I've found that there are 2 different kinds of anime fans (with some variations here and there). There are the people that only watch new age anime, often sacrificing wuality story for the latest graphics. And then there are the old school anime fans who will sacrifice a bit of graphics for story.

So, what do you think. Is story being sacrificed as graphics continue to improve and evolve in the anime industry? Do you prefer modern or old anime? What is more important for you, art or story?

What anime series are examples of what you prefer in an anime?

Sometimes I watch old anime series.. like Kare Kano, Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi no Ceres, ect.. I know those aren't super old, so that's probably why I watch them. xD; In my opinion, both stories and art are important... but I don't think I'd be interested in an anime if only the story was good.. and it'd be bad if only the art was nice, but the story was horrible.. xDD It really depends, but if I had to choose between new or old anime, I would say new ones are better. ^^ [but again, stories are important too <3]

I go for stories then the graphics. Also I was kinda raised on some of the older animes that and my mom has this thing of getting older ones and new ones.

I like old and new anime. Sailor moon, DBZ.. Then when it comes to manga, I like many things that are old. I like to have a nice story, and characters to be decent. Which is why I don't like the oh so many plots that keep repeating themselves with a little bit of differences...

Like Gundam..Did they really have to keep making it over and over again? Some of the series are good though. I don't mind graphics being sacrificed. A lot of new things can be boring because the plot is so plain and repetitive. New ones that I like are Bleach(Is that really new?), .hack, some other things I watch but never know the title of XD

I suppose if I had to make a choice between which one would I rather be watching right now. I'd pick the older style anime. It's kind of like asking me if I'd rather watch the old Star Wars or the new one. o_o; Definitely the older one. XD

The FIRST anime I ever watched was 'Unico'. There were two of them that I had, my mom had taped them for me off of some sort of station. XD Look it up, it's horribly cute. Anyway, it's by the same person that made AstroBoy.

I also like Captain Tylor (or The Irresponsible Captain Tylor.) and Nadia Secret of Blue water. Both of those are older style anime. I like Ranma, Lum/Ursei Yatsura (Lum and Ranma were both made by the same person that made Inu Yasha) , Sailor Moon, Pet Shop of Horrors. I'm sure there's more that I like as well.

That isn't to say that there's not some nice new anime that people have made with good stories. I like Hellsing and Ouran Host Club. Those are both pretty new comparatively.

I love something with a good story. :3

What have you been watching that makes you think older series are boring? Basically I would like examples.

Personally, though I know you didn't ask me at all, I love the story lines in older anime. I think they're really good. o_o' I know that if I gave some of the newer anime a chance it might have some good story lines as well... Though I haven't felt much like watching anime for a while. o_o; The last time I watched a lot of anime was when I was watching Ouran Host Club. X3

Which series are you talking about? A lot of newer series that are good are just older series being ripped off in an alternate world. Naruto? Dragon Ball Z with Ninja's. There are so many old series/movies that are 10x better than anything that's come out in the last 5-10 years. check them out

Bubblegum Crisis
Maison Ikkoku
Gundam
Macross
Akira
Ah my Goddess
Battle Angel Alita
Blade of the Immortal

And that's just beginning.

I try to find good graphics and a good plot, though it's pretty hard to. xDD I mostly watch the new animes, though I still do watch old school anime. Kodocha, jugding the the graphics it's pretty old, and is one of my favourite anime.

I'd much rather a good story than pretty grafics. I mean, I grew up on anime adapatations of classical literature! And damn would I like to rewatch of my childhood's anime. ;__;

Oh DVD releases of Robin Hood no DaibŨken, Tom Sawyer no Boken, Trapp Ikka Monogatari, and Ai no Wakakusa Monogatari, where art thou? :(

I don't have any preference to what the anime looks like- I do like LOOKING at newer anime more, but I've noticed that most older anime titles are much better than newer works. Some of the best titles have dated art, and unfortunately, no one watches them because of this. Maison Ikkoku is the best love story I've ever seen in an anime, and is one of the few that has a beginning, a middle, and an end. And unfortunately, not too many people watch this title because the art's dated. :(. They have no clue what they're missing. And those who compare it to Love Hina are sorely mistaken- comparing the drivel known as Love Hina, to a masterpiece like Maison Ikkoku, is like comparing night and day. And yet, I've seen people compare the two, myself included until I read enough to know better.
More good series that probably are looked over are Record of Lodoss War, and the Slayers. Those anime have better plots than ninety eight percent of any new fantasy title does. And Slayers is funnier than most new series that are made.
As for newer anime, it DOES have its perks. The stories are more modern, and the art is better to look at. But in terms of plot, older anime tend to be better.

Oh i agree, there are a lot of new and old series that i like. Maison Ikkoku is one of my favorites. Love Hina was entertaining, as i got into it when i was 13, which is partially what it's aimed towards.

I wouldn't say the art is dated, though, with older anime. Look at Venus Wars, the animation is 10x better than a lot of what i've seen today XD
