Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
I don't see a thread for this game, so... I made one.
Hope it's not a repeat. I know it's old now, but I haven't got an XBox 360, so I don't have Oblivion. From what I hear, Morrowind is better anyway. I don't know though, because I haven't played Oblivion. I think the absolute coolest thing about Morrowind, and the reason I still obsess over it is the level of freedom. The possibilities in this game are limited, but not as much as in other games. With patience and enchantments, you can pretty much make a character as powerful as you care to, and you can do whatever you want with that character. If you want to do the main quests, you can, if you want to avoid them, you can, and something I think is really great, is you can, to a large extent, do things on your own terms. I personally can't stand Caius Cosades, but I want to play through the main quest on Vvardenfell. I thought I was out of luck, until I found out that the package I'm supposed to deliver to him is encrypted with a simple code that a clever code breaker can crack on their own. Take that Cosades! I don't know of another game that affords you this kind of freedom. I wish every game allowed the player to choose which tasks they will take on, and how they will try to complete them. Also, just the intricacy of the world is impressive. I don't know of another game with a world that actually feels like another world. It's so vast and in many ways realistic. I think it's just like stepping back in time into 16th or so century England. Except with elves, cat people, lizard people, orcs, magic, demons, living gods, giant fleas as a mode of transportation, a displaced native population, and a governing Imperial force from across the sea. I think that's the reason that, for me, it's endured so long. Many games are like a movie with buttons. Once you've played through it once or twice you know what happens and there's not much point in revisiting it except for the sake of nostalgia. Morrowind however, has almost limitless replay value, especially because if you THINK you've done everything, you're probably wrong. There's probably a whole new aspect of the game you completely missed. Of course, at this point, there are probably people who have literally done EVERYTHING. But, oh well. They're rare I think. For anyone who wants to know, I've played as an Imperial, a Redguard, a Wood Elf and a Breton. I haven't gotten far with my Breton, or my Redguard, my Imperial beat the game, and my Wood Elf has done the most. I named her Allexandra and she has killed the entire Tribunal (excluding the obvious, but I won't give spoilers), she has 1.5 million septims and several legendary weapons and artifacts. With this character I reached the highest rank in the Mages, Fighters and Theives guilds and I also became the Knight of the Imperial Dragon. I've killed Orvas Dren, and I think the king in Mournhold, and I've tried to free enough slaves to be part of the... twin lamps? Is that what they're called? Oh well. I don't think I ever freed quite enough to do it. |
Well I moved this to the right forum but I'm also going to post.
I enjoy this game a lot, though I haven't played it in a while and I don't remember how I got it for free. >.< BUT.. It also creeps me out at the same time.. The music is creepy... I should start playing it again.. just not be so much a theif.. I enjoy getting that extra money though. |
I've had it for a while, but I could never bring myself to actually try to beat the game. I just ended up wondering around killing stuff and trying to find pretty armor/wepons. As for gameplay it was ok, i dint really enjoy the fact i could shoot my bow like 6000 times and only hit like 3 times out of them (dramatization >.>) though. I loved that i could pick tons of stuff up though, even some of the books were interesting :P. anyway yesh the only useful skills as far as i know where the ones to increase life and/or "magic"...you really didnt need anything else, at least not for anything ive did...but again ive never tried to finish to many of the quests. i got lazy about typing.

I like this game although I found it frustrating that it took so long to get places and do things.
|
I think Morrowind is better than Oblivion. It's setup is way simpler, the only thing Oblivion has that's cooler is horses.

WE'RE WATCHING YOU SCUM! Seriously though, this is one of my favorite games ever. The atmosphere was so immersive and all the tropes of your standard RPG were put on thier heads. It's why I started modding and programming. I guess this game actually changed my life. huh, I never though I'd ever really say that. |
I own Oblivion but I havent been able to enjoy it as much as I enjoyed Morrowind. It's probably the game I've spent the most time on and I still play it (though my Vista computer can't handle it). Over the years I've played alot of characters, especially since my Windows XP computer has killed over three harddrives which resulted in lost savefiles. Nowadays I make it a tradition to save the savefiles on a external harddrive.
As many have said the freedom of the gameplay is great and the soundtrack is very mood setting. Exploring ruins with headphones is still utterly scary. I enjoy the pc version more than the xbox one, especially with player mods. The bugs in the game can be quite frustrating though, like falling down a bridge or instantly dying when there's nothing to kill you. Occasionally there are some funny bugs though, like a dead mudcrap slowly flying towards the sky :) |
well morrowind is a great game with all the freedom and quests and most of all the cheating especially if you have the game of the year version with the werewolf and the imperial islands that add even more quests but i like oblivion more because its all the things morrowind has but with better graphics all tho if someone was able to make morrowind look better and added a better way to travel other then walking or riding a stilt strider it would be way too hard to say which is better but in the end i say that oblivion is better
and if you like the openness of the elder scrolls games and shooting games try the game fallout 3 |
i know you say you don't have a 360. I haven't played Morrowind persay! But I would like to tell you that my fiance is an avid oblivion and morrowind player. I am however horribly and probably unhealthly obsessed with Oblivion. Once I put that game in my xbox its game over and I'm stuck with it for months upon months until my fiance takes it out cause I need to finish my other games (I tell you its sad my obsession).
But from what I seen. Oblivion is very much like Morrowind There are things that are no longer there but you can still train in any weapon mastery, you can learn ANY spell. You can avoid the main quests and do them whenever you feel like still. You can focus on side misc. quests and there are even Master quests to help you achieve that last bit of knowledge on your major skills to make you a master! ^-^ Then there's the Shivering Isles expansion pack and the basic jist of that is complete and utter control. I'm telling you these games are phenomenal! So if you ever get a 360 but oblivion and shivering isles. You'll love it if you are an Elder Scrolls fan!..... I'm done. ^-^ |
Morrowind is amazing! It's the reason I got an XBOX.
I think Oblivion is better for a lot of reasons, but Morrowind is still amazing. I recently got a laptop that can't play Oblivion so I installed a friend's copy of Morrowind onto it :P Right now I'm playing as a Breton mage. |
i myself am an Argonian thief ^-^
|
I love Morrowind, but it's not installed on my com right now.
I usually play a fighter or mage, and usually with mod races. The main thing I love about it, other than the freedom, is the mods for it. Everything from my race, face and hair to my armor and weapon are all mods. I tried to make a mod once, took a guide and made a dwarf... It kinda sucked... |
Ahh, Morrowind is my forever love~ Man I had so much fun with that game. I had modded the crud out of it though. xD By the time I was done, the game was practically Oblivion..until it crashed my computer. >.>; At the height of my Morrowind gaming, I had a Black Khajiit who was the head of each guild. >D She was epic...I had cleared most of the caves out at least once, broken into all of the vaults, and finished each of the guilds. I think the only thing I've never done in Morrowind is complete the main storyline....xDD
Oblivion is fun, but its just not the same. I mean its fun, but the quests aren't as random and awesome I think. The addition of horses is really cool, but I miss the recall pendants. Also I find the balance between creature difficulty and character strength off. For some reason, I find myself either massively owning, or dying all the time. o_O Can't seem to find that happy medium...Not to mention I completed all the guilds way too fast. =_=; My next quest in Oblivion is to enchant armour in such a way so I can survive as a vampire in the sun...>3 I do love the series to no end though. Soo much freedom~! Whenever I play games with boundries now I get so disappointed..."But what if I wanted to run through that random bush?? Or attempt to cross that river there?" |
Oh I loved Morrowind. The days of leaving a stack of pennies on the run key while I went to class so I can run faster in the game. I played Oblivion some, but I'd really need a better computer just to play it. Though, it might be worth it. I loved making the character, and If I remember correctly, someone made a mod to play as a Moogle in Morrowind some time ago. That was pretty cool.
Oh, and I played a Dark Elf Mage/Thief (Basically a mage who snuck around and was good with arrows and jumping, everything else I think was Alteration and Conjuration with a dash of destruction) |
I liked both Morrowind and Oblivion. One thing I do wish they would add is a better way to arrange items. I spent so much time arranging things in my home in game, but still didn't have much control over the way it looked.
Oblivion looks beautiful. I haven't finished it yet though. |
I have both Morrowind and Oblivion for PC.
I really loved Morrowind, especially since I was able to play it on my laptop. I finished the main quest on both the main and the two expansions. Let's see....I think I play almost every character. Elves and Khajiits are my favorites. I think the thing I loved most about Morrowind was the vaults. I LOVED robbing them! :XD I usually always played a thief in that game. I even took over a mage's house and put all my stuff in it. (Can't remember what town that was in) Oblivion, however, is also AMAZING! I love the horses and the beautiful landscape. Right now I have a Khajiit that I'm using to find absolutely every map marker. All in all, I love both games so much that I can't even compare them. They are both equal in my mind. :D |
