AIM vs Windows Live Messenger?

So, I remember using Windows Live Messenger back when it was still MSN Messenger. I think I liked it for being more sleek and easy to customize, but now I just use AIM like it's no one's business. Which do you prefer?

I like MSN (Windows Live Messenger) more than AIM, because it was the first messenger I started using on the regular basis. :) I used ICQ back in the day when I was young, but I only talked to family on it. :S Then I started using MSN in my tweens/teens. I still like MSN to this day. :)

AIM is good, but it just doesn't have that feel MSN. At least I can make my messages moo on AIM though. :)

I see.
Well, for MSN messenger, I sort of lost my hotmail because it was hacked, so I haven't used it in a long time. Is it any better? I remember I was able to draw on it, and ring people if they weren't paying attention... and change my icon at will. :D

What LizzyCollinsDeArc put, it was my first messenger that I use. Though I use it more than AIM or Yahoo. I hate both of those, AIM noise when they send you message is annoying as hell and there was really only one person whom I wanted to talk to on there. Everybody else is annoying and for MSN, I use that more often and it's the only one I have install. Plus it's more easier for me but I suppose everybody text each other or something(?). I don't have lots of contact on MSN, only about nine people and only about five come on. -sigh-

I don't like either. Over the course of making 25 versions of each, they both became huge pieces of bloatware considering their only task is sending and receiving messages.

I just use Pidgin.

Arkkath 07-28-2011 01:30 PM

I use Windows Live because pretty much everyone I know uses it too.
Not many people I know use AIM, so why would I use it?
Plus I like the convenience that it's linked with hotmail. Makes checking my emails much easier.

AIM is gross. I haven't had AIM since, well, I had AOL! To give you an idea how long ago that was, my username is "Starpetsarcastic". That was a tag I used back when I still played Neopets. And hearing "Dirty pop!" every time my friend messages me gets really old. xD

As far as liking MSN/Windows Live Messenger, I do wish I could still use MSN Plus!. It had all sorts of handy add-ons. I still enjoy the games, doodle feature, and themes though. I think it's pretty cool how your friends can see your personal theme when they message you - it gives it a little personality. And, like Arkkath, my primary email is linked to my MSN.

Personally, though, I like Skype better than them both. I don't know why. Something about it is just more clean and stream-lined.

Hm, a few of you are complaining about the AIM sounds. If they're that annoying, can't you just turn them off? I did.

I use a gmail, so I don't have the "linked convenience" thing,, nor do I have a webcam for Skype...

I hated the last update to msn so much that I uninstalled it completely and reconnected it on my Trillian account. In the end, Trillian kicks the shit out of both of them. Nice and neat all-in-one platform.

*cough* Trillian *cough* handle all your GoogleTalk,MSN,Yahoo,Skype, social media, and emails+POP in one system. Done and Done.

Another Trillian user here.

I think before I used it though, I leaned more on the side of AIM.

It is and then it isn't better. The big downside is it shows everyone your full name, and it doesn't have the drawing thing on it. You can still nudge people from what I can remember.

I really miss the older version, but I still stay semi-loyal to it. I think the next update or so might be Skype combined? :S Or is Skype it's own entity still (as in software)?

Unlike others, I used Yahoo! Messenger first.. It was what everyone found easier and most comforting for a while XD
Then I found MSN and started using it, was fun C: Then I had to get AIM to talk to a friend since he didn't have MSN. Ugh it pissed me off quite a bit! XD

A lot of my friend's downgraded their versions to where they can draw again and stuff. The drawing applet on MSN (in the older versions) does support pressure sensitivity as long as you have a tablet and the Windows Journal plug-in. xD

Trillian is something I remember hearing about though I've never checked it out.

Vix Viral 08-01-2011 12:14 AM

I love Trillian because I can have all of my accounts for just about everything open in a single client. Keeps things nice and neat.

IMs.

I like both AIM and MSN Messenger and I use them both, but I use AIM a bit more because my friends seem to use it more. I have always liked the little drawing feature on MSN Messenger though, it's fun. I do think the design of the program is a bit nicer looking than AIM as well.
