Hopefully there's no thread with same topic >w>;;;; I'm too lazy to browse to the other page and if there was, I figure it should be old enough that it shouldn't be resurrected....

I can't exactly remember when did the DOS OS started becoming 'dead', probably about the time they released Win 95? Anyway, as for me, I said goodbye to our family's computer which used DOS when I was in grade 10, and that was in 1998. My father bought a new computer with Win 98 as OS and sadly many of my favorite games couldn't be played on it.

Let's see who here are familiar with some of these names :P
-Sim Farm
-Sim Earth
-Sim Ant
-Railroad Tycoon
-Colonization
-Master of Orion
-Master of Magic
-Gods
-Wolfenstein
-Populous II
-Sim City 2000
etc.

Saw any familiar name?

Those are the lists of games I've played when I was kid, almost all of them, except Sim Ant I think? There's a bunch more which I can't really remember the name (since I only played, not the one who bought and installed the games ROFL!! xDDDDD) BTW, my favorites are:

1. Master of Orion - You lead one race of an alien to build colony, research for technology for better weapon, space ships and even increasing population of each planet and beat the other races in order to completely rule the galaxy (aka, becoming the master of Orion - which is a name of a planet that has a superior rate of technology grow but you gotta beat the guardian first ^^;;;)

It was fun to design a space ship, customize it with all the technologies you've invented

2- Master of Magic
- Similar name, isn't it? Because it was released by the same company just a year after Master of Orion xDDDD;;; but this time theme changed from up in the space to an almost fairy tale-like world. You're a Wizard, leading a race to build cities, research for a lot of secret spells, send your troop to defeat monsters in order to earn more magical power, gold and items  and yep, beating the other wizards.

I love this game because it has bunches of interesting things; races like elf that produces Pegasai (Pegasus rider) from fantastic stable while Nomad produces Griffins from fantastic stable. Spells are varied according to which element you choose for your wizard and some magical node can completely prevent you or your enemy wizard to cast spell because it has the opposite element. :o

3- Sim Farm - The name says it all, it's a farm!! If you know Maxis' gaming personality, you certainly know what this game should be like >_o Build your on farm, managing it to get the most profit and learn how to be a (digital) farmer.

Hmm. It's hard for me to know what you mean by a "DOS" age game, especially since a lot of the games from that era, I played WAY after their release on the DOS platform.

However, I do remember... when I was a kid, I would often go to my Dad's workplace. He was a computer technician, so of course the place was chock full of computer. When my sisters and I weren't building forts with the chairs or eating the delicious, delicious snacks, we were playing computer games on their Win95 machines. We would actually have to access the games via the DOS prompt! I was so young that I had no idea that's what it was, and I didn't even think about it until years later while poking around in bash. But, I digress!

It's kinda hard to remember the games I actually played when I was a kid, but I remember the Commander Keen series, "Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure" and its sequels, the Doom series(which my sisters, who were both older than me, regularly pwned me in), and of course the Duke Nukem games. I really loved them all, but I don't play them anymore.

Also, when I was even YOUNGER we had the game "Donald Duck's Playground", which as kids my sisters and I loved to pieces.

Anyway, years later in highschool, I was introduced to several DOS era games. Three of my favorite series were: King's Quest, Laura Bow, and above all, Quest for Glory. Although the whole Quest for Glory series spans past the DOS generation, they have got to be my favorite games from that era. So awesome.

Recently I was also introduced to Monkey Island and its sequel, both of which I loved. I'm currently looking around for the third in the series.

By the way, I can't believe you forgot OREGON TRAIL. Aw man, that's an awesome game. A few of its sequels were also quite good. My elder sister was more of a fan than I ever was, though. She would always play and name her party after members of our family, then announce when and how we died. XD It was pretty hilarious.

I never owned Sim Farm, but I did play it once. I like it a lot. I've also played Railroad Tycoon, but my eldest sister liked it more than I ever did.

That's about it, I think. And no, I'm not finding screenshots and descriptions for all those games. XD

I used to love Oregon Trail! It was on the computers at school and I always wanted to play it but the other kids hogged it. ;_;

More recently, I played PrincessMaker2, but it was a translated demo that never was officially released because someone said it was a porno game...which it wasn't...except for that one undress item....but...still...it was a DOS game.

I've still got the first Oregon Trail on my computer. It's a great way to waste 30 minutes or so.

I used to LOVE Sim City 2000. I loved 3000 more, and after that it just got way too complicated for my tastes. The idea is you cheat, build up your city with unlimited funds, then set fire to it and let aliens attack.

I never could get the hang of Sim Ant. I was always forcing other ants to throw up food for me and generally I got eaten by the spider before I could accomplish anything interesting.

Sim Earth was fun for making species of animals that God himself would look at and go, "This wasn't my idea, honest." Other than that, it bored me very quickly.

DOS was heaven to me. My brother and I programmed our computer to make it optimum for all those classic games. I miss those days...

Oregon Trail was the big one, but I have the feeling that just about every kid my age was worshiping at that alter.

King's Quest was the other huge one for me. I've beaten every single one of those games, and they never get old. Amazing, amazing stuff. To a kid, that really made you sit your butt down and think your way through problems. No quick guide, no walkthroughs available. It was your own brain or nothing.

On that same note, Space Quest was always fun. Not sure if I actually played that on my DOS system, but it should have been around back then. It was the exact same technology.

I loved games like that! My dad used to own a computer store and one of his employees played games like that and would always lend them to us. In addition, my Dad would go on AOL at night and would download me fun stuff - my faves were the Commander Keen games, the Duke Nukem series, Jill of the Jungle, and things like that. Early Hoyle card games and Sierra and Apogee.

And then, games that were for Windows 95 like The Seventh Guest (which was a BRILLIANT game with an awesome story and sountrack), Return to Zork, and things like that. I remember playing an Amazon game and Willy Beamish. And Wolfenstein too, I admit. I even remember this guy in high school putting Wolfenstein on the computer in Computer Science. I don't think he was supposed to do that...

I never did much of the Sim games or King's Quest, though I did have King's Quest 5 (but got stuck on it). It's cool how so many of those classic DOS games are ones you can download for free on various places online. My husband and I were laughing at all the memories we had as we were browsing through those sites to get some games.

I only remember this because my best friend had a few of them, and when we had sleepovers we would try to stumble our way through them. I remember having to pick up nectar and ambrosia in one of them, and that one of the stages was a medieval theater group's tent/stage. Those were some fun times.

Man, when I'd sleep over at friends' house, we'd always play Super Mario Brothers on the Nintendo - the original game. Of course, I'd die like 30 seconds in and my friend would end up playing for 30 minutes at a time!
