Twitter; what do you think?
I figured this was the best place to ask...so... I've been wondering for a while, what's the point of twitter? Is it even useful or just another kind of thing to do when you're bored?
Anyways, I was wondering what all of you Menewshans thought of twitter and whether or not signing up for it is a big waste of time or not. |
I got a twitter a while back... I don't use it, but most of my friends, bands I like, etc, do use it, so I just use it to follow them and stuff. Not really useful for me besides that since I never have anything to say/don't feel like talking about what I'm doing/etc.

Twitter.
I think Twitter is pretty pointless. I don't have a Twitter account and don't plan on getting one. I mean, all you do is update people on what you're doing? Who cares. I can do that on Facebook. If I want to update people on what I'm up to, I use Facebook. If I want to see what my friends are up to, I check Facebook. Facebook has that feature plus so much more, I see no reason to be on a site that is about that feature only. I don't update things enough, nor do I care about what other people are doing enough to be on Twitter.
|
I don't really understand the point of getting updated on someone's life every few seconds. There are few people I even really care to keep up with, and I like to speak to them face to face. My dear beloved girlfriend, my few best friends, and a brother. I don't like the idea of messaging everyone what you are doing in life. Of course even with Facebook I don't really update anything because if I want to talk about things I do it over the phone or in person.
Meh, personal opinion. |
So it's basically like an ongoing status update with nothing else attached, eh? Does anyone know why it's so popular then? I mean, you hear about it all the time, even makes it into broadcasts....'this person just twittered.....'
|
I really don't like Twitter. I can just update my status on Facebook and then some. Facebook just has more stuff that you can do. |
Damn it face bookers I WANT TO BE APART!
back on topic, from the looks of twitter (which I've seen my mom use) It looks like an instant chat of sorts. just some random things going up on a users page. I don't want one, but if I did, then I could say "I just tweeted some one!" |
@Kraetiis: you still haven't resolved the facebook thing? Good luck with it tho.
Hmm...it seems to be kind of what I thought...just another thing to do because it's popular, only really useful if you want to follow someone/a group that publically tweets. Unless there's someone who strongly disagrees and has a good reason why. |
I think its intresting but I will never use it. its just a faze and everyone will greow bord of it eventually.
|
No, I don't use twitter. I prefer to use facebook status updates if I do something interesting.
|
I like Twitter quite a lot, but I think LiveJournal has had a better system for years ...
|
I don't see the point in it really, same as I never saw the point in the status part of facebook when I went on that (I've deleted myself). I really don't care what people are doing every five seconds especially when it's something really pointless like 'I just ate a sandwich' well done you what do you want a gold star for remember not to starve?
I mean for things like Mene it's not so bad, like when the site went down during Halloween it was useful then but for regular people who appear to do nothing of interest it's pointless. I'm kind of tired of reading in the paper "so and so announced on Twitter" if it's announced on Twitter that makes it more unlikely that I will want to know. So far all the status updates have been used for is seeing which moron tells the whole internet they're out of the house for a week in Spain so someone can go and rob them or whatever teenage numpty invites the whole world to a party and gets the house trashed. I just don't see the appeal.. |
There was a time I could not see the point of Twitter, although I could understand it for businesses and other organizations.
Well, several months ago I worked at a job where my boss wanted a Twitter page, so I made one for myself to see how it worked so that when my boss finally got around to telling me what he wanted for it, I could do it. I still have that Twitter page, and I post to it almost every day. However, I'm not the type to post "I'm sitting on the porch" and the like. I try to keep it something important. I also have it connected to my MySpace page, because it's so much easier to update my MySpace status via Twitter than from MySpace. |
from what i have heard of twitter it sounds pretty useless to me.... i dont plan on ever joining that site... i dont even plan on typing the address in to check it out ~_~
I have been over the websites like myspace, facebook, and twitter for a long time. i only use my facebook account now to keep in touch with friends or relatives who dont live close, but i would still rather call them |
I'm on it.. and now that I think about it.. I'm not sure what I think about it.
I post randomly .. and usually it's just because I'm bored and just think of it... I'm following a person that Tweets about every few minutes.. and still makes it interesting.. and the few I do post.. don't seem too interesting at all. |
I have a twitter but I really can't be bothered to check it most of the time. I pretty much forget it exists until someone mentions it or I see a link on a site that goes, "Oh someone twittered today."
|
I'm going to go ahead and move this along to the Computers and Video Games Forum. :)
|
I love it. (: It's a great way to keep track of what your friends are doing, and let everyone know what you're up to, as well. <3

And my thanks to everyone who has shared their opinions so far. :D Looking at the votes so far, I guess twitter isn't as popular as I thought it was. |
Twitter is not only the ultimate waste of time, it's the ultimate stalker site. Updating your status on facebook (another site I don't care for and refuse to have an account at anymore) is one thing; people don't usually post much there anyway. But a site dedicated to telling people what you're doing, when you're doing it? I think that's just lame. You want to know what your friends are up to? How 'bout you call them and oh, I don't know... ask? You want to stalk celebrities? Well, that just further proves the point that Twitter is a stalker site, and nothing more.
The sites that people are addicted to anymore I find incredibly pointless. |
XD Lyndon, you just made my night. :P Celebrity stalker site!! *whispers* I am watching yooooou....
You know, I can really see how that's true. Although I know I like facebook status updates, just because I really hate actually using my phone as, oh, you know, a phone. Phone-o-phobic...not really, mostly when randomly calling people I don't know, or don't know well. *wanders off to stalk someone* .... :D |
I find Twitter to be absolutely pointless and I thought I read an article a while ago and one psychologist said that people who feel the need to 'tweet' frequently lack an identity.

I admit, I'd be tempted to stalk certain celebrities, but I mean, THEY'RE FAMOUS! I don't want other people stalking /me/ and if the celebrities are too stupid to not post really specific details on their twitter, it's their own fault xP (Not that I could ever actually do anything with it, but someone could!) I'm not a fan of Twitter. For the most part, I fail to see the whole point or appeal of it.
But I gotta say one thing- that site is amazing for convention scheduling. We were at DragonCon this year, and being such a huge convention, a LOT of schedule changes can happen. Signing up to the con's channel was great in helping keep us on top of schedule changes, because we were all gogogogogogogo the whole time and never really had a chance to sit and look at the schedule change sheet unless we were in line. I've also peeked a few times at celebrities' sites. >.> They can say some hilarious stuff. |
And stupid...makes for a good '365 days of the stupidest things ever said' calendar. :D
Hmm...convention channel. I hadn't thought of that. Yea, schedule changes are hard to keep track of sometimes. @Lyndon: Oh, I hate it when my friends do that, except they're usually watching TV while on the phone with me. It's like...lalala waiting for you to actually pay attention to me....I'm still here on the phone you know... Luckily I have a few friends who don't do that (like 2) but we usually e-mail or text message rather than actually talk. |
