Schools have already started integrating video games into their curriculum, so why can’t we?
Quote:
Less than 1 percent of schools teach through video games, according to Marc Prensky, author of “Don’t Bother Me, Mom – I’m Learning.” But those that do, laud games as a way to help develop 21st century skills, such as collaborative problem solving, multitasking, and networking.
If other schools can integrate video games, we can too.
My research shows that
Quote:
In classrooms across the country, electronic games have increasingly become tools for teaching problem solving and critical thinking.
If we can convince our schools to integrate video games, we can have a much more enjoyable school day. So I ask all who read this to call their local school board and request this style of learning.
For those who oppose the idea of video games in school I know how you feel. Many of you believe that video games could never be good for kids. Others believe that video games are a just a way to pass the time and have no place in the school curriculum. The truth is
Quote:
Video games can assist children in setting goals, ensuring goal rehearsal, providing feedback, reinforcement, and maintaining records of behavioral change.
Video games are widely popular among kids of all ages and can easily get their attention. According to Dr Mark Griffiths a Professor of Gambling Studies in the Psychology Division of Nottingham Trent University,
Quote:
“Videogames attract participation by individuals across many demographic boundaries (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity, educational status).
If video games were included in school, they could help incorporate team building and teach kids how to work nicely with others.
In conclusion, video games should absolutely be integrated into school curriculums. Learning doesn’t have to be boring, so let’s make it fun for all!!!

Video games have been "funducational" as long as I've been at school. The magic school bus? Carmen Sandiago? And I remember anther one too. My school had them in the classroom, but they weren't part of the curriculum. Just something to do for the early finishers.
