I am weak against free things...
so, no wonder I distance myself from Gaia. DX

jellysundae 05-05-2009 04:30 PM

I get seriously pissed off with those PMs trying to get me to spend real money on a birthday gift for someone I probably barely know >_>

It would be a nice function if it was just a birthday reminder. But it isn't, it's just another ploy to get cash out of you : /

Wordstreamer 05-05-2009 08:08 PM

I like to go into art contest threads.... I made some friends in mine, so now I try to stay in contact with them, too. It's good; my guild's pretty much dead.

I wouldn't mind the birthday reminders--but I think that I only get one or two; most of my friends have theirs turned off. So it's kind of pointless for me. :/

Jeannesha 05-06-2009 01:35 AM

Quick! The guy you clicked on and accidentally made a friend is having a birthday! You must buy him the hermitmeremeatcat from the cash shop now! Now! Now!

Ferra 05-06-2009 01:50 AM

I finally went through and removed anyone on my friends list that I couldn't remember. XD I kept a few simply because their usernames amused me, but now it's mostly just my IRL friends, a few old users I befriended years ago, and the new people who add me on zOMG when we crew together.

I find it interesting that I don't always get the birthday update PMs, it seems to be rather selective on whom they PM me about since the rest just show up in the "My Gaia" feed.

jellysundae 05-06-2009 02:02 AM

I have no clue who some of the people on my main's friendlist are xD Clearly they've had name changes since I added them. It's about time I had a clearout.

Shion Uzuki 05-06-2009 03:11 AM

Is it just me, or are these birthday reminders reminding you of EVERYONE you've ever been friends with? Because I keep getting them and I don't recognize the usernames, and they're not on my list. >_> Maybe I'm on theirs? D: No idea.

Ferra 05-06-2009 03:28 AM

Hmm, that's odd. I do notice that it tends to be the people I don't remember in the slightest that I get birthday updates about, rather than the people I actually know. I'm not sure what system they use to decide who is PM-worthy.

jellysundae 05-06-2009 03:30 AM

Maybe users are hacking the system to try and get free gifts? Just a step-up from those people who feel the need to announce that it's their birthday, in their signature, in the hope that people will give them stuff >_>

Ferra 05-06-2009 03:36 AM

Screw my birthday, I want people to give me free stuff all the time. XD

(Kidding of course. :ninja:)

Jennifer 05-06-2009 05:13 AM

I noticed that, too! I hate those stupid birthday reminders. :XD I once had a friend private message me on there on her birthday and personally ask me to gift her things for her birthday. .___. lammme. I was like, "das nawt frendchip!" :illgetu:

I love getting on Gaia to order art of my Menewshan avatar.

Ferra 05-06-2009 05:42 AM

Wow. XD I've never had the cojones to downright demand a gift from someone. Actually, a lot of my friends are cheapskates (but in this economy that's totally understandable) so there's never been an expectation for presents. Usually I'll be treated to a nice piece of art though. <3

Gossy 05-06-2009 05:54 AM

I'm pretty repelled by their new shop NPC artwork. Sasha is practically skeletal.

I am sad about the lack of effort put into MCs and the abundance of effort put into EIs. Just compare the artwork from, say, the Red Riding Hood MC display and the recent Fremere's Guard wallpaper.

Fremere's Guard Wallpaper
Red Riding Hood MC artwork

I feel a vast discrepancy in the effort to promote their EIs and the MCs. They used to do fun puzzles to guess the MCs, and also animations. No more. ):

Jennifer 05-06-2009 07:53 AM

Well a lot of people try to work their way around it to make it look like they're not really asking. "Yeah, so...my birthday is coming up." "Nobody really gives me anything; I guess they don't care." .___. I hate when people do that.

I never really notice the artwork much. Though I did happen to realize the difference in the old shopkeeper artwork and the new. They're just really different styles.

I'm not able to view that second image, so I can't really compare those two.

I dislike the new npc art not only because all of the girls no longer possess the room inside themselves for ribcages but also because nice mother ruby who always gave you a sexy side look and some cleavage has become younger and basically a winged call girl with less sexual appeal. People have been complaining that the art change makes the women more into sex symbols but if you compare Vanessa's former outfit to the current one and it can be seen that the NPC females are more unrealistic and less sexual. A side effect of this is that a tan and a wig is now all the separates the NPC females from one another even personality wise.

I've seen those a lot, and there are the threads saying things like, "(thread topic) It's my birthday today!" "(thread content) Gifts pl0x?" And there are the ones 'advertising' their birthday in their signatures..."My birthday is coming up on May xx, buy me a gift?" things like that. It's funny how people are trying so hard to fish a gift from others.

Also got the PMs asking for presents. What's ridiculous about it was that I don't even friggin' know the person who PMed me. Like, it was just a total random message to me saying, "Hey, sorry to bother you and all, but it's my birthday today! Will you buy me a present?? Plsssss??"

...W...T...F? :|

Thulhu 05-06-2009 10:46 AM

:XD I keep getting messages from people who want me to give them the things that I'm currently selling in the marketplace. But I only check back every few days so the item is almost always sold by the time i get their message anyways. And yeah they are all total strangers . :XD

Jeannesha 05-06-2009 04:10 PM

Hey, it's my birthday in November... I expect that you all will mark your calendars and save your pennies to get me a fantabulous gift!

Actually, lately I've been forgetting my *own* birthday...I don't think I want any birthdays anymore...

Thulhu, or they send you a PM, offering to buy your MP item at about half the price you want. I just ignore those...

Thulhu 05-06-2009 06:55 PM

I know it's so weird to me. How can a person see an item in the market for like 20,000gold and then think to them self: "Boy she's selling that thing, that must mean she hates it and wants to get rid of it as quickly as possible. Obviously if I act whiney enough she'll give it to me since she's getting rid of it either way." And meanwhile we get the pm and go "what? who are you? I need golds like anyone else!"
So silly :XD

Jeannesha 05-06-2009 07:25 PM

Especially when they don't even ask.

Sometimes they just say "you should sell that red royal cloak to me for 20000 gold".

Thulhu 05-06-2009 07:27 PM

I wish they'd offer money!
Everyone who pms me wants a handout

Jeannesha 05-06-2009 07:28 PM

Oh no Thul! You're nekkid!

Thulhu 05-06-2009 07:32 PM

Just taking a picture for a pixel thing

Jeannesha 05-06-2009 08:20 PM

I like the shoes....

jellysundae 05-06-2009 08:27 PM

When I was questing on Gaia a while back and selling off a lot of stuff, I rceived a number of PMs, all from people wanting me to sell them my items for around half what I was asking for them (which was the fair market price, I don't inflate my prices)

Some kid wanted me to let him have my wind security blanket for 170k, as it was all he had, AND, because it was his birthday! >_>
Sadly for him it had already sold for 250k by the time I read his PM. I just delete stuff like that. Not worth my time trying to teach them not to be whiney, self-entitled brats.
