i want to get one soon and i would mostly use it for web surfing and gaming, but i dont know much about laptops. what kind should i get??

I don't think a laptop is a good choice for gaming. If you want a computer for gaming, you should get a desktop. They're more powerful and a LOT more affordable.

Everyone has their own opinions on laptops, but I've always been a fan of Dells. :)

I like Macs personally. I have never had problems with Macs and they are good for graphic/video/sound editing. For gaming I would go for a custom desk top. I never buy name brand desktops and always build my own because it's a lot cheaper and I can build it exactly how I want it.

Desktops are definitely the way to go for gaming.

In terms of a general laptop for websurfing, music, and Photoshopping (which is what I use mine for the most) I swear by Toshiba. Never had a problem with them and the music quality's pretty damn good for a lappy. This thing is like my robot baby.

Desktops are much better for gaming... I find their more reliable, and yes have a lot more space.

That said I use my Acer laptop for everything since I don't have a desktop. Internet, art, chatting, and gaming. (Mainly Plants vs. Zombies or LOL (League of Legends))

I find Acers really reliable so long as you take proper care of it. I had a small issue a little while back, because I kept forgetting to clean out my cache, and delete things I no longer needed...

I personally have an ASUS... seeing how I build my own desktops and have worked fixing computers for a few years... lol. I think I trust my own opinion on things. I currently work warranty support for several companies. I will never own an ACER or eMachines. My best friend's eMachine's desktop caught on fire and the ACERs are the #1 laptop computer type I hear called in for warranty work. I love my ASUS... Since November... I've only ever heard one of them called in. And it was a simple fix issue. It's reliable, dependable, light-weight (about 5 pounds) and has a 9 hour battery life. I love it.

I have an HP Pavilion. It's a really good laptop, I only have problems with it because of messed up software and such, because of Vista. The laptop itself is very good though.

The best I've seen so far, (regarding PC gaming brands) are: Toshiba, MSI, and Asus. (And of course Alienware, but that's if you wanna rake out some big bucks.)

For gaming you need a GREAT graphics card. Which will spike up the laptop price considerably. You'll have to sacrifice some other stuff if you just want it specifically for gaming. Like the hard drive space, etc. You'll need to compensate for the gigantic processor. Gaming laptops have a problem of overheating also. Plus they're usually larger than regular laptops. Desktops are ALWAYS better, but I know how it feels to want to be a portable gamer.
