The Sims (and other simulatory type games)

I was in a different thread, about cars actually and somehow we drifted into discussion about the sims. So her'es a better thread for discussing the Sims, and infact any other simulator type games.

Personally I only play the sims, at the moment I play the Sims 3 on the PC with no expansion packs but I have been eyeing up the 'night life' pack because apparently it has vampires in it and I just love vampires :'D

I beleive we were also talking about how stupid sims can be. O_O like they are REALLY stupid.

Anyway, yeah.

Gizensha 07-18-2012 07:40 PM

Supernatural expansion, when it comes out, will have a different sort of Vampire. Dunno what the difference will be (Though, it must be said, the way they implemented vegetarianism in vampires for Night Life is hilarious)

Huge fan of the management sim genre, though I play the sims for a very different reason to why I play stuff like Sim City, Startopia and... err... Viva Pinata. I play those to create something and solve often tricky (especially the story mode of Startopia) management challenges (Think the scenarios in Sim City that replicate real cities and problems). Not entirely sure why I keep going back to the Sims, really.

I have sim city for the DS and i never know what to do, i can never get the place running again I find it impossible. So I give up and retern to my cosey home with the sims on the PC :D

How did they impliment Vegitarianism? I never let my sims be veggies because i dont want them turning down the food in the house.

Whenever I play Sims I honestly feel very close to a mad scientist. Morals are now ambiguous and I'm free to perform psychological experiments while ethics takes a rather large back seat. My hidden desires, my desire for power and wrecking people's lives, can finally see daylight and cause havoc. If Sims could comment on my treatment (which they can't, I gagged them) they'd absolutely love me.

I think Sims might be some omen against cloning human beings. If we clone ourselves, the mentality of a Sim willbe what we get.

Sim City is another really fun simulator that I've always enjoyed.

Keo 07-18-2012 08:23 PM

I think i need to let you all in on a secret.
I have the mentality of a sim.
now someone tell me to use the toilet please!!

Admonish Misconstruction 07-18-2012 08:28 PM

Psshhh x3. I'll throw up a "I disagree" sign! Anyways, just use a skillet that's large enough.

I adore Sim City and similar city games. On the Steam Summer Sale Anno 2077, Cities XL, and Sim City 4 are up for the community choice sale. I've been wanting to play all three. I hope Anno 2077 wins!

Whenever I start building my city I always end up attracting a lot a debt (it just sort of shows up) and eventually my city's economy crashes rather horribly. To sort of 'reboot' my cities I've found that cutting spending is the quickest way to recover. I cut fire by half, nearly eliminate my police departments, roads by half, and eliminate every and any social service. You can't spend you way out of debt, but anyways. Your citizens will despise you, you will be hated, and a lot of your city will leave but you recover very quickly and in the long run it's the most effective.

...My confession is that I haven't been able to get into Sim City since the SNES version...

I miss the simplicity of it [cry]

In vampires, there's a blood fruit that vegetarians can drink from.

Generally it's just vegetarian versions of regular recipes that substitutes meat for general products.

Keo 07-18-2012 09:16 PM

Obviously the people who run both Britian and America have never played sim city, or atleast they are as good at playing it as I am. >.<

Oh blood oranges? That's a real fruit.

Gizensha 07-18-2012 09:19 PM

Not blood oranges, no, though those are delish.

Keo 07-18-2012 09:20 PM

Oh, so they invented a fruit, hm, how simlike.

I love reading through the sarcastic descriptions of the items you can buy for the hosues they're always so amusing. I love how the creators of The Sims don't take anything too seriously. :D

Admonish Misconstruction 07-18-2012 09:21 PM

Hehe. You have a very good point there ^^.

It takes a little bit of time to get into. As a kid Sim City 2000 was one of the few video games I had, and I played it rather religiously.

Keo 07-21-2012 08:58 AM

I think I played a lot of spyro the dragon. But Sonic was my first game on a saga megadrive. :D that was awesome.
My family ahve always been one step behind with gaming consoles.
when everyone got the PS we had a megadrive and then when the PS2 came out we got the PS1
we only just got the wii last year.
But we haven't bothered getting anything better than a PS2 because none of us really play on it much.

Admonish Misconstruction 07-22-2012 05:51 PM

Spyro the Dragon for the PS1? Gah, the memories. What a amazing game and the nostalgia is massive.

I wish I had a copy of Spyro, at least I still have a copy of Crash Team Racing and the original Resident Evil.

See, that way games are less expensive. You don't really have to wait for game releases for your console, they're already all out.

My folks were never too fond of video games, so I've had to fend for myself. I started out with a PS2. Last year I decided it I might as well take a swing at PC games. Best decision so far :D.

Keo 07-22-2012 06:33 PM

PC games are amazing O_O
I might invest ina new one for when i move out, I can imagine many nights allone after freshers week has calmed down.

i adore the sims.... im currently playing the sims 3 pets on xbox360... i was so happy when they finally released the sims 3 for the xbox360

Flowery Pit 10-20-2012 10:05 PM

I'm not really a fan of sims. It's so strange to me

I remember a neighbor of mine would always invite me over to play Sims together and she had this strange fondness of getting the heart beds that vibrated and always made her sims get into the hot tub together or in the beds.

Than I remember how the whole family wet themselves and were super fussy, and she raged quit.

Those are the first things I think of when I hear Sims.

Prince Vale 10-26-2012 04:01 PM

I basically live off of the Sims.
Especially now that I can be a witch.
I just go around casting curses and charms on half the town and curing zombies.
[love]

Maha-Aamir 11-06-2012 06:32 PM

I play The sims social on Facebook... its great and i really love my sim, She is cute :D

I just had a bit of a ragefit last night over the Sims.

I have some fond memories of the game back when I played it several years ago, so I decided to reinstall the game into my home computer last night because the other computer lagged horribly. Unfortunately, after I finished installing it and went to register online so I can download some user-made Sims and other objects (because the default Sims are rather ugly, to be honest), I'm met with the message of my registration code being 'already used'. I looked online for a way to solve this problem, but the only thing I can find was to either use a keygenerator (which didn't work), or to call in customer service and have someone fix it from the back end. (which, judging by the overwhelming amount of negative comments left on the site, wasn't working well)

Seriously, what the hell, EA Games? Do you think that people never get new computers? And why the fuck does your customer service suck so bad? I really do not want to have to make a long distance call overseas because the company of a game I already fucking bought sucks.

Cardinal Biggles 11-08-2012 08:26 AM

I think I accidentally deleted the sims from my computer, and as I downloaded it... I was thinking about contacting customer service, but... not very helpful, eh?

Antagonist 11-08-2012 10:41 AM

Yeah...and it's not just for the Sims either. I see a bunch of comments complaining about this game or that, how the people were slow and reluctant to respond to their problems, always telling them to wait for them to get back, then never contact them back despite the customers leaving their contact information. And if they pester, they'd patronize them and tell them to be more patient. It would've been pretty amusing to read them if I were not one of those customers.

Electronic Arts customer service phone numbers and support

Shizuku-chan 11-08-2012 04:00 PM

I played Sims 3 recently with the Supernatural expansion pack and random zombies keep popping up in my home lot D:
It was fun setting them on fire with my witch sim tho they don't seem to die. ^^
Well it seems like every time I play this game, I'd whip up some crazy stuff in game.
Once I hijacked a household in the vanilla game and turned them all into playable ghosts of different colours.
It gets boring but it was fun while it lasted though.

Grumman_Goose 11-10-2012 10:36 AM

Antagonist: the number of times I have spoken to EA is ridiculous as a whole the company sucks... I saw in a survey that they were rated as the worst company in the USA and they fucking deserve that title... they are nothing but money stealing arse wipes that only watts fill their pockets that much more.. my Sims stopped working and their customer support was quite frankly, shit. 14 times I spoke with them nothing worked... and Origin oh my actual Jesus... biggest piece of shit ever... why can they not just keep with steam like they have done a few years ago... because of this incident thatI've had with them I refuse to buy another of their products until they get their shit together...

Antagonist 11-10-2012 11:46 AM

Yeah. Definitely not buying anything from them ever again until they pull their shit together. This is ridiculous. :\

Aldetha 01-27-2013 10:09 AM

I like to play it though. Everytime I play something I always come back to The Sims, idk why >_>
