Oops, I posted this in the Media forum by accident. Lucky I caught the mistake before a mod did! :O

Anyway, lately I've been feeling frustrated with really long anime. I love to just get into something, but it seems like with a long series huge amounts of episodes are dedicated to the characters standing while the wind ruffles their hair and clothes. I've been watching Naruto for five years now, and I've lost the love because of this. Bleach can be just as bad in my opinion.

I know that not all anime can be like that though, and it makes it more frustrating. For example I just finished watching Princess Tutu, and I thought it was excellently paced.

I also hate it when they use 3 to 5 minutes of the show to sum up the last episode in flash backs. *sigh*

Is anyone else feeling the same as myself?

Not really. I just skipped over the 200 filler episodes in Naruto, because they were pointless.

And i also watch a lot of anime that isn't extremely popular. I've found that a lot of good stuff is either "out dated" or just doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

I skipped the fillers as well, they were painful. And, I totally agree with you on the second point!

I find that alot of Animes have like really long 'theme' songs. Like Hack.//sign.

The one series that I don't like which took a long time to kill the bad guy is none other then DBZ.

I also hate how it goes in flash back!
but it does tell you more about what they are trying to do!
Like Sasuka he is trying to get revenge on his brother, well it goes in flash back, to show you why he is getting revenge!
But I agree they do have to many flash backs!
I watch Death note, Blood plus, & more.
But I think that Death note is pretty good. It doesn't really have flash backs, & it builds tention!
Well thats what I think! ^^"

I was glad that DN Angel only had 26 episodes, it's awesome, infact I'm downloading them all.

@Wynna: No kidding! I hate it when I skip the opening, and then see the time left media player. I feel cheated. XD

@katyasha: Oh man, DBZ. Why did it take them so long to power up? And the bad guy would just stand there! While Goku is busy screaming whoever he is fighting should just shoot him in the head or something! XD

@LemonLime: The Sasuke flashback was very useful the first time they showed it, but after that...it was less then necessary to show it the many times that they did. The fans aren't goldfish!

@Arc: As far as time wasted on standing dramatically, and flashback DN Angel wasn't the worst offender. XD But then again they had to do something to counteract Risa. Oh man, I just wont go into that...

.hack theme obsession actually isn't that long, just it doesn't seem to change rhythem so it seems longer. I also think the opening flashback previous episode from the start on, is insane, and I half the time just skip through all the opening and the flashback so I cut out a lot of time on every series.

Naruto filler episodes I just would skip them or the episodes that have no plot advancement..
DBZ was horrible is the 5 minutes before planet explodes.. 20 episodes later, It blows up. Ahh, the freeza sega, and buu sega. it never seemed to end..

And ZOMG, flashbacks... naruto's flashback is basically 10 minutes of the episode, which if they want to know what happened all the watcher has to do was watch an earlier episode to get what happened..
.
I usually stick with animes with short episodes.
like 51 episodes max.
Full Metal Alchemist, Ouran high school and Lovely Complex are really good.

I love this series though, but D.Gray-Man on the other hand though.. the manga is good but the anime is at episode 68 and it has had about 12 filler episodes which made me want to cry D=

There is no need of filler. Or stick a character in the anime and give them 5 filler when the manga has only caught a glimpse of her.. ahh lulubell. And when this so called character entered the manga, the character was a bit different.. and stuck with the stupid name of lulubell

I don't like the longer series because there is so much filler, like bleach and naruto and DBZ. I like 24 episode series because of that. I did manage to actually watch all those 200 episodes of fillers except 5 but they were soo annoying I would have not watched them if I had found enough other series to watch during that time.

Wow, I hate things like that. >__< That's one of the reasons why I like manga better than anime, usually. You can read at your own pace. Sometimes fillers are interesting, but most of the time they're just pointless.

.hack//sign didn't have that bad of a opening. (it thought it was decent among the others.) Naruto and DragonBall Z definitely had all of those fillers that were definitely unneeded in the series. (and I don't even want to start with Yu-Gi-Oh. Can't they just respect that Yugi is a better duelist than Joey? xD.) It seems as though probably all Shonen series that are highly popular are the longest of them all just because they want them to last for a while so they can earn a lot of money. I definitely prefer shoujo more. xD.

I do agree with the manga idea and it's lack of fillers. Also Shojo series are a lot nicer from lack of many many fillers, but DN Angel had a few that annoyed me, well maybe they were slightly plot important but they weren't needed cause they beat the horse with a dead stick over and over till it was dead too.

Probably the only Shojo series that I could say had a but too much fillers or flashbacks was Ouran host Club. Fortunately, they did it in an appealing way and made it way more interesting.

Hm, there's was a bit odd, but it started to stop for a small bit. That is when I like the series best. I have fond some like orphan way to repetitive, and there are some others too. Kashimashi I think has a bit of flashback, but most of them are even important.

I agree with you about the excessive recaps. I aslso dislike when they show the exact same opening clip before the credits nearly every episode. Though there'll be that one time when they change it, and it's the same time you get fed up and skip it. -.-

My biggest peeve, though, is when they have the most abysmal English voice actors. It can totaly ruin a series for me. One of the main reasons I still enjoy just turning the subs on.

D: I FEEL YOU! I absolutely hate when they use so much of the show just to recap. Yes. We know what happened (and if someone didn't, too bad D; That's why you start from episode 1). I'd understand if there were really long breaks in between certain episodes, or there was a particular thing that just had to be flash-backed-to, but...seriously. Every time? D: NO.

And it's like a rule in anime that if it's a long series, most of it must be like those "I-stand-on-a-cliff-and-let-the-wind-blow-my-cliff" shots. Oh, speaking of shots. "EPIC" fights must be shown at 3 different angles. Repeatedly. D<

@Heiroglyphica: AIIIIIIE don't even get me started on dubs x_x;; I abhore them with a passion.

Whats sad is that the anime based off of popular shonen manga that will for surely get the companies a profit get licensed while a 50 something long episode series such as Monster, which in a way is just more awsome than Death note will, won't probably get licensed because its a senin series and is too long for a series that will probably end up directly to dvd.

Long series don't bother so much because they're long, it's because they suffer from "power up syndrome".

When the author does something awesome... he has to try and beat that next time he wants to do something awesome. Which tends to result in ridiculous world-ending powers being used every 20 seconds.
See: Naruto's power growth
DB -> DBZ -> GT and the amount of times the world will be blown-up, etc

The "here's what happened last time" thing might be annoying, but it served a useful purpose when the anime was aired originally. :3
I watch most of it on DVD, I just skip the chapter.

okay i really loved .hack because it was one of the first serious anime's i watched. But i didn't really like the opening music because it just seemed weird, the music didn't match the series.

I love the way they made the realy world scenes balck and white and no sound and no eyes and such, it really made a spere.

I so agree with rinali lee 2, i mean you have to wqatch a series from the beginning, missed an ep, go cry ion your emo corner, we don't care we just want to atch our show. Especially if your like me and watch narutio on tve and right after the intro and what happened last time thers a comercial brek, POINTLESS

I prefer the shorter 26 or so ep Anime. If an Anime is going to be longer, it must actually go somewhere, and not have wind ruffling hair/clothes scenes.

It's a great way for the animation companies to earn money. XD They just save on production costs by recaps and frame recycling, and get the profit from being able to sell more filer episodes!

That said, one year, when Cartoon Network was showing the beginning of the Goku vs Frieza fight, I left the country for a month - and came back to find that the fight was STILL going on. XD
