I checked through the forum index and saw there were no threads here on an old Playstation game called "Legend of Legaia!"
Legend of Legaia
Story:
The story starts with a character named Vahn. In Rim Elm you live as the main character who is part of a peaceful village that is surronded by "The Mist" and is enclosed since he was very young. (Presumably he is 17 now). Many years ago when he was born or a baby "The mist" appeared. With it followed monsters that were violent and deadly. Seru were created or once animals that are changed and become violent with the touch of the Mist.
With that many humans died and many turned into Seru's when a Seru attached themselves to the body of a human.
Very few civilizations still exsit and those that do are hovering in fear in their home hiding from the Mist and the monsters (seru) it carries.
The story started with a normal day for Vahn. When the hunters of his village came back his childhood friends father ended up getting killed by a Seru. To make matters worst, later that night the Seru manage to break into Rim Elm (A village that built a huge wall to protect themselves from the Mist and Seru).
Vahn ventures out of his house and quickly looks for people in his village trying to protect his friends and family. When he finds his way to the center of the town the Guinese Tree is glowing and he discovers the Ra-Seru. Seru that don't control humans but fight with humans. They're powerful and ancient and were created by a greater being long ago.
Ra-Seru Meta (his name is Meta) fuses with Vahn and becomes a part of him. (On vahns right hand)
Together they save RimElm and later travel the world to rid it of the mist.
Their future allys are Noa (with Ra-Seru Terra) and Gala (with Ra-Seru Ozma).
~~~~~`
The gameplay is awesome and diffrent. You get to use magic (seru) and also martial art. Create combos.
More info on Legend of Legaia:
You can only have three characters. Those are the only ones in the game that were actually available.
Each character has something different points and elements.
Vahn: He's the son of a previous hunter in the village. At a young age his mother got sick. The cure for her sickness was located at the nearby castle but by that time it was already infested with insane and violent Seru Monsters. Still one night he was outside the house and over heard his father talking with the village elder and a few others about his mothers condition. She was to die soon if they didn't get a plant that is located in the castle. But no one can go b/c its already surrounded by Seru. His father hears a noise but by the time they realize Vahn over heard the story its too late. He had already headed out into the mist to go toward the castle. His father immediately chases after little Vahn and permanently injure his knee but manages to find his son unharmed. The next day his mother passes away.
Vahn lives now with his father and little sister Nini. He is taught Biron style martial arts and is strong yet light.
Later he leaves on an adventure to find Mei's mother who's still alive after her father dies. He then sets out and tries to rid their planet of the Mist at the same time. This is how he meets other characters.
Element: Fire (Meta)
Fighting Points: He's quick but strong. An in-between kind of fighter he becomes very powerful later.
Voice: His voice actor is also good. ^_^ In my opinion I think it matched him. Dialogue is in Japanese only.
Noa: She's the hyper, energetic, cute member of the team. She has a very naive and innocent personality. She's also strong-willed and the fastest fighter in the group. She was raised by a wolf since she was a baby. Her current Ra-Seru is Terra who possessed the wolf's body. By doing so she was able to talk and take care of Noa until she was old enough to take care of herself. They lived trapped in a cave until the Seru break in. That's the first time Noa heads out into the real world and meets Vahn and the others. Terra later transfers over to Noa and bonds with her instead of the old wolf (b/c the old wolf is dieing and if she stays on she'll die as well). Noa later heads off with Vahn to not be alone and to find her parents.
Element: Wind (Terra)
Fighting Points: She's the fast fighter in the group. Swift like a wolf she uses claw weapons more when using martial arts.
Voice: Her voice actor has a chirpy, child like, energetic voice which matched her wonderfully in my opinion. Once again, Japanese only.
Gala: The 'Young Master' of the Biron Martial Arts. He's a 'monk' there who despises Seru and thinks they're evil. Under his serious look he's actually really caring even for his ego Songi.
Gala leaves with the group to get a ra-seru since they're trying to save people and instead his monetary home is attacked while gone. He discovers it was songi and later retrieves a ra-seru Ozma in order to help Vahn and Noa on their journey.
Element: Thunder (Ozma)
Fighting Points: He's the strong and brute force fighter in the team. He's serious, strict, and the one who gets down to business. He's also the muscle man of the team. An expert in Biron Martial arts and graduated at a young age.
Voice: Another good choice in my opinion. He has a deep voice which matches Gala's look. Japanese only voice actor as well.
Oh my gosh, I used to love Legends of Legaia. XD I was in like junior high when it came out, and I remember I tried to make a play by email RPG. My character had the ra-seru of water or light or something totally twinky like that. XD
I played it through so many times. What a great, underrated game. You know they made a sequel that had like nothing to do with the original. X( Lame.
OH!!! I agree!!! The sequal was just terrible. If they were going to do something like that they shoudl have made the characters completely diffrent and unique. The main guy in the Legend of Legaia 2 looks like Vahn. The graphics there are worst than Legend of Legaia itself if you ask me. >_< (probably not really but I didn't really like it at all).
It was terrible b/c a company bought the name but it wasn't actually made by the original Legaia creators.
The story was horrible to. What was it about? Something with water....
I remember my favorite characters was Noa b/c of her personality and I loved Terra.
I actually believe the character in 2 was named Vahn, and Noa and Gala did not make appearances, I believe. But Vahn and his little no-personality girlfriend from the first game were in it, and yeah it had something to do with lack of water or poisoned water or something.
Man, I may have to bust out the PS2 and play some Legaia soon. ._.
Actually, in the sequel they were different people. The hero was called Lang, and the only LoL character who gets mentioned, albeit as a random drop in a machine, is Noa, who is shown in a portrait.
I liked both games equally, to be honest. Compelling storylines, lovable characters, and quite a bit of humour in both. The first kind of felt a bit short compared to the second, though.
Really? Wow I'm shocked to see someone liked the second one to be honest.
Yup, Dark Evangel is right though. Lang was the new character that looks like Vahn. I almost could have sworn it was him until I actually played the game. That and another character that even looked like Songi. There were a few characters that almost looked familiar but they were different people.
Actually I was thinking of buying myself a PS3 in the future soon. ^_^'
Yes, I will pay for it but I have to ask my mom for permission to buy it. It's sad but hey I live here and I have to follow rules. hehe.
Also, Legend of Legaia 2 had some humor in it? o_o!! Maybe I didn't make it far enough. ^_^' But the first one i remember did. The characters were lovable I agree!
