Odin Sphere

Does anyone here love Odin Sphere?

It's got an amazing story and beautiful 2D graphics. Supposedly, it's a spiritual successor to Princess Crown, but I didn't get the chance to play it (I actually don't think it was ever released in the United States). It's got a pretty unique gameplay system, but it's really fun. Basically, each level is a circle (or sphere, I guess) and your character can move around the level killing bad guys. The faster you complete the level, the greater the rewards. However, you're able to replay the levels as many times as you want to collect items and gain experience.

There are a total of five playable characters and their weapons and attack patterns are completely different. You'll visit the same areas with different characters, but you'll have to utilize different techniques if you want to survive. Strategy is very important in the game, but it's also essentially a sidescroller and a beat 'em up type of game. But still a lot of fun, of course. :wink:

The characters are some of the best. They may seem stereotypical, but the each have their own motivations and goals in the game. Also, many of the characters cross paths during the game, sometimes as allies, but other times as enemies. As you progress through the game and play through more characters, the complete truth behind the game's events becomes apparent. I don't want to spoil the story, so I won't say anything more, but I assure you, it's one of the best the PS2 has to offer. :wink:

I love Odin Sphere! :D
My favorite characters are Gwendolyn and Oswald.
Odin Sphere is so appealing to the eyes, like one of those fairytale stories turned game. The vivid colors, music...and story made it an instant favorite for me.

The battles can be difficult, and as each character has different abilities, I had to adjust for each one. I suck the most with Velvet. I just can't use her properly, and was quite a pain to use. :(

Odin Sphere = Amazing!

I got it over the summer because I fell in love with the art. It's an absolutely beautiful game! My only complaint is the difficulty... Just playing on easy I tend to get stuck and replay boss battles over and over again in order to beat them.

I had the hardest time with Cornelius but finally got past it with a bit of help from my boyfriend who also owns the game. I'm currently working on Mercedes. ^^;

Hehe, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who loves this game. :D

I agree with you guys, this game is definitely hard, especially some of the boss fights. I cheated a bit and set the difficulty level to easy, but I still think it's really hard! I can't imagine playing the game at the hardest difficulty setting. I mean, those little green blobs are impossible to kill. :(

My favorite character in the game is Mercedes. I didn't think I'd like her at all, so I was surprised when she turned out to be one of the best characters. My sister and I actually spent a lot of time making fun of her before we got a chance to play as her, but it turns out the little fairy girl isn't as weak as we thought...

Mercedes has the most tragic ending. :( I've always liked her and Ingway...but sadly it's not to be. :(

I played the game on normal. Never tried the hard mode yet. My first battle with Odette as Gwendolyn was a real pain, but not as much as that battle with that Dragon and Wizard combined. But I enjoy difficult battles, which is why I liked Odin Sphere's system. My main gripe though, is the inventory, I'm quite a pack rat and hated it when I have to drop even one mandragora! :lol:

From what I can tell by the few moments I've played Odin Sphere, I'm going to love it. But I told myself I'd finish a few games before I actually started in on it. >>; I'm almost finished with several games and I want to at least complete them. I have about fifteen unplayed games lying around here, if not more than that. D:

I know someone who loved Princess Crown, but had to import that game because it wasn't released here in the United States. That's how I first heard of Odin Sphere. I'm looking forward to Odin Sphere though, simply because of the voice cast, the beautiful visuals, and the unique battle system. I hear it gets hard, but that's okay. I play a lot of games that are on the hard side lately. :P
