I love it I think it is a great show and can't wait till the 3rd season comes out
|
Thanks captain ^^;
I actually tried to read the books, got to the second one but didn't find it very entertaining to keep reading. I love the TV show though and I'm pretty happy they changed it a bit because the second season wouldn't have been the same without Lafayette. ( the downside is that they made a lot of Louisiana errors heh. You wouldn't find a cajun near Shreevport, nor would you find bayous haha) |

Jessica and Hoyt was great, but I'm sad that that's kinda over with now. Maybe only for the short term though... I hope so. I want them to work out. And YES! I love Lafayette!! He didn't have much personality in the books really, but I love his character, and I don't think the show would be the same without him. I'm curious why they're talking about him having all this power... He's gotta be something special... Though Jesus is kinda suspect too. My coworker and I had a talk about this today, and she thinks Jesus has some kind of glamouring power, but he's not a vampire, so maybe fae? XP Whoknows. But the books -- yeah, I just don't think the later books have been as good as the newer ones. They're more rushed, you can just tell. I mean, I still eat them up, but yeah. Quote:
And yes! That's one reason why I don't like Bill. Unlike Eric, he hasn't really changed with the times... Totally old fashioned. Quote:
 The fairy wars... That's all I have to say about that. XP Maybe I should read these short stories now... :D And yes, I also liked Quinn, but yeah, not for Sook. He did seem appealing though. Alcide was kinda just a little fling on the side, so he didn't really count. |
If they want to promote Bill as "the one TRUE love of Sookie's life" they'd better make him less of a dick. u_u;
I'd never really liked him, but I admit to being biased. My sister in law wanted me to read the series and she inadvertently gave me the book where Eric has amnesia. I didn't read it, I just read the back cover of it and ever since I'd been attached to Eric. >_>; Bill never had a chance. And though Eric has never really shown "he cares" the same way Bill does, I think his feelings for Sookie are more genuine. And I'm not talking about the spoileriffic bit either. Eric has less touch with humanity than Bill, I think, so that makes anything he does feel very strong. :P Just about any time I read anything with Bill I'm just kinda, "okay, whatever." and now I'm also like, "okay, whatever, stalker." Sizz - if you can't find the short stories, hit me up with a PM. xD It took me a lot of digging to find them. Quinn is a lot like a character I role play, so that's probably why I love him so much. xD; There are so many parts where I'm reading something Quinn does/says/is and I'm like, "HOLY SHIT GET OUT OF MY HEAD. D:" Not that for a moment I think I got ripped off, 'cause I don't post things with him online. But same build, similar vocal quirks and personality, some of the same looks other than build, screwy family relationships; etc. So I have a soft spot for Quinn forever now. And since Sookie is almost nothing like his significant other I couldn't ever get behind that. Alpo (Alcide) was never a question of, "will it work out, I wonder?" Just one of her hot to trot moments. >_>; |
I think they keep trying to turn Bill into the "true southern gentleman" which he is so not. :talk2hand:
In the books he's really very secretive and to himself. I was more attracted to Eric from book one because Eric told it like it is, now bullshit. And you could TELL that he was attracted to Sookie for more than just her ability to read minds in subtle ways. I really, really loved that he was completely straight forward about everything. Like in one of the books the moment that went something like Quote:
I keep hoping that the JessicaxHoyt thing will flare back up. I thought he was perfect for her. Dang it! And yeah, I was really thrilled with the way Lafayette was portrayed in the series. I almost wish the books had done more with him because it was a lot of fun to watch. There were a few things about the series that I really loved. I think it's great what Sookie is, I don't mind that at all. I think that Sookie in the show versus Sookie in the book is a lot different because book Sookie always thinks about politeness and her grandmother's way before she reacts to anyone but the TV Sookie is a lot different. And I actually had no idea that the two were married IRL. :o Maybe they're just bad actors when it comes to relationships with other people. |
I was sure that in this most recent episode of True Blood, Bill and Sookie would have split..but no they fought and reconciled at the end of the episode. I don't like Bill at all...he bugs me. Though I did like this past episode, the scenes with him and Jessica training and such. I hope they continue it some more, it's nice to see them as a father/daughter relationship.
|
I found an Eric Northman on here. :O Someone is taking it super far! :D hahaha! :)
True blood will always be the highest possible ranking you can achieve for a vampire show. |
Wynna - I couldn't bring myself to watch the new season. I watched through season 2 but when Bill proposed I was like "NOOO! :illgetu: "
Rene - Really? Does he roleplay Eric Northman or does he just have the name?! |
@ Estrella, ya. I'm not a Bill and Sookie fan. I hope they will break up soon, and Sookie will start having some adventures with Eric.
|
My boyfriend, when I first started watching/reading the series was always like "But he's Vampire Bill!"
I don't care who he is, he's a shmuck. :talk2hand: Although, the way he says "Sookie"... |
In the books I found Bill to be more of a dick...and him and Sookie fought quite often. Now I find season 3 is well...I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. You think they're going to break up, and then they get back together...it's starting to remind me of Grey's Anatomy..but instead of McDreamy's hair. You have Bill's fangs.
|
He is a dick in the books and I think they tried to change that in the series.
But Eric STILL kicks his butt. :XD |
@ Estrella: I'm definitely a fan of Eric.
I find in the books that Sookie seems to be...dare I say, almost used by practically all the men in her life. |
I don't know if there's anything that could be done about that - the men using Sookie.
(Below contains possible minor spoilers for the books so proceed with caution. I'm trying to be non-specific here.) The vampires ... well. They live in a different world, don't they? Their rules are different. I think even if they didn't want to use Sookie, they couldn't get away from doing so because in the end someone who cared about her less would use her instead. The weres/shifters ... They're less guilty of it than the vampires. Alpo of course was the worst one of it. I can't think of any instances Sam did. I can only think of once that Quinn did, but that was sort of on-the-job when they first met, right? Or am I forgetting something? Her grandfather is cracked out. I don't even know what to say about her grandfather. At least he didn't want anything from her except for her to be safe and happy and he tried his best to make her those things. Her brother is the most guilty party in the typical selfish Southern bubba sort of way. And you know how supernatural he is. I'd say the people who use her the worst are those who are or were recently fully human. And I'm including a lot of the townsfolk in that too. |
I think that, in the books, Sookie really tries NOT to be used but she's the kind of person that likes to help her friends and she truly considers those people who "use" her her friends.
I mean, with the vampires, yeah, they do use her. Eric even admits it plainly. But she'd do it willingly, in my opinion, most of the time anyway. And I don't think it was Quinn that was using her in that instance, if we're thinking of the same one? I thought it was Alcide again? Or the lady from the funeral (whose name escapes me)? I'm not sure I like the way the series turned with Jason. He was a handful enough in the books without the addition of all the stuff that happened in the series. |
Yeah, in most cases when Sookie steps in to do something for someone - even when she's manipulated into doing it - she would have done it anyway. She almost never resents it, even when she could. But I think that speaks pretty much to her being a "Southern woman, born'n'bred". Like her grandmother's mantra that's repeated a lot. Y'know the one that goes about a woman being able to do anything. Sookie just sort of is one of those people who's been taught to just get things over with and try not to hold a grudge about it.
(I'm not sure if I'm putting my thoughts about this correctly. I'm not saying she's a doormat or that Southern women are doormats. More that she's too practical to bother with making a fuss over it for no reason. I find that you find much less digging your heels in and balking at doing things in the South because a good portion of us are too practical to bleat about, "are you saying that's women's work" or whatever PC thing that people have been trained to say when someone asks them to do something. It's not that they can't do it or won't do it if approached properly - they just have been taught to dig their heels in until it's presented to them in a PC manner.) Sookie's skills pretty much make her a go-to girl. Supernatural or mundane, when people see what she can do and believe she can do it, they want to make use of her. For noble and fishy purposes. The vampires and weres are pretty up-front about it. The humans generally less-so. She made it clear in the last few books that she's happy to help - but she'd rather it were done in her own terms. The supernatural sphere seems to be more willing than the mundane sphere to let her have her terms. The instance I mean with Quinn is (this might be considered enough of a spoiler to just put it behind spoiler tags for those who don't know who Quinn is yet):
At the were contest for the new pack leader where she shouted out that there was cheating going on, Quinn asked her to continue to use her skills. I don't see anything wrong with what he asked of her there. But it's the only time I can recall that he asked her to do something other than what any boyfriend might ask his girlfriend to do. I don't think that Quinn could have been said to have 'used' Sookie at all. But maybe I forgot an instance. I don't even think that his keeping his family situation secret from Sookie could be considered 'using' her.
Alpo (Alcide) is probably the one in the series who used her the most after her brother. Eric might have more instances of asking her to use her skills, but Alpo is the one who was the most manipulative, most hurtful, and least up-front about it. I suppose technically I should put that under a spoiler too, but meh! xD; ::unfortunately has nothing to contribute to the discussion on the show. will have to see it soon:: |
That's what I think of Sookie as well. That she's really just a Southern woman and she takes after her grandmother in a lot of ways. I love how she's always hospitable even when she truly doesn't want to be. It's always
Quote:
And I agree, Sookie's skills do make her appealing to a lot of different people and the supernatural people understand that it's a gift more than the mundane world, I think. The mundane world has a really hard time accepting it as anything spectacular. They can't help but being weirded out by it. And yeah, I know which you're talking about now. I just don't think that could really be considered being "used" though, since if she had said no I doubt Quinn would have pushed it. And I think Jason had the most harmful moment of using Sookie, personally. |
Yeah - I'm just responding to Wynna's comment above about how the men in Sookie's life have more or less used her. xD; Was trying to decide if I thought it were true or not, so I had to sort of "talk it through" to myself (ie: ramble).
|
Wooh, wow. So much text to read, XD.
Sorry, I guess I should have added on to my original post: I don't Sookie minds that much for the little things, and when she does end up getting caught up within the vampire politics of it all she calls the shots. Possible spoiler alert?: SPOILERShe does have great insight into what her actions may cause other people, or how she may be viewed. Perhaps this does have to do with her being able to constantly 'hear' what other people are thinking about her. I love Jason in the series, in the books, not too much..but I'm only on the 6th one. I love how is character is developing in the series, I can't wait until he gets more involved with the people from HotShot. |
Okay, after watching this past weeks episode. I think it is safe to say that Russell is officially nuts! I laughed my ass of seeing him with the urn of Talbot`s remains on the roof of Fangtasia, and at the end of his news rant when he was, ``We`ll eat you, after we eat your children.......Now for the weather, Tiffany?``
|
OMG I LOVE RUSSELL! The last three minutes of the episode were fantastic!
I actually loved this week's episode -- I think it's been one of the best this season so far. Highlights: • Russell, of course. I loved him carrying around Talbot's urn, not to mention the whole newscast war declaration. • Eric/Pam and their relationship -- they're great. • Tara standing up to Franklin, finally. Franklin was a special kind of crazy. I  James Frain though, so I'm sad to see him go. • Lafayette + Jesus = (Though Jesus is sketchy. The tattoo he has has to have some special meaning...) • Jessica and Hoyt's discussion at the bar. They're just too cute! awwww! Stuff that irritated me: • Bill in Suckie-fairy-land • Jason, Crystal and pretty much anything to do with the people from Hotshot. I never much cared about that storyline in the books either. • Bill/Suckie in the shower -- Jeez man, can he just not get enough of her blood? Didn't he practically drain her not long ago? |
I also didn't like the whole fairy-land thing. Why does Bill have to be there?
I hate Crystal so much, like what was with the whole, "He tried to rape me" flip-flop thing when her finance came to Jason's? I think that Jesus might be a shifter, interesting to see what will happen there. What I don't understand is why did they not just have Tara off Franklin back in Jackson, instead of having him show up for 2 minutes? I really hope that Jessica and Hoyt get back together. There's a new cover of Rolling Stone that has a True Blood cover on it, it's really racy: SPOILER |
Could wish they'd done the blood better. :/ The photo could have been very hot but then they threw some 'blood' on them using a restaurant ketchup bottle to spray it on and it looks tacky and lame.
|
Ya it does, and I don't think Sookie would really want to be covered in blood.
|
Quote:
And yeah, that picture could be sexy if the blood wasn't so lame looking. How totally unrealistic! Still, I may have to find a way to read Rolling Stone... I don't know if I would buy it. I've always liked Spin more. XP |
