Visual novels, anyone~??

hey there mene~ > u <

my first thread in forever and i decided to make it
about something i really really love~ o u o

so! how do you feel about visual novels~? o 3 o
do you think they're video games?

if you feel they are, why do you feel that? what
are your most favorite ones~? o u o

if you feel they aren't, then what about games like
beyond too souls that are pretty much glorified cut
scenes~?? o 3 o

o u o i personally feel that they are video games
because they are a visual medium, but they're also
interactive. o 3 o while they may not have as many
options nor a battle system, they're just as immersive~
> u <

my favorite visual novels so far have all come from
nitrol + chiral, main dramatical murder and lamento.
o 3 o i'm more of a BL visual novel fan~ = u =

but what about yooou~?? and your experiences and
such~ > u <

Ohh! I tried to get into Visual Novels a while back! The only one I played all the way through and have gotten most of the endings for is Ever17, but I am a fan of this niche! I'm not into the hardcore romance or yaoi/hentai anything :( :( That kind of disturbs me, but I do love them! They are unique and most of the time are captivating and/or thought provoking!

If you want a fabulous visual novel. You need to try Umineko no Naku Koro ni - When the Seagulls Cry- Its a murder mystery with touches of magic. I'm on the 8th episode, an up til now it's been a fun story as the main character tries to figure out if someone in his family is killing the rest of the family, or if it's the fault of a witch, but now in the last story the magic is gone, so I need to find out who the killer is. They actually give the reader puzzles and clues and you need to find out the proper end to the story.
It's like...WHOA! Awesome ^.^

Another good one is called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni -When the Cicadas Cry-. It's done by the same developer as Umineko- 07th Expansion- and it's another murder mystery but no magic. Science and folk-belief in curses. It's very human. It's pretty good. I liked Umineko better just because of the magic element.

Both also have an anime version and manga version which don't come anywhere close to the mind blowing layout of the visual novel.

Visual novels.. they aren't video games to me. They're taking the best points about books and movies and combining in a flawless structure. I get the interactive bit kinda seems like they're related to a video game. But for me, it's closer to a slideshow movie with subtitles... actually thats pretty much what it is.... but way cooler sounding....

I just got into visual novel games this year. I've been playing through the fairly small selection of games available for android. Most of the ones I've found so far are otome games, particularly from a company called Voltage. A friend of mine turned me on to them and I got hooked. You have to pay seperately for each character route, unfortunately, so they've been making a sizable dent in my wallet. XD I've totally fallen for some of the charscters I've played through though, so it's been worth it. [lol]

And yeah, I do think of these sorts of things as games. It varies from game to game, but they have enough of an interactive element to qualify as games to me. [yes]
