I usually love having it, but recently our neighbors have been using our connection with their computer, so it's been slowing our computers down. It's really getting on my nerves!
Sometimes I'll use another person's connection with a laptop, but not for days at a time...
Does anybody else have wireless?

If people are leeching from your internet like that, then it must not be encrypted or protected. In which case you should probably figure out how to do that in the router settings. It's kinda a cruddy thing for your neighbors to do, but it's your job to protect it from that.

On a related note, I love my wireless.

So just secure the connection? Yes we use wireless at my moms house but with the good sense to have it secured so people can't get on without our network key. The key being a random mix of numbers and letters that even we can't remember but is stored somewhere. I have no sympathy for people using unsecured wireless, they're just asking for other people to use it.

Use a WEP key to keep your network safe. It's really secure, and it's what I use, and I've always got a fast connection. And none of my neighbors can steal mah wireless. D<

I've got wireless internet. For a long time we didn't even bother with a password. I figured, who the hell cares if someone uses our internet? It's not going to do any harm. Besides, why be stingy? It won't cost us any more money for other people to use it. But recently our internet screwed up or something and it had to be fixed, and my mom ended up renaming it and putting in a password. So now other people can't use it. I really don't know if anyone else was using it in the first place anyway. I can't tell if other people do or not. But yeah, if you don't want other people using your wireless, put a password on it. How do you know the neighbors were even using it? o_o;;; That's gotta suck that they were slowing you down though, I imagine to do that they must have been running some big laggy program or something online.

All I know, that my situation for internet, I have to be on wireless, I'm on a different floor from the box that gives you web access. I even have it amplified so I don't have much problems with my connections. I think ours is secured.

We have wireless here as well, and so far no troubles yet! *smiles brightly* But then again, we came from a world of dial-up, so anything tens to be better!

If its running slow, though, are you sure tha's the reason? Sometimes, an outside factor may be the reason as well. ><;

1. Them taking your internet access like that is technically illegal. (Well, it's illegal if you put a password on it and they hack it.)

2. I detest wireless.

3. Put a password up and enjoy as your neighbors have to call their tech support because their internet isn't working and watch them flail when they find out that they are on a recorded line and get told what they are doing is illegal if they continue to use a secured wireless connection that isn't theirs.

I work for a tech support, I find it funny when people find out stuff like that and hang up on me. ^_^

I love my wireless, its wicked fast to. Yet leechers, hate them. Want to bash they're heads in.

Anyway you need to find out how to add a password for your internet using your router, that way they can't use it. I would suggest something that is hard to guess.

As everyone else has already mentioned, my wireless connection uses a WEP key. We have also taken other extra security measures in the past such as disabling DHCP, using a non-default block of IP addresses, and MAC address filtering to allow access to only certain computers/wireless cards (all working together). If you want to get really fancy, you can even blacklist MAC addresses that have a certain number of repeated failed attempts in a certain span of time to access your WAP (5 incorrect tries in 10 minutes, or something).

Even with that much security, we really over-use and abuse our internet connection. Every now and then I have to restart our modem and WAP just to clear out the cached data and reduce the lag.

I guess I'm lucky in the sense that in order to leech off us, you'd need to be either in the back garden or on our driveway. A risky proposition given my dad's temper and my ability to deliver pain. In other words, it's not worth it.

I have more problems with my ISP than my internet itself. ;-; I've had wireless and I've had cables instead...none of it really helps me out at all. I really get annoyed by it. I have to reset the router a billion times, and when my ISP comes out, guess what? They replace everything brand new, charge for it, and then the same thing happens within the money. :/ So they come out again, wash, rinse, repeat.

I can't really talk though. I'm not paying for it at the moment; if I was, I'd change my ISP entirely. They do a crappy job. But we just have it for the whole house; it makes it easier at the moment.

I've got wireless, with my desktop computer and a laptop. Our connection's secured, though, like most of the others in my neighbourhood, since you can never be too careful... xP

Definently put a password on your connection. Especially if you have the option of saving passwords and things turned on. People can get into your accounts like that. @[email protected]

I hate my wireless because its so flipin slow and it disconnects so often! Its a total pain in the bum. I guess its nice to be able to go anywhere with my laptop but when I'm at home its a total pain.

Well, my internet is shared between my computer and 3 other computers in my house, so I didn't expect it to be amazingly super-fast when we got it. But it was so unreliable D; It would have good days and bad days, y'know?
But today, my dad 'upgraded' the entire network. Instead of a router with one aerial, we now have a router with 3 aerials, and I now have a whopping great big aerial on my desk o_O;
Needless to say, so far my internet has been pretty reliable ;D *touch wood*
