I'm not active on Gaia, not in a posting sense anyway, but I wouldn't give my stuff away. I like playing on zOMG, but that's basically all I do. That and stuff things in my aquariums.
I did make an effort and revive a 3 years dead quest as the value of the item had dropped by quite a few million, and selling off stuff that I didn't want would have got me halfway towards that goal. I started playing booty grab then to get my earnings up, but tired of that extremely quickly, wasted a couple of hundred K on a mermaid and a turtle to try and make my tank more appealing to others and help me earn. But I couldn't tolerate being forced to post a lot in the aquariums forum to get people to play my tank. Then a friend of mine gave me the item I was questing for anyway, so I didn't need to do that any more. So I'm just back to collecting the Daily Crud when I feel like it, and pottering about on zOMG. |
Same here, though now that I've decided to stop wasting my life on Gaia so much, I mainly just go there for the Daily Chance stuff once in a few days, make a few posts in a few of my favorite threads, ...that's about it. I think I might give away a few of my things to my friends if they happen to be questing for it and I don't use it much...
|
It's better to never say never about quitting online sites.
This is actually one of the more of fun things that Gaia has done lately. |
I'm still so new to these places.
I have over 300K on Gaia, so I've been looking to see what rare I would want to go after. The problem is, I don't know Gaia that well, so I don't even know what rares exist that I may be interested in. |
i lost 500k these 3 days on those stupid suspicious packages. D:<
|
What sorts of things can be expected out of the suspicious packages?
|
I beta's for zOMG and at first I really enjoyed it, but then I got annoyed by the constant crashing (which was obviously fixed before the final release) and stopped playing. I went back for a bit but just...I dunno. Im not really big into game's like zOMG really. I got suckered into MapleStory once and that was the -end- of chibi-style mass gaming for me. =_= I actually think Gaia took a page or two from MS book in some things - namely the fish - pixels we pay for but disappear after a certain period of time. Almost every item in the MS cash shop disappears after a set time. One of the differences though, is you can get really awesome items in MS without having to pay a cent - which was how Gia used to be before their cash shop - but now the best items are pay for only. :| Most of the free items that come out nowadays aren't the best e.e
I'm going to keep items that I'm particularly attached to - namely, items Ive had for years. For the most part though, I'm using everything for the art auctions. I'll keep my mains dressed and with a small wardrobe but for the most part Gaia is done for me as soon as I finish up with the auctions. Which, as I said, will take me awhile. *Slips off to work* |
Jeannesha - http://www.tektek.org/gaia/rare_item...icious_Package <-- Those are the items you can find in the Suspicious Package.
Which reminds me that TekTek may have updated with manikins of the equipped items by now. I never purchase anything until I've seen it on TekTek first. I'm never going to be an active part of Gaia, but I'm never going to leave it either. I learn too much from Gaia that I can use to make Menewsha better. And that's generally in the "what not to do" sense. >_>; |
lmao At the 'what not to do' sense part
I haven't even bothered to keep myself updated with all the new things anymore...unless I see something I want. Then I'd go and look it up to see where it came from and whether it's worth it or not. |
Nnn. I guess the problem for me is, I've been an insanely active member on Gaia for years. When my first account got banned I was really teeved - my friends and I sent messages to Gaia for days - weeks - we sent more a year later...kept at it for about three years. Three years (by which point we were just doing it out of boredom =.= ) and never once got a response. Which, considering how much real cash went into that account, said alot about Gaia Customer Service :| But, we plunged on. I got over it - its a big joke between my friends and I now. I made other accounts - recklessly spent more money on Gaia - and remained insanely active. Now, five years later (I don't consider myself an 03' member since I joined at the tail end of December BD) and -I Dont Even Want To Know- dollars later, Im faced with a hacking incident. Where Gaia's wonderful customer service agency showed its Awesome!Face. :sarcasm: One of my mules (thankfully it was a mule) lost a Lunar Cloak. Now, in comparison to my main - this is pretty diddly. Doesn't mean I don't report it - I want my item back, thanks. I went about it through a moderator I'm friends with and she pointed me in the right direction. Two weeks after my many discussions with her and my report, I get a message from another moderator saying they 'dealt with the hacker' but 'there's no guarantee of item return' and some weird stuff about me being under surveillance O.o I messaged him back basically asking if they dealt with the situation, why can't I get my item back? And he sends me some ToS loophole and some beat-around-the-bush jargon that left me feeling rather slighted and ticked off. By that point I'd realized something I'd been attempting to ignore for years. Gaia - even when it was small - does not care about its users. I spent more money on that site then I care to think on, and they don't even care to return my pixels :| That's pretty much where my Gaia hate-on started.
A month later (From the time of the hacking) I got my cloak back. I am convinced that my moderator friend had something to do about it, because I was absolutely certain I was never going to see it again when it magically showed up in my mules inventory o_O Nevertheless, the seeds of doubt and paranoia were sown. If I lost my main, I was screwed on Gaia. Then I got to thinking about all the things I refused to complain about and finally threw my hands in the air and started ranting XD Then I slowly began branching to other sites - but I didn't decide officially to leave until recently. Most reasons are already stated in other posts - everything from item deterioration to marketplace rape to ignorant developers. If someone had said even six months ago that I'd be getting rid of Gaia for good, I would have thought they were half past crazy, but there you have it. |
SO many stories of bad customer service, it's demoralising really. It would seem that certain areas just haven't been made as safe as possible over the years, either. You'd think that by now, with the coding team that they must have, that they've have found and fixed every possible loophole, and have lots of features in place for tracking/logs and so on. But hackings still go unfixed, and people still get unfairly banned by the cartload. It's really rather depressing.
And CK's right, we do watch what Gaia does, and more often than not is so we can say, "Damn! let's never do that!" Though occasionally it's, "WFT, did they copy that straight from us!", and admittedly sometimes it's also, "Shit, that's a neat idea, wish we'd thought of that/had the coders/cashflow to be able to do that" |
It really is demoralizing. What I really love is how Gaia acts like its got this great hacking service going but really, it doesn't. Here is the exact quote from Zero Omega after I sent a response to him asking why the heck I was under review in order to get my stolen pixels back:

Meh. There are a lot of things Gaia does that other sites should use as a 'Do Not Repeat' guideline - both currently and in the past. Like, the Personals? Oh mah GAWD was that ridiculous @[email protected] The stuff that went on there...*shudders in repulsion* Or that evil egg event? 500 eggs? Seriously? @[email protected] Pushing it. |
When they took away my null fragments, I sent them email.
After a couple of weeks I got a note back saying they were "looking into it", and that it would take some time. Here it is over a month later, and I haven't heard a thing. I also haven't gotten the null fragments back that they took. |
@Jeannesha: Well at least you don't need null fragments for anything anymore. I found it strange I had to search high and low until I found information saying that null fragments were discontinued and their only use now would be to trade them for orbs or a ring (if you have 50). There are some things in zOMG that could be better explained. A lot of people don't understand G'hi either. I certainly didn't until I looked up several explanations for it.
|
What? When did that happen?
Don't you still need null fragments to make the recipes that you get in zOMG? |
Nope, they removed their usage completely. I have no idea when it happened or why, but they completely nixed them from the game. All you can use them for now is trading them in for orbs to Nicu in the game. None of the recipes require null fragments anymore.
|
Huh.
Well, I guess I won't keep pestering them to give me back my 30-40 fragments that they took away from me. |
I have to admit, the suspicious package items are pretty nice, this time around. And I still like these kinds of items better than the evo items.
Though, again, I think the evo items sometimes could be a whole shop update, depending on which one it is. |
I looked on tektek. There were some nice looking items. I don't know if I want to spend the bucks on it though.
|
They seem to be focusing too much on those items though. I keep getting a ton of updates about evolution and cash shop items but I don't remember when the last normal shop update was. I'm getting annoyed seeing all these items that I would need to spend real money on (or ridiculous amounts of gold if bought on the market).
|
There was those cocktail-type dresses.... that was fairly recent.
|
Yeah, it was the Audrey Hepburn/Hip-Hop update that was the last commons update I'm aware of. ::does some digging:: That was March 3rd.
Unless you count the hair update on April 13th as a shop update, which I kinda don't. |

Where is this Nicu character? |
It's Nicolae, the guy who runs Backalley Bargains in Barton Town. For some reason "Nicu" is his nickname.
|
I noticed that what null fragments I had had disappeared, I didn't care enough to go find out why though xD I imagine it would have been extremely hard to gather 50 of them. I had 25 on my main initially, but I think they nerfed the earning of them as the other two accounts that I started playing on later only ever managed to gain a small amount.
I wouldn't be suprised if you'd actually have completed the game by the time you got 50 and could get a ring with them xD |
