Final Fantasy Dirge of Cerberus :3

HEY WHO LOVED THIS GAME???!!!!

Did anyone see the special ending? it comes AFTER all the credits and is WORTH searcing for the files to watch X3

I thought the game was okay. It had a LOT of problems, though:

The gameplay mechanic was achingly simple for a shooter or action/adventure game. Felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be.

The story didn't really add much to Vincent's character or to the FFVII mythology. I enjoyed some of what they added, but a majority was convoluted and repetative.

Gackt. His music was totally inappropriate for the game, didn't mesh into the soundtrack at all, and was only used to sell the game to weabos. Plus, modeling Vincent and "G" after him? Lame. Sqaure, you're bigger than a popstar. Don't cater to them.

I haven't completed the extra missions because I got bored with it, but I have seen the ending videos ripped.

Overall, it was fun, but it wasn't nearly as good as it should've been for an offshoot of FFVII and far to expensive for how short it was. Now, if they did a separate game for some of the other characters and learned from their mistakes here ... man, that'd be a lucrative franchise. Just don't beat a dead horse and make games solely for money. Make them worth playing.

Squarenix just tried at a first-person shooter and failed. A game with bad gameplay AND a bad story, or in this case addition to another story, has nothing for me. I mean, when a game is worse than it's N64 ancestors (ie, games like Perfect Dark or Goldeneye, who really set the bar) you know that something's wrong. Yes, different company, but those games are so old now that I expect at least equal gameplay if not better from companies making games nowadays.

Kooky 04-10-2007 02:13 AM

I think it had the potential to be a great game. it fails on MANY levels though. this coming from a diehard finaly fantasy 7 fan. xD so all i say is honest. i HATE the camera, it moves way too slow. the game is rediculously simple. Final Fantasy 7 was hard, but this game puts Final Fantasy to shame on that level. like i said. it couldve been a great game. but i think Square pushed the relase too soon. many bugs too

Marguerite Blakeney 04-10-2007 05:45 AM

I don't see why everyone complains about it -- from almost EVERYONE I've talked to, I've heard that within the first TWO minutes of the game they instantly give up. Well I haven't bought it yet but I want to, and I really wanna try it so hey. Unfortunately neither of the two stores I get games at sells the game anymore, so like, what??

I dunno how an FPS on PS2 would work but I'm willing to try. I wanna get DoC instead of XII.

Phareas 04-10-2007 08:56 AM

I haven't played it yet I'm hoping to get it out from the video store shortly though. My friend has it and said its good and knowing Square-enix it has to be a reasonable games I never played a game of there's that I haven't like yet

XII is literally 10 times the game as DoC. There's that much more too it. Consider renting DoC first, and this is from someone who's played it all the way through. It's just not worth anything more than $20, and then only if you plan ahead to do all the special missions.

Tatiana Celeste 04-10-2007 07:59 PM

Yeah I got partway through it and just started to get bored with it. And as many people have mentioned the camera can get very irritating

Aeris 04-11-2007 04:51 AM

I got this game for Christmas, but I haven't touched it. I'm slightly scared of it.

So many bad things I've heard about this game! Some of my friends redeemed it slightly, but I was playing Xenosaga III and that got me too into it. XD;;

GainaSpirit 04-11-2007 10:14 AM

I only heard bad ting about this game and saw someone playing... the game control was horrible O.o The only great thing was the movie >.<;

  • I was the one that pretty much talked Victor into getting the game, even though we both had reserved it just because it was a Final Fantasy title, and we had higher hopes for it.

Sure, I only actually played through the training sequence, but watching the more action-y parts of the game, and hearing how many foul words were coming out of his mouth because something was programmed terribly within the game from Victor made me really not want to play it. I mean, I was pretty much asleep through most of the game because it was that boring between the story clips, to me anyway.

As far as the whole Gackt thing goes, that truly is just sad, because at the end of the game, when the song is one of Gackt's, it was truly inappropriate for the mood that needed to be set. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't want to listen to JPop when I'm fighting the very last boss in the game--I want to hear something dramatic!! Like when you play against Kefka or the third form of Sephiroth, and even like when you're fighting Ultimecia. Involving him in the FFVII story(of all stories) was the biggest mistake that Square has made because yes, it was purely to sell more copies to the goddamn weeaboos. Dx

Hungry_Wolf 04-11-2007 06:09 PM

It was alright, The only real redeeming factor was the wonderful CG sequences and seeing Vincent's Cerberus Revolver in action was cool. And I didn't mind Weiss..regardless if they just used him as a excuse to put Hojo back in the game. I thought the DG thing was sort of neat.

Buckwheat Noodles 04-11-2007 07:03 PM

I've played the game through to the end, and seen the secret ending.

While the game does indeed have a lot of parts that could have been improved upon, I enjoyed it. I normally don't touch first persn shooters with a ten foot pole because I'm bad at them, but I got past each level with at least a C or a B. *Nods* I liked the cutscenes, of course.. and the voice acting was pretty good. Oh, and if you're a fan of Vincent Valentine, then you'll enjoy fangirling over how cool he is in this game. xD Same for if you're a fan of Reeve, though really, Reeve is sooo Vincent's woman in this game. *Snerks*

I forgot how buggy the game was. And how all the "combat" was all just rote memorization because the game is so linear. Like those bullshit Time Crisis games ... that guy's going to pop out THERE now, and now there, then there. Always the same because you can't go in any other direction. Plus, most of the boss battles (especially the final boss fight and Rosso!) were just plant and shoot! You didn't even have to move, just pull the trigger and yawn.

Otohime 04-11-2007 07:45 PM

Played it, beat it, thought it was ok.

But I only payed $20 for it, so whatever.

I liked Reeve, but Cait Sith did (and still does) annoy the crap out of me. Why in god's name, if you can create a puppet duplicate OF YOURELF would you run around as an idiot cat with a Scots accent? Not only that, but how important IS Reeve that he needs all these doubles? He just has a creppy doll/furry fetish, doesn't he? *shudders*

EmoKillerLol 04-12-2007 02:45 AM

lol i pasted that game in a week ;D

!WeirdBlueOne! 07-01-2007 02:44 AM

I liked it. I didn't like upgradeing weapons thing though. For me it was too expensive but that was only because i spent my money on health stuff  . I was horrible.

`Mel 07-06-2007 12:18 PM

I love Vincent Valentine, so naturally I loved the game XD
I just hated HOW short the game was, and his little love affair with Lucretsia.
I wish they had more of a History with VINCENT alone & his dad rather then taking up half of the game with some Dead chick, who I could care LESS about >______>

Sassandra 07-08-2007 03:59 PM

the game confused me and i got bored with it. sorry. not what you wanted to hear. although i loved the graphics.

Fin 10-12-2007 04:18 PM

It was nice to see more of Vincent, Yuffie, and Reeve but that was about all I enjoyed about it. I bought the game when it came out, played it, and didn't enjoy it. The graphics were OK but definitely not as exciting because I had already seen it all in Advent Children and the actual game-play wasn't all that great. Square tried something new and it didn't work. Anyway, the story and the villains were kind of a joke. Sorry but after Sephiroth I can only find myself taking Deep Ground but so seriously.

Ruui 10-13-2007 06:50 PM

I remember before playing the game,I would listen to it's theme song "Redemption" by Gackt over and over. Good artist ='D

Sparkle 10-13-2007 07:31 PM

I really don't understand Square's motivation in make a game like this. A shooter? Stick to your day job square and continue making RPGs. This game did not live up to Final Fantasy VII. Not that it had a chance though.

Dirge of Cerberus is Vincent's "Story" revolving around VINCENT so I can see Square making a shooter because his weapon is a GUN.It's still a RPG either way.

I understand that, but there were other ideas that could have made a better game instead of using Vincent. Bottom line: Square got a little experimental and it just didn't work out very well at all.
