Interesting. Well I bought cards.
I got 15 cards for a dollar as a "grab bag" where you only see 2 of them. Got a cool card [boogie] Accorder's Shield.

Well, now even burn decks need some type of creature defense so that they do not get overpowered before they can deal their damage.

Yeah, it is normally around 20-creatures, 20-spells, 20-lands keeping as close to that with a high at 25 and a low at 15.
You can also make a 15 card side deck. After the first round, you can exchange cards from your side deck into your main deck to help you counter your opponent's deck. Then, after the game is won or loss, you switch the cards back so that you have your starting main deck and starting side deck.

There are also sub-categories that are just an extension of your psychographic profile:
Melvin and Vorthos

Timmy = Runs large cost, large power/toughness creatures and spells. He wins big and stomps his opponent.
Johnny = Runs cards that are not normally run in decks and builds creative decks. He prefers deck building above anything.
Spike = The competitive player who cares most about winning.
Vorthos = Liking the art.
Melvin = Analyzes and understands the cards.

Just for a simple summary. ^_^

The prettiness of the art is part of the Vorthos classification.
Vorthos and Melvin do not stand alone as separate, but rather are an extension.

So if you like building the decks more than anything and using the cards in unique combos, in addition to liking the art, then you would be Johnny Vorthos type. ^_^

Pair that with http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Default.aspx to find cards. Here you can search specific types and sets in the Advanced search. It is super helpful!

There is a place where you can get 15 cards for $1, so I will probably start building a basic deck from those over time... perhaps if I get a job I will get one of those $20 tubs of cards (has like 500+ cards)... surely I could make a deck from that right?

I have made some pretty fun Common type decks from just the common rarity type.

My hubby i think is a Spike mainly, though seriously analyzes the cards like Melvin. And has the need to to stomp by a large amount like Timmy (the child aspect it mentions) but he doesn't like large costs unless its a particularly awesome card that's worth it.

He really likes winning so I'm gonna say he's probably a Spike. Though I think it was Johnny that uses it as a social thing. That is definitely a big thing for us.

Me... I'm complicated. I'd say I'm mainly a Johnny? I find a card i personally find interesting, and than build a deck around it. I enjoy the building of the deck, and the art more than the playing. When I play I love winning, but only if i'm winning a bunch already. Otherwise I just enjoy trying out my decks.
I have a bit of Timmy? I think. Because i do have a deck that's build around the angel that doesn't allow your opponents to win, or you to lose as long as its in play. And its heavy on equipement to make it invincible. And than backed up by soliders. It's not a perfect deck. But when it hits it hits so hard.

Apparently the cards in those tubs are 100% random... so it wouldn't just be commons o.o

oh i'm not saying just common decks are bad. I'm saying if your playing decks that aren't also just common, you may have a very difficult time. At least winning.
also if its an all blue deck.. just commons...
just cards that make other cards not play
and very few creatures >.<

I really feel horrible for my friend who i think i scared off of magic because of his all common blue deck...

If you try to play a noncommon deck with commons...

Blue decks... ehh... not too much a fan of them. Tried one in a mtg tactics game...

Yeah, the just common decks are meant to be played against other just common decks.
My favorite common only that I made is blue/white/black deck that recalls. It is so much fun to drop them for their ability, recall them with a cheap spell, and play them again and again for their abilities! And I can take damage from other decks because one of the cards is 1 white mana and it gives me 3 life every time I drop her. ^_^
I also have a green Stomp common only deck with big creatures and spells

Yep, it can be. ^_^ It is tons of fun to play with and uses lots of neat combo options.

My favorite cards are the +x/+x cards... I like making stuff stronger :3
And I see a ton of those in white cards. Though I see them in the forest cards too as well.

Yeah, but those bonuses can be removed if the card gets exiled.

And oooo that sounds like a brilliant deck of fun. I enjoy good decks that are interesting. Which id why i. Will never go tournament... i do not own a standard deck. Nor do i really form standard decks.

I think it is the Johnny in us. The love of deck building and interesting card combinations. ^_^ Makes it just so much fun to spend hours working on decks and testing them out.

My goblin deck is evil fun that way. :D i just pump out goblin fodder with dirststrike ...crap... thingy allows to attack on first turn played... with goblin general? Giving them massive +x/+x

Haste allows creatures to attack the first turn. ^_^
