I wish my school had an anime club.
We have one at the library that meets the last Thursday of each month.

My anime club at school is starting this week. It's been a year since it ran, but we used to bring snacks, discuss what the officers were wearing (they always came dressed as a different anime character) and watch anime the entire time. I think we were halfway through Bleach when the old advisor moved away. I don't know the name of the new one... but I'm willing to bet he's not as cool as J.D., who was like the GOD of anime club runningness. He didn't make us watch dubs, which I shall bet you now are all we're going to watch in the new anime club. He bought the actual dvds straight out of Japan...

I wonder what we're gonna start with this year? I hope Death Note.

The closest thing we have to an anime club is our "Pop Culture" club. I wanted to join it at first, but meetings didn't do well with my schedule.

Then I began to hate the club with a bloody passion when I found out it was filled with many, many "Narutards"
(and art club owns anyways. x])

Hehe, ya. Thats what the anime club at my old high school was like (Both of them). Just watch anime and have a manga library (Although I don't recommend having a library cause some people actually steal them and like in my Chobits manga, they drew some bad pics in them so I just tossed it out cause I was scarred for life.)

Fundraisers are also a fun thing to do, have like a bake sale or something, to raise money to go to the Anime Convention or something like that.

Other things you can do when your watching anime is discuss the themes. At my high school, they made it mandatory to have some type of 'learning' from watching anime. So you can discuss like what was going on during the time in the anime, and such type of stuff.

When I was up at W.S.U. there was an anime club and the University of Cincinnati has one but I go to Cincinnati State and we don't. The closest thing we've got is a table top gamers club. Most of the members of the gamers club also watch anime. I'd like to see us get one but it's a smaller college and they're only really starting to get clubs organized. I know at one point someone tried to start and anime club and there was a lot of influence on the council from the Christian club and they felt that Anime was inappropriate. (Even though our school has no catholic affiliations and the idea that anime is inappropriate is really stupid. :roll: ) Hopefully someone else gives it a try again in the future.

Yeah, my school has an anime club. Am I on it? No. Why? Because the anime club is too nerdy for it's own good. :lol: But seriously, they're too into the bad dubbed anime rather than the good kind. However, the otaku of the club are EXTREMELY dedicated. One of them walk around in a Orichimaru (sp?) cloak from Naruto.

There is no anime club in our school.
The main reason is that anime and manga are not popular in our country. There is only one anime club in our town, that I'm in.
Our goal is to bring anime and manga in mass and to make it popular among the people, so there would be some more anime stuff in stores xD

And of curse there exists alliance between our towns club and clubs, that exists in other towns of my country

argghhh school clubs. I am an officer in the club at my school. We do a lot of fund raising and watch anime and stuff. It's fun but our school is very 'sport' oriented. They rip down our posters and refuse to let us do fundraisers. I hate my school so much. Our club is being discriminated against for liking anime and manga. Technically I believe we have the right to sue the school but we wont. We are in our seconed year. our first year we saved up a lot of money to go to a convention, we had everything all set up to go and everyone was so excited. 2 weeks before school ended the principle came to the club advisor and said we have to go before the board of review and get 'permission' to go. The flat out said "no". after we did all that fundraising! we went anyway, no way they were stoping us after all the work it took us to go. Anime cluns are fun but some schools just reject them..

That sounds like something our school would be because our school is totally overpopulated with Jocks and Preps. The High school currently has a Manga/Anime club but the Junior High I go to doesn't have one at all. I'm trying to get one started but I'm afraid none of the teachers will support us and no one with come to the meetings. I also don't want to be the leader of the club either. I hate being the leader, really.
