Tomb Raider

From the games, to the movies.

Lara Croft, a powerful female game character. She's one of the first playable female game characters, and has been on her feet since 1996. Each year a great game has been created, along with merchandise and memorabilia.

She's only fictional, but there has been many models who've played as the lovely heroine since day one. Each year they retire and move on, as the next model steps up and has the chance to be Lara for a year and a half. (That's the nature of the job, to be as long as a year or two long).

There's many games--

Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider Gold: Unfinished Business (PC)
Tomb Raider 2
Tomb Raider 2 Gold: Golden Mask. (PC)
Tomb Raider 3
Tomb Raider 3 Gold: Lost Artifact. (PC)
Tomb Raider 4: Last Revelation.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles.
Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness.
Tomb Raider: Legend.
Tomb Raider: Anniversary.
Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Tomb Raider: Level Editor (PC)

Tomb Raider: Prophecy. (Gameboy)
Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword. (Gameboy)
Tomb Raider: Nightmare Stone. (Gameboy)

Tomb Raider: Osiris Codex (Mobile)
Tomb Raider: Quest of Cinnabar (Mobile)
Tomb Raider: Elixir of Life (Mobile).

Action Adventure DvD game.

As well as there's many books, and a couple of films, along with a bunch of fan made material.

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life.

Tomb Raider comics

Tomb Raider: Amulet of Power (Novel)
Tomb Raider: The Lost Cult (Novel)
Tomb Raider: The Man of Bronze (Novel)

Lara Croft has been a huge inspiration for a lot of people all around the world, and she continues to inspire. Currently Crystal Dynamics is working on "Tomb Raider: Underworld", a continuation of the remake of the original, and Legend (The games Crystal Dynamics had made, to bring Lara back to life). A Story that brings the Immortal being: Natla, back. Yes, it was Natla who has spoken to Lara at the end of the gameplay trailer, not Amanda. Amanda, as we all know is the devious blond character in Legend. A weak, yet intelligent young woman who seeked revenge upon her long time friend Lara Croft. Obviously losing the fight, with Lara swinging the third Excalibur, like mad, then pistol whipping Amanda in the end. Blaming the blond girl on Lara's lost mother. Such a great cliff hanger, and had us wait for the answers for a year or two as Crystal Dynamics stocked Tomb Raider: Anniversary on store shelves. A fantastic remake, but nothing compared to the original.

One more thing before I finish this first post.

To those who haven't paying much attention, or really doesn't know and would like to know is that Core Design has been making the Tomb Raider games since Toby Gard game up with the game. Toby Gard is the creator the game, he's the brains of the operation. After the first game Toby left and went into Crystal Dynamics. For years Core has made many games, until they couldn't cope with the demands they decided to kill Lara Croft off, in "Tomb Raider: Last Revelation". Fans weren't very happy with this, so Core made one more game to keep them happy; Tomb Raider: Chronicles. Though, such a short game, and only telling of Lara's past adventures, it didn't satisfy everyone, but at least it was another Tomb Raider game. Years went by and Core wanted to bring LAra back to life, so they worked on a game called "Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness". Explaining how Lara survived, and also giving everyone a perspective of how she really is. This was the first 'next gen' Lara. Though, the game wasn't such a huge success, due to the fact that Eidos gave Core such a small amount of time to produce such a great game -- I personally loved AoD, despite the glitches, and a lot of missing material.

Whilst Core Design still had the rights to make the Tomb Raider games, they decided to create a remake of the original, called "Tomb Raider: Anniversary Edition", made for the small hand held platforms. Just months after they're into it, and have made teaser trailers, which have been banned from the net until just recently, Crystal Dynamics was working on 'Tomb Raider: Legend'. Eidos cancelled and fired Core design, hiring Crystal Dynamics. Crystal is currently making the games. They've brought Lara back in a new light, and new engine, along with Toby Gard at their side. He finally gets the chance to direct his long lost character.

I haven't read the novels, nor have I read all the comics. I do own some volumes.
I have not yet played the DvD adventure, nor played the gameboy games, or even the Mobile ones. I do own all the main games made by both Core Design and Crystal Dynamics. I do not own Tomb Raider Level Editor, sadly.

sweet deal, i do enjoy her movies. I have to say though, i've never played any of the games, are they any good? i never really thought i would get into them much. I didnt realize they're were so many different forms of media for the lara croft series. O_o

I personally think that all Tomb Raider games are fantastic. Though, like usual there's flaws here and there. Nothing that terrible. But, I hear that most the 8-bit TR games, that are meant for the Cellphones, and classic Gameboys -- fail. It's what I was told, but I want to make my own opinion of it, once I get a hold of such games.

I've only played the ones that are out for the systems and PC. Not the mini games, sadly.

(PS.: Lara Croft is my mule.)
