I'm usually not one for scary games either, but the game is definitely NOT scary. :)

I like scary... but I'm very bad at modern games and get spazzy easily. I spent most of my childhood with platformers and simple 3D games like Mario. No first person games at all. And then I didn't have money to keep up with newer games, so first person games are unplayable for me and modern 3rd person games (like, say, the Arkham games - where the camera is very close to the player rather than high above like in Mario or Zelda - basically, I'm awful at non-Nintendo games) are really, really difficult for me. Then add in the fact that I've never done much computer gaming, only console gaming, thus the controls are not at all easy for me to get down. So the end result is that I'm awful at modern computer games. Throw in something scary to stress me out, and I'm an absolute mess.

What are your favourite scary games?
Because of exchange rates and earned money going to things with greater priority, I depend a lot on ftps, gifts and free keys from people. Very rarely if I'm really desperate for a game and it's on sale, I would offer a commission piece for them instead of having to pay from my end.

The only scary games I've actually played are Silent Hill 2 and Alan Wake. I haven't gotten very far into Alan Wake, but it seems cool. Silent Hill 2, though, is easily in my top 5 favorite games. It's fantastic. I haven't played the other SH games, but I've watched youtube playthroughs so I know the stories. Also excellent games.

Silent Hill is a great series!
It has both visual and psychological horror, and I was too chicken to play it without company. Then again, the same thing happened with Fatal Frame. I've not played Alan Wake, though.

I'm not a big fan of scary games. <:3c I couldn't even come close to finishing any of the Dead Rising games, despite being quite comical. Though, I've watched a lot of let's plays of scary games! I've seen most of the Silent Hill games played; my favorite was Silent Hill 3. :3c

SH3 was cool, but the ending got a little crazy.
I'm much more into psychological horror than jump scares. SH has jump scares, but it's the psychological horror that's the driving factor and I like that. And the monster design is always so neat! I love how they always subtly reflect elements of the protag's* psyche.
* Well, I mean, most of the time. SH1 was based on Alessa, not Harry. But you get what I mean.

I wasn't a fan of Harry, especially in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. <:3c He was kind of a jerk and made a lot of questionable decisions with his life. :u

Very true! Though I think Shattered Memories didn't have that much variation with its endings.

I would have to rewatch them to compare and contrast. I don't recall if the basic details (about what Harry was like) were all the same and it was just the spin that was different, or if any had any vastly different implications.

Soon, though!
What are your impressions of the games you've started so far?

My wallet agrees with you. The poor thing is still recovering. It's a fantastic game but there's so much lost potential. It is so irksome x3.
BioShock Infinite isn't as scary as the first two titles. You don't feel as enclosed and claustrophobic as you are running around under the waves in Rapture. In the first two BioShocks you'd hear the enemies crawling around, humming, and making noise but you wouldn't always know where they were. In a dark confined space that could get intense. Infinite is very bright and open and realizes it. It doesn't go for the same sort of scare. It can be somewhat disturbing at times. It's amazing though, I hope you two enjoy it. It's no scarier than the Arkham games. I can't wait for the new one.
I've played some of AoE, BioShock, English Country Tune, FC3 Blood Dragon, Insurgency, L.A. Noire, Papers, Please, and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. I've already played half of the games on console (except for AoE which I've been playing for a decade.)
AoE II HD was a massive disappointment. It runs terribly and doesn't seem to have any optimization. The original AoE runs better and that was released in 1999. I have a pretty decent rig and it suffers from massive frame rate drops. I'm sticking with the original for playing with friends. It has already been out a year and even though it gets regular patches they haven’t released a good optimization patch. I doubt it ever will.
I beat BioShock originally on the Xbox 360 and it's been a lot of fun playing through it again. Even now it looks and feels spectacular. I know you said your boyfriend isn't into scary games but the atmopshere, visuals, story, and voice acting are amazing.
I've only played a few levels of English Country Tune but it is a competent and enjoyable puzzle game; great for the laptop when I only have a few minutes.
FC3 Blood Dragon is hilarious and lathers you up in some 80s nostalgia. The tone is comical, stereotypical, and hilarious. The game knows what it is and it is executed perfectly.
Insurgency is by far my favorite competitive PC multiplayer shooter to date. If I were to include consoles I think Halo 3 would be the only real competitor. It is realistic enough to make me feel a rush but arcade enough to make it easily accessible. There's some truly nerve wracking moments and racking up a good KD takes a lot of hard work and patience; very rewarding.
L.A. Noire has all of the problems of the console. 30 fps locked, clunky firing controls, draw distance issues, popping textures, and so on. Still, it's a ton of fun. It has a ton of unused potential but it really does fit in a class on its own. Plus I have a thing for noire films and 50s cars.
I haven't played a whole lot of Papers, Please but my girlfriend became obsessed with it. Very simple premise but it is executed amazingly well. It is depressing, nerve-racking, and fantastic. It does so much with so little; reminds me of Thomas Was Alone in that regard.
XCOM: Enemy Unknown has been enjoyable, though I only have three hours in it. I like turn based strategies and the XCOM series in general. Very polished and well thought out. I wonder how the multiplayer worked out.
