I can't believe that no one's made a topic about this yet!
And I'm writing this as people are playing SSB Melee. xD

Anyway, anyone have any great victory or losses they want to share? Wins in a tournament?

Also, feel free to discuss the upcoming Brawl! What characters you like that are going to be new, what ones you would like to make an appearance, and anything else.

Oh, and of course, your favorite characters to kick ass with. :3

I personally like Marth. <3

• I only got to play Melee when I was out with friends since I never had a GameCube of my own, and I never played at the conventions, 'cause I don't like to embarass myself publicly.
  
  I usually pick Peach when I'm playing with my friends. She's a true underdog, much like the Ice Climbers and Mr. Game & Watch. So when my friends and I do a tournie, and we're down to the last two(me and my friend that has owned the console and game since day one), we always call it a draw because I'm more of a tactical fighter--using the items around me to set traps and the like-- whereas she's all up front using Roy.
  
  Different people play in different ways, and when those styles differ to greatly, there's no real fun in the game, I guess.
  
  I really like doing the story mode-ish stuff. And I cannot wait for Brawl since I do have a Wii. I'm curious to see how it'll be controlled and the like. >w<

Fox is cool, but I keep forgeting how fast he falls.

Mewtwo's fun, but doesn't have the oomph I want.

Shiek is kickass. She's making her way to my favorite's list.

I like to play as Roy occasionally because everyone else likes Marth better.

I too dabble in playing Roy. Sometimes it works out to my advantage, but I like Marth more. It's odd, because people tell me that Marth is the faster one, but I always pick Roy because he attacks faster. o_o I just found out that I was wrong. xD Oh well.

Of course fox is cheap. He's... fox.

I used to play him a lot, but I fell outta touch with him.

Heheh. I think they should make Roy stronger in this next one. Level things out a tad. Because Marth has that extra range at the edge of his sword... thing.

I've only played SMB Melee.
It was fun while I played it.
Had good high scores on the game, on most tournaments.
Even when I beat the game, It's still fun to just keep on fighting against the computer.

Pikachu is my favorite from the first game, simply because he is not only fast but against the glove he's unstoppable. In Melee I like to be Roy or Zelda.

I'm a little disappointed in the characters for the upcoming version. They have some good ones and some that are just ridiculous. I'm not too impressed with Snake being there, I don't know why, I mean, I know they redid the game on Gamecube but he doesn't fit in with the crowd. I also don't like Pit, or that Kirby villian. Wario and sexy outfit Samus are good choices. I think everyone's disappointed that Sonic isn't anywhere, since those rumours have been going around since before Melee's time. Sonic, Tail and Knuckles would have made excellent new characters to the team.

Fox and Falco are my favorite. :D

True, they aren't Nintendo characters... but, she's got a point.
Snake's there and he's not a nintendo character by a long shot. There have been tons of Sonic games on only Nintendo consoles. I've heard rumours about Sonic characters for years now, since before the last version came out.

Yeah, but honestly... sonic's not as popular as it used to be... I mean, to me, the games seem to be going downhill. You wanna play a real sonic game? get a hold of sonic & knuckles... THAT is a true masterpiece.

anyway, I do have to admit that snake does seem a bit out of place... but you have to remember that the ORIGINAL Metal Gear was on the nintendo system (I know, hard to believe, isn't it?), whereas sonic was ORIGINALLY a SEGA character... and would be even MORE out of place than snake.

You are right about Metal Gear. I personally think both Sonic and Snake are equal in their claim to a spot in a Super Smash Bros game.

And yes, they aren't that popular, but they are still making tons of games. Personally, I loved Tail's Adventure.

It just feels like the cast for this new game is a little disappointing. I was just expecting something more, something that I'd say, "Wow cool!" But none of them are doing it for me, except Wario I suppose, but I just hope they don't make him just a slow Mario.

Just sounds like they ran out of character ideas to me. At any rate, sonic is an Nubcomer to the nintendo system, and thus, snake would correctly take precedence in this matter.

I'm not saying he belongs... just that he has a higher claim than any sonic character... even if it's just by a small bit.

Also, I think Sega screwed up when they decided to make shadow cooler than sonic. :roll:

A good buddy of mine and I play this game obsessively.

We've been playing for years, and our two Gamecube Mem-Cards have a combined play time of over 3,000 hours. Essentially...that's 125 days of our lives that we've spent playing this damn game. xDDD

I'll wager we two are the best in town, and I've faired extremely well in out-of-town tournaments, Ross even won a big-time tournament over in Reno Nevada.

We're hoping to find a way to get high-quality recordings of our battles on the games. We tend to play not to the games music, but to our own Orchestrated choices.

Among the favorite fighting OSTS are:

"Advent Angel" from Final Fantasy - Advent Children
"Requiem for a Dream" by Clint Mansell
"Epicon" by Immediate Music
"Super Smash Bros Brawl Main Theme"

I'm best with Princess Zelda, and I rarely, if ever use Sheik. My gaming reflexes are decent enough that I can make Zelda as fast as Sheik with little effort. xD

My other bests are:

Falco, Gannondorf, Captain Falcon, Marth, Roy, Mewtwo, Young Link.

Ross is a monster with Samus. Our Zelda VS Sammie Matches are a real site to behold.

I'm rambling right now. Lack of sleep. xD

Right...we can't wait for Brawl. With it's Online play...ooh there will be alot of fun to be had. =]

Regarding Sonic - Nintendo had reportedly sent a request to Sega asking permission, however they were waiting to hear back from Sega. Sonic was the single most in demand character of all the ones requested.

An unconfirmed source claims that Brawls Director said the Hedgehog was 100% included in the upcoming game.

I agree with Gabriel up here, I will be very surprised if Sonic does not make it into the game.

After seeing them making this game, I do believe that Sonic has a very high chance of getting in the next SSBB.

And yes, I do agree with what other people have said, Sonic games have not been good lately-I still have to try the Wii one, I heard the one for PS3/XBOX 360 was not good at all.

But I do hope he gets included in the game. I am a Sonic fan after all, and I really like SSB.

By the way, in Melee I use Zelda-not Sheik, I dislike how heavy she is, and I prefer Zelda's strong attacks and other skills.

I'm more accustomed to playing SSB for the N64. It's still in great working condition! When I did play, I used Kirby and Pikachu a lot. I don't know if it's me or not, but did Kirby get a lot lighter in SSBM?

I play SSBM whenever I'm at my boyfriend's. I'm usually Roy/Marth or Pikachu. Sheik's too fast for me and I usually end up running out of the arena hahaha XDD

Yes, Kirby was much better on the first SSB. Now he falls off the stage too fast? I mean, he can be lighter, but it's easier to beat him.

I REALLY hope they include him in Brawl. I would use him a lot. Him and Zelda, if they make her kinda like the last one, we will have to see (I don't know how the Zelda from Twilight Princess is, since I have not finished the game, so I still have to see if I would like to play as her, since I do believe that is the Zelda we are getting).

And I hope Shadow doesn't make it to Brawl, if Sonic does, that's it. I am disappointed with what they have done to him. He was ok/good until they gave him James Bond's gun. =(

• I use Roy most of the time. If he's not unlocked yet when I play it [ I don't have the game, just play over friends' house :B ] then I usually choose Fox, Falco, or Link. :3
  

I love Melee, and is it any surprise I use Marth? XD;;; Actually around here, Roy is usually the popular choice. I love Marth because he is a prince, and I always call him my "ojisama" <3<3

Next one I use is Shiek/Zelda (Usually Shiek more than Zelda, but I change it up)

And lastly, I use Peach. Why? Because she kicks some major ass when she gets a hold of that star baton thingy. XD;;;

Though ever since I had that challenge between Young Link and Link, I like to use mini Link sometimes too. :3

You know who I think would be pretty cool to add to Brawl? Midna
She's such a cool addition to Twilight Princess. <3

Mm...I did not know about that Olympics game. That's basically the seal then. Sonic will be in Brawl.

Midna would be a fantastic addition, she's the co-star in the immensely popular Twilight Princess, and her true form could be a variation on Princess Zelda's style.

I'm especially enjoying the fact that Master Hand has gone through the detentions to retrieve our beloved characters.

The characters don't share the adorable cutesy appearances that they did in Melee, they are their own design. As I just completed Twilight Princess, I remember taking a moment while gazing at Princess Zelda to say "I'm going to kick SOOO much ass with you."

As far as Pokemon go in the new game, I expect Mewtwo will make a triumphant return.

As for new Pokemon, there are a few that I'm pulling for. Deoxys especially.

With it being the main feature in a Pokemon Movie, it's human-like appearance, and it's form-swapping abilities, I'd wager it might just make it into the game. I'm crossing my fingers.

As for some other likely Pokemon candidates,

Gardevoir - Being a powerful human-shape psychic type, and the fact that Sakurai, in an early Brawl interview mentioned that the Pokemon stood out to him when presented with a list of possible fighting Pokemon in the new game.

Alongside Gardevoir, though it's chances of being in the game are slim to none, the new Evolution of Kirlia, Gallade, with it's humanshape and Psychic/Fighting type, it COULD possibly be a canidate? Bah, wishful thinking on my part.

All in all, if a 4th Gen Pokemon will be included in the fighting arena, I'll wager that Lucario, being the star of a Movie, and one of the primary spoiler Pokemon for the 4th Generation, with the addition of it's Steel/Fighting type and basic humanshape, it could possibly be another candidate.

Again...likely wishful thinking on my part.

I'm mostly just rooting for Pokemon, but there are a few other Characters I wouldn't mind seeing.

Wolf O'Donnell - AKA StarWolf. Fox's number-one rival. I wouldn't mind seeing an even burlier version of Falco come into play in this character.

I'm simply hoping that the Twilight Princess characters will keep their appearances. Gannondorf is amazing looking in TP, and I would just LOVE to bust out a Warlock Punch with him. xD

You are not rambling, I just hope I didn't get spoiled by reading some of the things about TP xD

But anyways, in the first trailer (the only one I have seen, dunno if there is more) Link looks like he does in TP, so I think they will keep their looks. Which is good, because then Snake wont look like so much of an outcast. xD

And yay for Sonic. I really hope he goes into the game. Like, totally.

Every Smash-Bros fan in the world must be awaiting any sort of update of the main site.
