I just traded in my DS for the DSi this weekend, and I wanted to see if anyone else has purchased this system. I do use the system for my own gaming (I love you Final Fantasy series) but I mostly use it with the kids I work with.
I like the camera and it's affects, but, if I weren't using this for working with the kids, I would not recommend it for most people. It's fun and all...but not THAT fun. Not worth the amount of money in difference fun. Well, maybe when the system gets a bit older and they work out the bugs.
I am also EXTREMELY disappointed in the web browser. It's so painfully slow! It takes for ever to load up Menewsha, and you can't play Mene tetris on it because something on the page is not supported by the DSi.
I'd love to hear some other reviews on it. Maybe someone else has figured out how to make that browser faster, or has a better opinion overall over the thing. Personally, I am wishing I had waited for it to get better/faster before purchasing the thing.

I compared my DS Lite to someone else's DSI. The screen is bigger and yea it has the whole browser thing but I don't really see it being worth it until they come up with something fancier. I'll be sticking with my Lite for now.
I didn't get to see her camera in use, but I'm not sure I hold hope that it'll be that great.
It would probably be like the one on my phone, there but I just never use it.

I knew they wouldn't fix the browser. But the Nintendo has never been good at browsing through the internet with hand held devices and such.
My opinion? I'm waiting till October or December. Call me stupid but I'm the type of person who likes color on my systems. Black and Neon Candy Dispenser Blue, just don't tickle my fancy. I'm quite happy with my Nintendo DS Lite and it's very new. If I still had my slightly defective pink DS then I would consider trading it in. The DSi definitely catches my eye but I shall wait till it goes down in price or when it comes in other colors.
As for camera. It is much better than what it sounds. I've seen a Nintendo DSi and played around with it a bit and looked at the pictures taken with it. It isn't FANTABULOUS but it isn't horrid beyond belief. Over all I do like the revamp they did on the DS system. I think that they should have made the browser a little more friendly to flash users, which was a problem I previously encountered in the DS Lite. I also think the down grade in battery life was a bit...too much. I don't have the website at hand that showed the numbers of hours it went down and the screen size. I'll try to look for it later and maybe post it if people want to see.
But yeah, basically I'm going to wait since I have a working Nintendo DS Lite.

Nothing's replacing my giant original silver Nintendo DS. XD
Also, not even the interwebs will make me trade in my dual-slot Pokemon compatibility.

Pretty pointless unless you can't get a digital camera for some reason imo.

I'm with you AgentKaz. I've still got my original silver DS. Nothing's wrong with it, it plays fine, so there is no reason for me to get another DS just so I can play pictures and not be able to play GameBoy Advanced games.

The largeness of it never bothered me, anyways. I don't need no pansy tiny DS! I needs mah Pokemons!
My DS has a Sonic skin I got really cheap around DS Lite time. XD yay, old accessories.

I still have my old red DS. I hadn't played with it too much before, but recently i've been using it more. I like that the screens of the DS lite and DSi are brigter. I often borrow my sister's lite because the picture is just that much more vivid.

P'shaw, who needs vivid? I can live with my GBA that has no backlite. The original DS even hurts my eyes.

I like the backlight. That was one of the most awesome things about the DS. I no longer had to sit under a lamp to play a video game anymore. In fact, I could play video games after I was supposed to be in bed because i didn't need the light on. :3 I don't need the even brighter screen though.

I personally love the DSi over the DS lite. The screen is bigger and brighter. The actual hand held is slimmer and longer. The speakers sound nicer on it, and over all I think it was a nice little upgrade. The SD memory slot and the camera on it, for the time being, are pretty much just there for shits and giggles right now...but I could see them releasing specific DSi only titles and perhaps offering DSI owners the capability to buy loaded SD cards with specific game extras...or perhaps updates to current games. I think there is potential there.

I think I wouldn't trade my DS for it, but thats because I love playing Game Boy Advance games and I don't really think internet browsing on handhelds are necessary when there are already so many computers around to use at home or school. I personally would like the bigger screen but not at the cost of the GBA game slot.

I've got no plans to trade my DS lite for a PSi at the moment, and the main reason is that I like having dual slots. Others have mentioned pokemon, using the dual slot ability-- it's nice, but I also like to have just ONE clunky electronic taking up space so I can play all my games on it. Backwards compatibility is my middle name. xD
I never got a GBA SP, so having the backlight comes in handy for playing GBA games especially. I can't stand the regular screen, I couldn't play for longer than a few minutes without my eyes hurting, and it was impossible to take it on trips in the car. And long trips are the main reason I have hand held systems to begin with!
I agree that a bigger screen, and even a memory expansion slot, would be nice, but not at the expense of my GBA capabilities.
Eventually they'll phase out GBA completely and maybe then I'll consider getting a newer system, but for now, what I have it fine. And it's a pretty pink, so who can argue with that?
Also, as an after thought, I don't like buying technology when it's brand spanking new like the DSi is. It's a significant enough deviation from the original and the Lite that it's got a ton of bugs and quirks that need to be worked out before I'd even think about switching seriously, even if I didn't have the GBA hang up.

Well when it comes to nintendo products I'm a upgrade whore. I had the original Gameboy, The Gameboy Color, GBA, GBA SP, and I currently have the micro. The only gameboy I never had was the pocket, but if I had the money (as I was still young and living at home), I could only imagine I'd have owned one.
I've also had the original DS, DS lite, and now a DSi. I've owned the original NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube (two at one point actually), and now I have the Wii. I'm a major Nintendo fangirl.
It does stink the GBA slot has been taken, but since I have a really sexy Micro, I'd rather play on that. :)

Beh, I don't use my GBA slot so I wont miss it if I upgrade. And I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon for some practical reasons and some shallow ones. If I really want internet I can get my DS lite to do it and I have a working camera that I can transfer the pictures on and off much easier then I would with a DSi. On top of that the current colors are not very pretty and it looks a little bulkier then the DS lite.

I actually don't even have a DS. I don't care much for handheld games >_>
But if I were to pick, I'd go for a DS Lite. I'd definitely use the GBA slot more than the SD card slot. D: I mean... taking pictures, really? Does anyone NOT have access to a digital camera? From what I hear, it's overly difficult to actually get the pictures on the interwebs anyway.

I agree fully.
My giant silver DS has been through so much D: Its got stickers on it, nail polish spilled on it, scratches on it, and one hinge is broken.
But it plays fine, Nintendo makes pretty durable systems. I just don't see why I should buy an entire new DS just because it's new o_o

I am not purchasing one... I don't need a gaming system to take pictures for me and all of that. That's what my phone is for, or just a plain camera. Another reason I'm not getting one is because I have a perfectly good DS lite, and occasionally I will use my GBA slot. Not only that, but if I did upgrade I'd probably end up missing some GBA games and would regret my purchase.
So I'm sticking with my DS lite. :} We've had some good times and long nights together. XD

I've thought of another benefit for having a DSi. My security on my router is WPA2 and the DS and DS lite only works with WEP. True, I could change my setting to WEP, but i've been told that WPA is much more secure and I really don't want to mess with it.

Being the Nintendo geek that I am, I had to have a Nintendo DSi. I'd been tracking the progress on it ever since I heard it was coming out, and having a birthday close to the release date really worked in my favor. Haha!
I absolutely adore playing with the record feature and all its gimmicks, taking silly pictures, and all that jazz, so the purchase was really worth it for me. Then again, I'll always be a kid at heart, so my opinion of its worth might vary greatly from the next person's.
I know that it seems redundant to have one camera, let alone two, but let me tell you. There is one game that makes absolute genius use of it, and that is WarioWare: Snapped! The game is a downloadable mini-game (that should be free, provided you didn't spend your 1000 free starter points in other ways) uses the camera to track your movement, making you move your head, face, and hands to make full use of the game.
You play peek-a-boo with an upset baby, make kissy faces at faces on the screen, tilt your head to pour water on plants, grab at coins suspended in the air, and more. The end result is a slideshow of all the faces and moves you made - usually edited by the game to look even sillier.
Overall, the upgrade to DSi was worth it for me. I use it enough to be worth the money, and my mom is certainly glad that she got a DS Lite out of the deal... ;P

I have an original DS. I'm perfectly happy with it. DS lite is nice and all, but i saved 50 bucks and i don't really see enough of a difference to trade up to a Lite or DSi.
I'm a nintendo fan personally. I think they have a lot of good games.

Right now, me and my GBA SP get along quote well, *pats it sitting next to her* quite well indeed. :3
I don't have a DS or a DSi, but I was looking to buy one. Either that or the new PSP coming out in August with FF: Dissidia. I still can't decide, but from what I've read here, I'd be better off with the DS Lite. owo; But when DSi first came out, a friend of mine got it, and had it the next day in school. I have been personally morphed on a DSi, and it's kind of impressive some of the stuff you could do with it.
OBJECTION!: WarioWare sounds boss. owo;
Other than that, I don't know much about DSs, but am I seeing this correctly: DS Lite has a GBA slot too, and DSi doesn't? That may just be the tie breaker right there.
I used to be a total upgrade whore for Nintendo too. I have every version of Gameboy: Original, Pocket, Color, Advance ( Actually, I somehow, mysteriously, ended up with three of those... owo;; I don't even know how.), and finally, SP. That was the last one, sadly. I wanted a DS, but my pleas were not heard, and I was quite poor. Still rather am. Lol. But I've saved up enough for a DSi, I'm just wondering if it's worth it.
<w<;;

I had an original Silver DS and still have it though I don't use it. (It was meant to be for my mum and brother but they never go on it). I got a green ds lite for christmas. The colour, screen and stylus are much better. However I only use it now and again. There is a big lack in quantity and quality of ds games at the moment. I heard that you could trade in your ds lite for a new dsi, but I don't know what's the catch and where to do it. I don't know whether to do it or not, and if it's any use. I love the idea of the internet on it as it's be so much easier than getting out my laptop when I need it for a sec or at night. Is the internet not very good then? Do you think I should trade it or not?
