I've read that the N64 is now considered "ancient", but are there any people here that still play their NES(the Original Nintendo)?
I saw the other Zelda post, but I just beat the original and am working on The Adventures of Link (the sequel). I never got into the newer games b/c it was all about the graphics and not about the gameplay. I would also like to point out that I'm playing on a game console older than many of the mombers here. Scary, huh? My NES will be 21 years old this Christmas. :)
Not that I don't have some of the other systems, just nothing newer than the GameCube (I'm not exclusively Nintendo, but I did grow up with their stuff so I hold a biased opinion).
I would love to find someone else who loves the old games and might be able to offer some advice to help me beat the original Final Fantasy.

I am somewhat of an old school gamer. Although I am sparingly so. Some examples include my favourite game from the Final Fantasy series by far being IV. I would also tend to disagree with you on Zelda. I quite liked the SNES version. Although that is the most recent version I have played properly. xD

I still have a working SNES, play it from time to time. I would play my N64, but I lost the video cables for it after lending it to a friend. I wish I still had my NES, but my brother ended up selling it because he thought nobody would care...but I do care, and I miss those games so much. Other than that, I tend to mostly play the newer stuff.

I still have a fondness for cartridge games sinec they're nearly indistructable. The hardest part for me to get used to with disc games is the loading time. I think that's part of the reason I play my older systems so much! That and the older games were more challenging.
I think new games are starting to look too realistic; I guess I like video games that, well, look like video games.

I love my Super Nintendo. ♥ (: I have my N64 at college, though, and my friends love it. xD I also took the Wii (just incase) and I'm so happy 'cause they usually pick N64 over the Wii. (:
GameCube is one that I never got into for some reason, I hated the graphics. xD
Bomberman, Goof Troop, Donkey Kong, *Lion King,* Super Mario, and that Kirby game on SNES, though? I think I'll still be playing those when I'm an old lady. Maybe one day I'll finally get passed the second level on Lion King. xD

Isn't stuff like the N64 only considered "ancient" by kids? I mean people who were babies when it came out? I have an N64 and a PS1 but no other conssoles, and I'm happy to stick with those as I rarely use them because I suck at most games

Unfortuanately my only experiance playing NES is on pokemon yellow >.< however I do have the old school bulky gameboy... with no battery cover (it still works though!). I admit that I had to shamefully go and ask what it was too. =/ Of course I've always been rather deprived of game systems, so it's more due to the fact that the gameboy and the computer were all I've had for ages. In fact it was only because of my fiance that I got into the Xbox and Playstation. >.< failz
We have been refusing the DSi though because of the lack of backwards compatability. We <3 our gameboy advance games!

That's far from the only cartridge for it. There are hundreds of games for it. The games are really hard b/c they didn't have the graphics to fall back on (Mario is one of the easier games :) ).

I love my classic consoles, My original and refurbished NES and SNES as well as my N64 and PSone, but I do disagree with the fact that most games out today are only in it for the graphics. Dragon Age, Blue Dragon, Oblivion and Fallout3 were all amazing titles with substance and gameplay.

I love the classic consoles. I used to have an NES, but for some reason my dad sold it. We had hundreds of games for it...D: We even had Milon's Castle. I loved that game. I plan on buying another NES soon, and I want to get back all the games I had. >< I remember I used to love playing the original Zelda games..and this one game called Faxanadu. <3 That game was epic. I prefer older games/game systems over newer ones.

Yes, that.
My parents weren't really big on video games, so it's rather surprising they even bought the Nintendo and that one cartridge at all. :XD

I still have my SNES out and able to be hooked up to my TV, for pretty much one reason--Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Pretty much my favorite game ever. XD
I'm old enough to remember begging my parents for an NES, and being amazed and awed when we finally got one (I was 7 or 8, I believe). Back then, 'playing video games' in my family mostly meant 'watching dad play video games and cheering him on.' That continued up through SNES's debut, with Super Mario World, but then after that I managed to beat all the Mario games put out on Super Mario All Stars before dad did, and he never touched any game other than Madden Football again. Ever. It was as though he had passed the torch on to me. *hand over heart*
Oh, and PS, before we had an NES, I totally played games on an Atari system. With an old-school joystick. I was terrible at it, except for River Raid and Smurf. Yep. Smurf. Smurf was epic, man, the same screens again and again but FASTER and with BIRDS chasing you... Exciting stuff, mmmmhm. River Raid though, was the most fun ever when I was tiny. Bam bam bam, blow up those boats and helicopters!

Are you kidding me? I ADOREEEE the classics. I have an N64, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, gamecube an NES and a wii that I only use for virtual console games. The N64 was the best thing that happened to this world :D Not to say I don't like new games, it's just... they've lost their magic to me. Unfortunatly I only have Oot, MM SSB (sometimes, it doesn't usually work), and 007 GoldenEye (which I'm stuck on lol) I don't know what I'd do without them.
Btw I am TOTALLY not Nintendo obsessed (jk I totally am XD)

I've got a super nintendo, and after I move to Japan and settle down I plan to collect one of every GOOD gaming consol from now to atari...
I was actually playing "Plock" not too long ago... and it reminds me of how much easier they've made games nowadays
