Does anyone else read Shonen Jump? The monthly magazine, not Akamaru Jump weekly. What do you think of Naruto Shippudenn so far? I love it, Sakura and Naruto are funny...oh and Konohamaru. XD I recently found two volumes from this year and they are so awesome. I love Absolute Boyfriend.

I bought the March issue for Shoujo Beat a few days ago. It was my first time buying one of those magazines~ xD I really enjoyed reading all the news and new mangas. :3 I'm planning on making a subscription; it keeps me updated on the anime and manga news. xDD

American Shonen Jump went downhill in quality of its awsomeness from when it first started publication. But atleast it still has some good manga to read.....oh how I miss Jump Guy..... :(

I subscribe to Shojo Beat. :3
I love that magazine. The most obvious reason being that I enjoy shojo manga xD. But the magazine also has lots of information on Japanese trends and culture, which I am also into.
Then there's the previews of new manga, which gives me ideas of new stuff I want. I still need to buy High School Debut and B.O.D.Y.
I've gotten into some Japanese music from the magazine too. Like L'Arc~en~Ciel.
Plus its got that kawaii little panda mascot, Moko. >.<

My favorite serial in it was Absolute Boyfriend, but its over now. ;-;
I really like Vampire Night and Honey and Clover though too. (And most of the others.)

I read it all the time at the local Borders store. I plan to suscribe soon. The info it gives on manga is great, and the previews sure are nice.

@Kitami: Yeah definately buy High School Debut, after seeing it in Shojo Beat magazine I bought it and now have up to volume two. It totally rocks. :D

Yeah, I'm planning on buying it. I had the money for it, but then I spent it on a shirt. >.<
But I -need- it. lol I like the storyline, from what I read in SB.

>.> <.< *just realized a few hours ago that B.O.D.Y. doesn't come out until May* So...I need to buy it when it actually comes out, and not now. xD

O.O
I just have...17 that I can find. Some Ranma, Inuyasha, Saikano, Angel Sactuary, MARS, Ai Yori Aoshi....I've got some Vampire Game around here somewhere, but my little brother hijacked the volumes of that that I had and I haven't seen them since...>:/

I used to have a lot more when I had a job and could afford them, then I lost my job. ^^; And my parents usually won't buy them for me because they think that its a waste of money. xD

The collection that I had dwindled in part because one of my best friend's mom said that she couldn't have manga anymore because she found -one- in her room that was "inappropriate", so she had to sell all of hers, so me and another girl went to the bookstore with her and sold some of ours to make her feel better. >.<
Most of the rest of my collection got "borrowed" and was never returned when we were trading manga around during school. DD:<

lol for the longest time I only bought 13+ manga so my parents would have nothing to complain about if they read through it. Now I buy the occasional 16+.

If I want to read anything I think my parents would give me a problem about, I just download the scans online. I feel if you buy a decent amount of manga and support the companies for their translating work, reading scans won't hurt. In fact sometimes reading a scan as a preview will get me to buy the series if I like it.

My mom and dad understand that my manga collecting is my hobby, and they'd rather I spend my allowance on this than drugs I guess. hahaha

I am subscribed to shojo beat and i feel like they went through a slump in good manga quality as far as art work goes. not saying the series are terrible, i just have a specific taste and they didn't have it for a long time, it was sad.

@kitami

Well I'm usually broke, so i either read them at Walmart or borrow my friends. XD

But I personally prefer Shonen Jump...I need action! Though the cute romantic mangas in Shjojo Beat keep me somewhat hooked. ^_^

I used to subscribe to both of them until they started removing some of the series.
(I only read Shonen Jump for Shaman King and Naruto, which they too out already. And I only read Shojo Beat for Nana, which is not there anymore.) I guess I will just buy the novels instead. I probably prefer Shonen Jump more if I think about it. They have more series that appeal to their audience rather than Shojo Beat who has soo many varieties that appeals to some but does not to others. It's pretty hard to have like three series in the magazine that you do not like. However, I would love to see Shonen Jump hurry up and finish many of these mangas already. xD. They are taking too long to finish. I'm pretty sure that it has been over five years that these series are still going. (and they only finished a few like Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragonball Z.)

Sometimes I read shojo beat. I really like the little stories and it helps me pick out which book I want to read.

I've never read Shojo Beat magazines, but I have subscribed to Shonen Jump before. From as far as I can tell, they've become cheap... it really hasn't been good for a while. =(

I remember I first got into Naruto because of Shonen Jump. I became kind of obsessed and decided to abuse my poor dial-up Internet and download the manga. When the next issue of Shonen Jump appeared, I flipped through the Naruto section and realized it was translated kind of inaccurately... and decided to stick with the online version.

Recently, I picked up the first 3 volumes of NANA from a nearby library. I realize that Shojo Beat is trying to appeal to teenagers, but... their word choice sucks. Sometimes, it makes the characters seem out of character.

I prefer manga by scanalation groups online more. They tend to translate things more accurately without making the characters seem out of character.

  • I've never liked Shojo Beat, but I have bought random issues of Shonen Jump off of magazine stands.

I prefer Monthly Shonen GanGan as my manga magazine of choice. x3

Is Monthly Shonen GanGan even out in America?

And on another note who is going to subscribe to Yen Plus when it starts this summer?

@Azure - No, it's only in Japan. My cousin sends them to me as they come out.

I might look into this 'Yen Plus'. I haven't found much information on it, so I'll have to wait and see.

Nope, but did you know both of them are owned by Viz? :D

I heard that Viz was going to license two manga (from the same mangaka) that i like (Angel Hunt and Kira Kira Labyrinth, in which both have cutsey art, X3)

Hey irony for the win. Between the time it took for me to reply apparently Yen Plus line up has been revealed and alot of it is comprised of manga from Gangan Comic's line up.

So everybody wins!
