Half of the people whom I've talked to that have seen it were scared out of their minds, the other half thought it was a waste of money. Sadly I'm in the first half.
I'll admit the first majority of the movie is pretty boring, but I personally think that leaves you defenseless for the ending.
I think it's because they make it seem like a home recording, so it kind of feels like it can happen to anyone.
So really it depends on the person if you are freaked out or not, and there's no way telling because I have two horror movie fanatic friends and both are on opposite sides. So it is not just a matter of it being a poorly made movie or not, just a matter of what kind of person you are.

I watched it a few days ago. And I can honestly say it scared me a bit.

Mostly because I was convinced it was an actual documentry. Like, a few parts of it were actual footage, while others were reenacted. But once I saw the ending, I just sat there repeating "Oh, this is fake. Obviously. Fake, Fake, Fake." Only to start second guessing myself again once the "dedicated to" part showed up on the credits. I turned over to my friend and asked her if the event really happened.

It was a real mind fuck trying to figure that out. Until we looked it up and learned it was a mockumentary.

Now I just feel silly for assuming it was real. :U

Aghhh. I keep hearing extreme points of view. Either, "IT SUCKS, DON'T SEE IT." or "IT WAS SO TERRIFYING, SEE IT!" I don't know if I should waste money to go see it. I:<

It's kind of sad that they spend only a few thousand to make the movie but somehow it managed to be one of the scariest horror films ever. It's also sad that it's raking in millions.

Filmed in San Diego!! :3 FTW x]

I liked it a lot, I was one of the first few in the area to 'demand' it. >;D
It wasn't as awful as everyone said it was. I thought I would be forever traumatized. But I actually really liked it. :D It's creepy but it's got some humour in there too. c:
And this is coming from someone who's almost 19 and still terrified of the dark and creepy crawly things. D:

I watched a boot leg version of the film with it original ending (it actually has 3 different endings) and though I would call it the scariest...it was rather creepy. I am really wanting to see the other endings to the movie, apparently each version of the movie is slightly different.

A couple of weeks ago me and my mom and my brother went... Let me tell you it scared me half to death! There is a lot of scary parts in that movie! I'm 13 and I thought I was gonna get nightmares, but I didn't. : ) Still the only movie I get nightmares from is the classic "Halloween" with Michael Myers... But still you should go see it!

I actually heard that Paranormal Activity is not a scary movie but I think that depends on the person. I think it would probably be really boring. I also heard that the one they showed in theaters isn't the same one that they showing in I think it was a festival 2 years ago.

It was boring in the beginning. What with it starting out slow and all.

Yeah, when they screened the movie at the Screamfest Film Festival, it had a different ending. It's actually considered as the "original ending" opposed to the theater release.

I'm really tempted to search around Youtube for the other two endings now. x)

I saw it.
It scared me a bit and honestly, I was freaked out like for about 5 minutes after the movie.
xD
And then I got over myself.
It does have some creepy parts in it thought.
It is a pretty scary movie if you stop to think about it, but not the "Scariest Movie Ever" In my opinion.
I mean, if you have horrible gripping fear of ghosts and demons and things of that nature, then yeah. It would seriously freak you out.

All in all, an alright film.
Probably the best part is when the chick is screaming, "MICHA! MICHAA!!! MICHAAAA!!!"
That was pretty funny, haha.

I've been wanting to see it ever since I saw the preview, but I've heard that it was pretty creepy. Then I heard from another that it sucked, so now I'm deciding which to listen to.

I honestly think the movie is probably over-hyped. Granted, I can't talk too much since I haven't seen it yet, and I'll certainly give it a try, but I don't have high expectations for it.

I'm still staying loyal to my SAW series ;) It's not scary, but I appreciate when scary/gore movies have a powerful message behind them. It's pretty rare.

I've wondered about going to see it. My son's friend said it was the best scary movie he had ever seen, and that it really scared him. Then I talked to my best friend and she said it was the stupidest movie she had ever seen and not to waste my money on it.
I'll probably just end up renting it instead of going to the theater.

It is a movie that is best seen in theaters. I liked it; there was one person I know who didn't like it. If you are questioning it, catch a matinee. They are only 4$.

Hm. So, I just watched Paranormal Activity with my cousins.
Truthfully? I didn't find it scary one bit.
My cousins were watching it with me and freaked out about the fact that it was "based on a true story"
I don't get it! There was an alternate ending.. Dx
How can that be based on a true story?

So what about you? Did you like it? Hate it?
If you haven't watched it, do you want to?

I thought it was incredibly stupid, plus it's obviously fake. Everyone thought it was real or something. I still think one of the scariest movies is The Thing, but that's just me.

your not going to have nightmares. i'll admit while me and my roommate were watching it it seemed freaky as crap at some scenes but you get over that since there are a ton of seriously boring moments. and after i realized this didn't actually happen it seemed like a really cheap horror flick, i'm glad i didn't go to the theatres to watch it.
