Through my years of gaming, I never really thought of it, but genres have had their "age", and I bet with that comes complaints.

I'm 20, and as I was coming up, it was a grab bag of sorts. With Nintendo, you'd see mainly action/adventure. It was like this with many other companies with blends for almost everyone. However, from what I understand, the market for shooters wasn't as wide as it is today.

As much as I moan and complain about there being so many shooters, thinking about yesteryear puts me into perspective. Not to mention other audiences and jumping in, and now we're seeing many casual games pop up. Not that I have a gripe with it, as I'm both casual and hardcore. But if it comes to a subscription, fnord that. I won't spend more than I have to.
Come to think of it, puzzles games unless it's Portal, or casual are generally kept to the side, don't you think? And movie games have gone downhill for quite some time. :(

Sooo..discuss:
-The shift in different genres being so popular, and the fading out of others, including within companies and consoles
-Discontent or praise for other consoles and genres
-?? Whatever might belong 'ere.

I can't wait for the rugged space marine protagonist trend to die down. :x It makes for some pretty badass games but I can only take so much.

I'd like to see a game in which a janitor gets that status. :P
This is something I've had a wonder about as *ahem; "senior" talk* back in the day, a hero could be anything. Crash Bandicoot, Q-Bert....
I remember seeing a flash that a guy named Egoraptor did on Gears of War. :P To a degree, I felt that's how all these big, brawny space hunk games are.

Oh god, it's all so true. D':

Also, does Mario count as a janitor? I mean that's pretty close. Plumber - janitor, all dirty jobs. <_< *dies*
