Oh dear. Hopefully some blue players will pop up soon!
When I first stated playing, it didn't seem like there were any active players in my area. When I started claiming things around town though, a few popped out of the woodwork to put me in my place, lol.
Haha yeah. Well, all those green portals should give you some good loot when you hack them, and it will give you a chance to practice with building mind fields and stuff like that. :)
I have this one nearby church portal that has a daycare going out front all day, and after dark it's just.. a church, after dark. The portal is placed such that you have to walk right up to the front of the building and stand there.. Looks so bad, no matter when I go. Do I want to be a creeper who photographs little children with my phone, or someone scoping out an empty building in the dark?
If you want more than one key to a portal (to make a field or whatever), you can do one of two things.
The old skool way: Hack your portal, then drop your key on the ground, after the required 4 minute time slot passes, hack your portal again. You will probably get another key. Then pick up your first key. *Remember try to drop your key away from the center of the portal so it is easier to pick up.
The newer way: If you have a capsule, the items in your capsule will not "register" as gear you own. So you can hack a portal and get a key, put the key in your capsule, and then after the 4 minute window, hack your portal again. Loading keys into a capsule is a bit of a PITA, so you may not want to do this, but if you are going to do fields with multiple layers, this may be a good way to do it.
Info on hacking a portal: If you hack a portal that is your team color, you will get better gear (in theory, I am not sure about this). If you hack a portal that is not your team's color, you will get AP (experience points toward leveling up) and you will get gear. The enemy portal will also attack you and take a bit of your MP (energy). I see it as a no lose situation to hack enemy portals. You get gear and experience. So WIN!
Making a portal yours:
If a portal is grey and you put a resonator on it, it becomes yours. Where you physically stand makes a difference in deployment. The closer you are to the portal, the closer your resonators will be. Strategically it is better to have your resonators as far away as possible so it is harder for them to be blasted off. So you want to be as far away from the portal as you can while still being in "range" to deploy. Sometimes I place one resonator close by, so if someone is using an "ultrastrike" to knock my shields/mods off my portal, I get notifications and can start recharging on them.
If a portal is owned by the opposite team, you have to blast the resonators off it to make it grey before you can make it yours. This is where bursters, ultra strikes, and the ultimate weapons Jarvis/Ada comes into play.
If the portal belongs to your team, and you see that it has low level resonators on it, you can "upgrade" the portal. So if the resonators are level 1, and you are a level 5, you can toss your 5s, 4s, etc. on top of the already existing resonators to make the portal a higher level. =D
I am not a fan of these fake "agents" RBFLY and her sister "RENEGADE" because it is so fabricated, but the videos have some good info in them.
