Dynasty Warriors
 

Anyone enjoy this game? Its pretty much a hack and slash, but I was surprised by how addicted I became after grabing a copy.

You really get attached to some of the characters, my favourite is Zhao Yun.

What do you like about the game?

That game is the perfect PMS game.

Though methinks I prefer Samurai Warriors. It has Date Masamune. ;o; <3

But in Dynasty Warriors, my favorite character is probably the great and mighty CAO CAO. I so love the Wei army to pieces. ;o; Sima Yi used to be my favorite, but they pooed him up in 5. And I cried. Cao Pi is freaking amazing too, even though in actuality he was the biggest and ugliest prick to exist.

After that comes the Shu army, and with them my favorite is either Zhuge Liang or Ma Chao. Ma Chao's so stupidly male that I can't help but love him.

Wu army I'm not as fond of, but Lu Meng and Ling Tong definitely rawk my world.

And of the unaligned people... Um. Yuan Shao? He looks too much like my dad though, so playing him was creepy. D:

It's such a historically inaccurate game. But I love it anyways.

I like the Wei kingdom in Romance of the Three Kingdoms series, but I'm not too fond of the in DW for some reason. I agree, they've made Cao Pi way too cool, and they've made Sima Yi look hideous ^^;;

I don't like what they did with Ma Chao, all his justice ramble is seriously starting to annoy me XD I don't like Zhuge Liang's musou, I prefer Sima Yi over him.

Totally agreed on Lu Meng and Ling Tong, Lu Meng is totally hot XD

Oh, but Ma Chao has some of the best lines in DW4.

"I AM THE SWORD OF JUSTICE! D< -angrily brandishes his spear-"

Sima Yi was seriously badass in DW4, though. And his voice was hot. Amazingly, his VA in that game also did Zhuge Liang. Why the hell they changed it in DW5 is beyond me. It sucks so bad. D:

And yes. Lu Meng is one sexy badass mofo.

Also, Zhang He is so hilariously gay in the series. xD And pretty. And full of butterflies.

Zhou Yu is my favorite character <3 Always play with most of the Wu players =o
I was soooo obsessed with him I went on Google many years back and learned as much as I could about him >_>

But as time passed that knowledge was lost and I'm too lazy to get into any of that again xD

@Tonn: Zhou Yu is my favourite in history, he doesn't take my fancy in DW though, they made him too feminine for my liking. If you are interested in his background, I can blab it out for you if you like XD

@Alegretto: If its a ironic/over dramatic effect you are looking for, the Ma Chao is your man XD
Oh yeah, that VA is so talented, the voices sounded so different, and yet so good. The Qiaos also has the same VA, I admire her for producing 2 distinctly squaky voices. *dies*

I feel so sorry for Zhang He, then I laugh at him for being so ridiculous XD Good amusement value, but the real Zhang He must be rolling in his grave ^^;;

I have this game for the PS2. I think I have Dynasty Warriors 4. >.o

I really enjoy it, and I agree: It's very addicting for just a hack and slash game.

I don't really have any preference in characters, I usually alternate. :3

I have DW5, and I love it to pieces... especially when I get the urge to kill things, heh. Like I think Alegretto said, it's one of the best PMS games out there. You can kill thousands of peasants within one round! Where's the downside?

My favorite characters.. oh man, there are so many. I favor Jiang Wei, though. Aaand Ma Chao, Cao Pi, and Zhao Yun. Basically, if they use a spear or javelin, I use them. xD I can't help it! They're all cute and awesome and full of win!

And I can make jokes about their spears, but hey, that's just a minor bonus. *Coughs*

Anyway, my one complaint about the game are the voices. They're awwwful. They make me want to cry. If only they could keep the Japanese voices available like they did for DW3... Oh well.

More than just the voices, its their pronounciation of each others' names, its all wrong! Ugh. The worst part is they still pronounce it totally wrong in Japanese. I cringe everytime I hear Cao Pi pronounced as Cow Pee.

Killing Peassants are extremely fun, unleash your dark side! XD

Do you mean Lu Bu? Yeah, he's supposed to be the best dueler in that period, he dueled the three brothers all at once to a tie. I always try to run when I see him XD

Meh. Lu Bu was pretty weak in 4 and 5 when you weren't controlling him. Otherwise, though... He got the nickname of "OH FUCK. IT'S LU BU! RUN RUN RUUUUN!" for a reason. He was one of the toughest things ever in the older games. But he was so fun when he was hard. My brother and I always strung together the best attack combos and patterns. It rocked.

Dynasty Warriors used to be my favorite game series, and even now still holds a very special place in my heart. The character designs were wonderful, the storyline massive (and later very educational) and nothing makes an 8 hour shift of being yelled at at work better than hacking and slashing through a bunch of nameless, faceless warriors. Hurrah!

@Alegretto: That reminds me of something, Xiao Qiao is a monster when the computer is playing her. I didn't even know she was supposed to appear in that senario, since I hardly ever see her around. She killed my Zhao Yun in a few seconds x.x

When I try to play her I find her too hard to control, but the computer seems to get it perfect >.<

@Bippy: You can definately really get into it. I find myself yelling at the characters sometimes XD;;

Yeah. Both Qiaos are kind of tricky to handle at first, but once you get int he groove with them they can be real wrecking machines. I just can't stand Xiao Qiao's voice, so I avoid her when at all possible.

But then again, all the female characters in that game grate on me one way or another.

I just don't get why they like to give the characters annoying or squeaky voices. Maybe the Japanese find squeaky voices cute, but very few English people do, at least make the english voices more mature. Also, the Qiaos need to be a few years older, whenever I play as Sun Ce I feel like a pedophile *dies*

I don't mind playing as Zhen Ji, because its such a novelty to be whacking generals with a flute.

Dynasty Warriors is solid, and the Empires Expansion is worth it.

But despite having a soft spot for it, I need to concede to Samurai Warriors 2. They made the characters variate more with moveset types and allowed you to mix it up.

If they did that to Dynasty Warriors, I'd be sold. Samurai Warriors made leaps and strides in the second one that made it very much different, Dynasty Warriors needs to do the same instead of adding more characters.

Xing Cai I adore though. Cute thing.

Zhen Ji is probably the only female character I can really stand. Diao Chan's okay too, but Zhen Ji is way more fun. If only they'd stop doing her up like a cheap hooker, though. ;_;

@Hungry_Wolf- I agree. Though to be honest, I don't like how they toned down Date's personality in SW2. Historically he was a real unpredictable powerhouse, but they kinda made him a wuss in SW2. It saddened me.

But he was underneath Tokugawa's rule regardless, I think it was Koei's attempt to make historical accuracy and their own overdramatic storytelling to be some sort of equal. Personally I think they should have stayed with SW1's story style. I liked the Love/Hate Relationship Nobunaga and Lady No had.

Nobunaga in SW2 is awesome, but they should have made him a charge character. I miss his Psycho Crusher esque Attack.

Yeah. They made the story a lot more fun in SW1. But while Date DID serve Tokugawa, Tokugawa did admit at one point that even he was afraid of the fact that Date was such a loose cannon.

And they made Date tall in the second one. I liked how in SW1, he came up to Nobunaga's waist. xD

If you do that RP, I have dibs on Date. >.>

Oh I have millions of RP ideas..just never bothered posting them I suppose. But I'll try on that one =P

And the fact that he grew up was because the time was different. Also, Keiji's voice is absolutely HORRIBLE in SW2..but maybe that's cause Steve Blum did his voice in the first one..and its just..ugh. Nasty.

He sounds like a drunk surfer dude in SW2. xD Hideyoshi's voice also can grate on me, but then again... it's Hideyoshi.

Indeed..I got kind of tired of Nagamasa and Oichi's constant fluffy conversations. And how they dedicate slaying of hundreds of men to the other as a token of love or somthing.

There's a funny dialog in SW2: Empires with Nagamasa and No:

Nagamasa: Lady No, if I may make a suggestion; a woman of your beauty and stature should not dress the way you do. It's not right, it's..it's sinful.

No: You think this dress is Sinful? You should see what I'm wearing underneath..

Nagamasa: C-can I..?..Please?
