Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance & Radiant Dawn
I'm pretty sure there's a thread for the Fire Emblem series in general somewhere out there, but this is just for the Radiant arc in general. If that's alright, that is. xD
In any case, as stated, this is for discussing Path of Radiance (for GameCube) and Radiant Dawn (recently released for the Wii), since they are of the same story line and all. RD takes place after PoR for those who don't know. <3 I got Radiant Dawn the day it came out, but since the TV is often in use, I don't get a chance to play it as much as I would like. I do believe I'm on chapter seven at the moment... need to get some playing in tomorrow; maybe after homework, if get lucky @[email protected] So, guys, what're your thoughts on these awesome games :D? |
-Reserved for possible future use- x3
|
Steve's wii is still sent away for repairs ;-;
He was playing PoR last night actually, on chapter 28. I couldn't defeat the black knight >.> |
I only have Path of Radiance for my gamecube, I love the game. I love the characters, and the story line too. I wish I had a Wii, but I'm not allowed to get one. I want to play Radiant Dawn so bad. x'D
|
I love the characters and storyline for Path of Radiance! :D I hear the game play isn't as good as prior FE games, but I like it just as much as the GBA version as far as I've played (I only got up to chapter 9 or so though in that one).
I've beaten the game cube version around five times I think. ^^; I went a little nuts the first time around and played it for hours and hours on end, but I keep improving my team each game (I take more breaks from playing now though). I'm really excited about the sequel, and I almost bought it today, but I'm putting it off because of the cost and I don't think I need the distraction before finals. I'm such a nerd, so I'm actually cosplaying as Micaiah this spring. XD |
Steve - Oh, well, that sucks! D: What's wrong with it?
Ahh, I technically didn't BEAT PoR. I got to the last chapter, and then I got lazy and never beat it... and now I don't like the units I trained, unfortunatley. On my current playthrough I'm on chapter 17, but I don't feel like going through all those parts again. Stupid Oliver guy. xD Naruu - Me too! And that's unfortunate... why can't you get one? If a friend of yours has a Wii, maybe you could stake out at their house and play. :'D Ferra - Well, I don't know... the gameplay in Radiant Dawn is pretty much the same as Path of Radiance, but with just a few tweaks. I miss the old Support system~ Which of the GBA ones did you play? Just the one titled 'Fire Emblem' (I think it's called Rekka no Ken in Japan, but I'm not sure), or 'The Sacred Stones'? Oh, I know what you mean... I'm a total video game nerd, so every time I get a new one I tend to just sit and play for hours and hours. Like with Tales of the Abyss - six hours a day, about - and Phoenix Wright: Trials & Tribulations at the moment. But, that's a bit off-topic... In any case, it does take a couple of playthroughs to explore each of the units and find the ones that you enjoy working with the most. M-maybe buying it after finals would be a good idea xD; If you liked PoR that much, then RD would keep you from studying I think. And that's awesome, cosplaying as Micaiah~ I wish I had the patience (and the skill) to make a cosplay. xD Out of curiosity, guys, what's your opinion on the whole Laguz/Beorc thing? What's your favourite class? And who are your favourite characters? I like a lot (as in almost all) of them, but my top favourite would probably have to be Ranulf (Lay in the Japanese version). |
I'll be honest that I love Ranulf. <3 He's one of my favorites, but I like Volke a lot too. (I didn't use him much this last game though, Jill was my MVP but I picked a medley of characters to use that time.)
I own the plain Fire Emblem one on GBA. I hear Sacred Stones isn't as good, but I'm sure I'll like Radiant Dawn though. :3 As for the Laguz/Beorc thing, I like it. It works as a decent plot point for me, and I like the laguz characters. But unfortunately, some of the units aren't that great. I never used more than two laguz in any of my parties if I didn't have to, and usually only one of the cats and/or Reyson. (I'd love to make a FE style character one day though.) And I wish I was skilled too. ^^; My grandmother sewed the dress for me, but I gathered the rest of it. I still need to order the wig and find the belt though. |
Volke was pretty awesome - and so were a lot of the other characters, which makes it difficult to pick a favourite xD - but Ranulf was awesome. I just love his sense of humor and playfulness, but the fact that there IS a certain seriousness behind it all. He's just. Great. :'D <3 ...Marcia makes me laugh, and Kieran is insane. xD
I've only played the first few chapters of that FE (which is, I believe, technically FE7?). I did beat FE8 (Sacred Stones), and I enjoyed it... but. PoR did appeal to me a lot more. Mmhmm, I agree with you on that one. The only Laguz I really ever used were... Ranulf, Lethe, Muarim (up until a certain point), and Reyson. The whole Branded thing reminds me of half elves though, I just realized. In a lot of games, they're looked down upon and such, and are often forced to hide their race. Sort of like the Branded. Hmm! Nice~ The only cosplay I've ever 'made' is one of Zelos from Tales of Symphonia... and that was for last Hallowe'en. It wasn't great, since my friend's mom had to make two of them (my friend was Mithos), but it did the job. I even dyed my hair temporarily red... I think my favourite part was the makeshift Exphere xD But again, I'm going off-topic~ ...Uh, let's see... I want to make Ranulf's hat. xD |
If I could wear hats I'd get one like Ranulf's. :D (And what you said about his personality is so true. <3)
I know what you mean about the branded though. ^^; A little cliche, but it works. I really like Stephan too though! :0 |
Yeahhh... I don't think it'd look good on me, but I want one anyway~ Just for the sake of having it and being able to wear it if I saw fit. xD
I know; I don't think it's a bad thing, especially since I just realized the similarity now xD It is unique in its own way though~ I can't remember exactly what kind of traits the Branded are supposed to have... it's making me want to play FE9 again. *Glances at the GameCube beside her* |
2 of my favorite units are;
Rolf- His awesomeness is so fecking awesome ._____. This is what it said a few chapters ago while I was fighting with him Hp- 49 Atk- 40x2 Hit- 100 Crit- 30 .....So, he could own anything. I was O.o when I saw that Nephenee- I gave her the knight ring, and I don't think she EVER took any more damage than 3 at a time. Not to mention she has nice attack and crit. |
@Steve: Unfortunately my Nephenee wasn't that great this last game when I tried to use her, and same goes for my Rolf. Not to say Rolf came out bad, but I had him with awesome stats in my past games that made me disappointed.
And since people rave about Nephenee's abilities, I also was disappointed with her since she didn't live up to those expectations (in the end she was a powerful unit, but she took too much damage on my game that I would have been better off training someone else). =/ In my game, my top units this time were Jill and Astrid. I didn't do anything in particular to train them, but they each maxed out three or more stats without using items. :0 |
I remember my Rolf (ahh I keep typoing that as 'Rofl' xD) was pretty good. Wonderful with a killer bow. I haven't tried out Nephenee yet, but on the playthrough I was in the middle of, I was trying to level her up.
I do also remember that Oscar and Boyd were better units than I had originally given them credit for. |
Every single game Oscar has been one of my top units. XD I thought it was sad that when my brother noticed I was using Oscar he stated "Oscar sucks!" To which I replied, "Not really, he's already stronger than Titiana." And my brother responded, "Oh... he accidentally died in one of the first rounds on my game."
Whoops. ^^; I've only had one unit die in any of my games, and that was Titiana on the final round the first try. Since then I've always gotten all the characters and kept them alive aside from Devdan in this latest game, which I didn't get because he attacked one of my strongest units before Rolf could talk to him. =/ Boyd is alright too though. I used to not use him much, but once he gets pretty high HP he's one of my better units. |
Yes, exactly! I mean, I may not have used Oscar as much as I should have in my first playthrough, but I never really could understand why people are so quick to jump to the conclusion that Oscar's a bad unit. Almost all of my FE-playing friends seemed to think so, as well.
As for Devdan, I didn't end up recruiting him during my first playthrough. I hadn't levelled Rolf that much, so I was having issues getting him to talk to him or Mist. So I just moved on. ...It wasn't much of a loss, though. Even after getting him I don't think I've used him more than once. The only unit I've ever let die was, again, through my first playthrough. Tormod on the final part of chapter seventeen. Normally I would have restarted the chapter or something, but I had been stuck on that one part for so long that I just got frustrated. Part of my reasoning was that I never really used him much, anyway. I did (and still do) feel bad about it though. |
I barely use any of the units people say are good.
I've never used Oscar, Jill, Marcia, Astrid, and some others. The chapters don't allow enough people, and I can't decide D: |
@inseCuREly: Tormond is actually a pretty good mage if you take the time to use him. ^^ I picked him for my mage this last game and he's pretty strong. But Soren is a bit more convenient since you get him earlier and he can possibly hit twice (he's even better if you give him the boots item too).
I never used Devdan, but he comes with a heavy spear. XD Plus I like the idea of "recruiting them all". *pokemon nerd* @Steve: Wow, I use all of those except Marcia (this time I switched to Tanith and I like her a lot more). :0 Which characters do you use then? I think the only unit I like using that most people hate is Mist. She was a lot more useful than Rhys once I leveled her up enough. |
Uhh.. Lets see.. The ones I use most are:
Ike (Duh) Boyd Rofl Soren Volke Tanith Reyson Lethe Muarim Mia Nephenee (Knows I am forgetting some) I'm on the last chapter now. I started it and split my team into 3 groups, but it didn't work too well and people started dying >.> I'm just going to send all 14 people up the right side next time. |
You don't like the paladins? XD My first game I used all of the paladins except Geoffrey and Makalov, but I used much more variety this time.
I never used Maurim or Mia much though, my top myrmidon is Zihark usually or Stefan if I didn't train anyone else. |
Quote:
I can't get a Wii because I already have an xbox, a 360 and then my gamecube. Ah well, You never know. |
I don't know why, I just stopped using them xD
I didn't get Stefan ._.' Wish I did though, everyone says hes awesome. I just beat the game as well. What REALLY annoyed me was that you couldn't control how fast the conversation at the end went. MY GOD, how slow do they think we read? D: But I was surprised, I only let 2 people die in the game. Gatrie died at chapter 17, and Rhys died at 21. That was my third try on 21 so I didn't bother resetting. |
I let Soren die near the begging. Now I kinda regret it but, I don't let anyone else die. If they do, I restart. D:
|
...I still haven't beaten the last chapter yet. I should probably get around to doing that, shouldn't I? xD ...But I'm on the tenth chapter of RD now; I want to keep playing but my grandparents are coming over for dinner in an hour, so I should probably just wait until later and save myself the agony of having to stop in the middle of the chapter. That, and it'd probably be a good idea to get my homework done first. :D;
Stefan IS pretty good... but I prefer training my other Myrmidons because I get attached to the earlier units. xD That, and Mia was my savior on one of the earlier chapters, during my first playthrough. The one where you get Ilyana? Yeah, that one. I put her in front of one of the single-space openings and she guarded it all by herself. I was so proud. >: Also, I love paladins - I never used Makalov though. He scares me. ...Muarim was also my MVP a lot during first playthrough, but I'm trying to lay off him a bit so I can level my other units more. Letting units die is hard for me, even if I hate using them a lot and will probably never use them again. Except for that one point in time with Tormod I believe I mentioned before, when I was still an FE newbie and had to do various chapters various times, I couldn't let units die no matter what. ...Now, in RD, I tend to abuse battle save. That thing is the best. <3 |
I have RD now ^^
I'm on part 3, but made a stupid move and battle saved, and its really hard trying not to get someone to die ;-; And I'm pissed off, I didn't get Haar D: I didn't know I had to talk to him with Marcia, I thought he joined automatically later in the game.. |
