Most of my gaming friends - and I - agree that Alienware is hard to beat, if we're talking about the best and not factoring in the affordable. Because they're so high in performance, they're also VERY heavy. One of my super good guyfriends got an Alienware laptop for graduation and let me play Portal on it for a while. My lap was numb within about fifteen minutes.. it was every bit as heavy as the compact tower system I use - basically a squished PC that's supposed to be easier to pack up for LAN parties.

But the game... wow. I played it on the highest quality and experienced no lag at all. The fan in the thing is good enough that he pulls all-nighters all the time with no problems.

The worst... well, I'd say a mac.

I've got an Alienware deskop. The tower for it is huge!
I barely have room for it on my desk.

ASUS makes excellent gaming stuff too. Before my desktop, I used an ASUS gaming laptop for 3 years.

ibuypower.com is where I get all of my goods.

You can make your own computer with what kind of software and parts you want,

Versus buying an already-made computer with everything already chosen for you.

(Really, there's just more customization options than most.)

Plus, it's so much more cheaper than alienware and other mega-mainstream companies.

But that's just my personal taste. To each their own.

the thing with alienware is that the prices have skyrocketed and the parts are now cheaper as it is now owned by Dell. this is not such a bad thing and a gaming computer would still rock with Alienware... you are just paying for the name.
Id tell you to build your own computer, like i have, but if you do not have the means to do this (or the know how) Id recommend looking at these: Top 10 Performance Desktop PCs | PCWorld
If these are too out of your rang, you can check check if anyone in your area is selling theirs or something more like these sites: Newegg.com - Desktop PCs,gaming computer (newegg) or NCIX.com

Portal on high is cool but crysis two on full ;) oh baby... Im having a blast on Darkspore at the moment. Tried it on my laptop (really old + more for video editing) and it sucked... Good for you :P you wont regret getting a gaming laptop <3

edit:
if you want, PM me and ill send you the parts i used for my computer :)
it has 8gbs ram, 2gbs video grapics and is a sexy beast <3
mind you, i spared not a cent on this rig. It will last years and out preform anything :3 (it wasnt cheap i mean xD so depending on how much u are willing to pay... you could build ur own, or get it made or just get an alienware or whatever :P )

It really depends, I mean I had an ASUS for like eight months--it crapped out on me. Sony Vaio's aren't too shabby that's what I have currently and I love it, then again I started out with an old HP Desktop computer running Windows XP..which was actually quite interesting...
