I saw a trailer for that song a while ago, and thought it looked like it could be good. From my perspective, Disney lost a lot of it's charm.

I don't care much for quite a few of the 3D and computer-generated movies that Disney has been churning out lately. Marveling at the effects and pretty hair they make on a big fancy flat screen TV only goes so far. 2D hand drawn animation seems to have a lot more feeling to it. The songs and characters that I used to watch on VHS when I was little are very nostalgic nowadays. The Disney and MGM animated movies are part of what made childhood so fun!

I really hope this new movie lives up to everyone's expectations. Kids these days really deserve a good cartoon with no big technological flash or bang. Nothin' like a good Disney fairy tale :3

I saw a thingy for it on the internet and am liking what I see, good old disney!

ElysiumFate 10-12-2009 11:46 PM

I saw the first cardboard cutout for it in the theaters yesterday. All of the characters look positively charming/creepy/wonderful. This shall truly be interesting.

Bunai 11-03-2009 10:50 AM

I am happy its getting closed it its release.

It sucks that its gone through so much trouble though. Especially changing her name from Maddy to Tiana. I felt that Maddy was a much more suiting and historical name.

Erailea 11-03-2009 06:31 PM

But ther eis a very elegant vibe to the name Tiana, you have to admit.

nette 11-05-2009 05:20 AM

Really it was going to be Maddy? sorry but I really don't like that name. I agree Tiana sounds much better and more suitable for a Disney Princess.

Fabby 11-05-2009 06:59 AM

Am I the only one who's concerned that there is suddenly a monarchy in New Orleans? I HAVE to be missing something here.

My biggest concern was that the movie was going to be set in, like, medieval Europe and the princess would be black just for the sake of racial diversity. Racial diversity just for the sake of being politically correct, even when it's totally unnecessary, is a pet peeve of mine.

But all that aside, I'm excited! It's a REAL DISNEY MOVIE! Oh, this is going to be lovely.

Bunai 11-05-2009 05:53 PM

Tiana is suitable for a Princess and (to me) a bit PC. But Maddy is indeed more relating to the time period and place.

Though the name was chosen in no relation to the term people associate it with. Maddy is sort of short name from the French name Madeleine.

She's more of a debutant. And I am sure it is the frog that is the Prince, thus making her a Princess by association lol *theory*

Erailea 11-05-2009 09:55 PM

We'll see. I mean you can get married into royalty you know XD She might be an average girl. I picked up a children's book for the film and it said Tiana wanted to run a cafe (I think it was a cafe... something to do with the restaurant business) when she grew up, just like her papa.

@ Fabby- Actually that's never bothered me. I just see it as them taking the feel and general idea of New Orleans and making it more fantasy/story book like with the addition of a royal family. They sort of do that kind of stuff all the time. Take a general area and play with the "what if this happened" sort of thing. So, personally, I'm interested what they're going to do with a kind of monarchy there XD

nette 11-06-2009 02:55 AM

I think that having the movie based on New Oleans works. To me it's always had that mysterious magic apeal. Especially in the case of the French Quater anyway.

The Princess and the Frog

I'm surprised that I haven't seen a forum for this movie yet.

I'm really excited for it to come out. Though i'm fourteen years old I plan to go on the first day it comes out, it looks really cute and orginial I was sort of upset while I was reading that people acually wanted to change the plot and even her name for "racist issues" >__>

But other than that whats your thoughts on the new movie?

BinkaKitty 11-23-2009 10:51 PM

i can't wait to see it!!! i love Disney movies, even tho i'm 19. plus, i miss seeing new 2D animated movies. i like those so much more than the new 3D movies coming out.

Captain Howdy 11-23-2009 11:44 PM

I've merged your thread, Demoncat, with our preexisting 'Princess and the Frog' thread.

If you're unsure is whether a topic has been created or not, be sure to check the Media Forum Index. :)

Demoncat 11-24-2009 02:46 AM

Man I can't believe I keep posting forums that are already made, i'm really sorry, maybe next time i'll try scanning the second page too. Again i'm really sorry about that. D:

BinkaKitty: Yeah I really, miss the 2D movies too. I hope they make more cartoon movies, but I heard the next princess movie isn't going to be 2D. :/

YamiSora 11-24-2009 04:25 AM

I, myself, think it's gonna fail miserably even though a lot of people are gonna see it (like myself XDD)
It might not fail in the kids department.....they'll probably just be excited to see a cartoon movie in general, but with people who have been through the Disney renaissance (1989-1999), it will not do good.

From what I've seen from the commercials, behind the scenes, etc. it just seems like it doesn't have the same disney film feeling like it does with lion king and beauty and the beast. Something is just different and it's nice that they tried to make a 2D movie again that looks like the older ones and they finally have a black princess, but it just doesn't seem like it'll be a big hit.
Now thats just my opinion, but whatever, I'm gonna see the movie anywho to see how bad or good it is and will probably get the DVD as well to have a little Disney history and to make my grandkids dissapointed when the do something bad and have to watch it XDD

(if it turns out to be a great movie, then I take every word back from the passage.)

OOOOO FUN FACT TIME! XDD
Have you ever noticed that most disney films try to release in November?
They do that because Steamboat Willie was released on November 18, 1928 and it's considered good luck to them to release films around that time.

halfbreedfox 11-25-2009 12:48 AM

I'm so excited the the Princess and the Frog. I've been waiting for centuries for a 2-D Disney movie, and I'm finally getting it! =3
My next biggest wish is the the 2-D movies to keep coming out. It would be fantastic if we could keep the tradition alive.

As far as controversies go, I'm sick of it. I'm sorry that some people were so sensitive to the idea of Tiana starting as a maid, because the story could have grown beautifully that way (not that I don't think her being a princess already isn't fantastic). I'm just hoping that once the movie comes out, everyone will be happy and it will be a great hit and more 2-D movies will follow. lol.

Strangely, my one issue with the movie, is that Tiana has hair teased to be white girl hair. lol. I'm sure it's easier to draw or whatever, and girls back then probably had it that way, but I think she would be cute with super curly hair lol. Same with the prince.
But hey, I'm not crying over it. :3

Oleaceae 12-10-2009 01:38 AM

I'm ungodly excited for this movie.
Almost there. ^__^ 2 days.
Hoot.
I got my t-shirt last weekend and my Tiana pin is on the way.
It's like I'm a 6 year old girl all over again.
I scream at the commercials. :D

(I'm also cosplaying her, lol.)

(And about the royalty thing, through Naveen, she'd be royalty. Because if you listen to "Friends on the Other Side" Dr. Facilier says that he's royalty on both sides. And Naveen is roughly the equivalent to a Greek.)

Liath 12-11-2009 04:42 PM

I definitely can't wait to see this movie! Yay for 2D animation!
One reason I like 2D animation better is because the plots tend to be more developed. I mean, one thing about 3D is that it lets them get away with lamer plots. Think about Cars and Over The Hedge. Those could never have done very well if they had been 2D animation.

One thing that I think makes it seem racist as well is that Tianna sounds like a black girl's name, so a lot of people feel like the fact that they gave the black girl a black name makes them racist. It might have helped if they named her Diana or something perfectly ordinary and didn't try too hard.
When her name was originally Maddy, they thought it sounded too much like a derogatory term or something, so they changed it. But i don't like the name Maddy anyway, 'cuz it seems boring, so whatever.

She was suppose to be a maid? I don't see why that should be rasict. Well I do but what I mean is that people of color in those times would have had the less desired jobs. It's not a rasict comment to think so its part of history's darker side towards black people. I don't know if people in poorer classes would have had the money to have their hair done. So maybe they did make it straighter so it would look nice.
I do wish people wouldn't be so picky about some things. Yes there are things that are rasict but some things people had to say about this movie were a bit extreme. Much to the point that their opinions have changed the more historic facts that were going to be in this movie. It probably would have been better if they left it alone. But I know part of being a proffesional is tackleing the task of trying to please everyone. TUnfortually a down side to this is that the results often end up being only sub-par. Things will almost always turn out to be better or even great if people left out some of their opinions. It's frustating to hear that The Frog Princess was another victom of this process.
Regardless I still want to see this and hope it's as good as it looks dispite the chagnes. I'm just so glad that 2D animation is finally back at Disney. They've had so many 3D flubs that it's about time they've learned they're not good at it. Leave that to Pixar and Dream Works.

PixieWings 12-17-2009 10:16 PM

I can't wait for this movie! :)

Lilith W 12-18-2009 10:06 PM

I went and saw it yesterday and loved it.
It was similar to other Disney movies but what one isn't?

PixieWings 12-19-2009 03:01 AM

Cool! Now I want to see it even more.

Rabid Rainbow 12-22-2009 02:03 AM

*flails*

I saw this on Friday and have been OBSESSED with it. I already want the DVD in my collection RIGHT NOW.

ASDLKFJASDFJKFDLSA; Seriously, if you're a Disney fan please go see the movie. The music's great, the characters are awesome and funny, the animation is gorgeous, and the general storyline manages to hit that perfect medium where the kids love it but there's lots of tidbits and stuff for the older fans to like.

Also, I am obsessed with Prince Naveen and Charlotte LaBouff (Tiana's friend, who is about the funniest character in the moive IMHO).

ALSO also, it takes place in New Orleans in the 1920s (my favorite decade for fashion ever!!!!!) so I was loving all the outfits on the girls.

lightkanna 12-22-2009 03:28 AM

I want to watch it so bad. It's back to the things I love from Disney. Animated movies and how awesome it is. Disney should do more of 2D animation. :D I love all the 2D animation they did, it's amazing then butter. Haha, Amazing then butter...right. I don't know if I would be able to watch it in the cinemas. Because I need money and I don't - I have 20 dollars but my brother gave that to me. I am going to get more money, my sister put my present and an envelop in there. She stopped by and did that. :D I am excited and can't wait to open it up. Anyways, Back to the topic. At least it's not another 'white' princess. I mean, if you think back then they were all white and at least she isn't and that's good because all the Asian's have Mulan as a princess and they have her. The black people I meant. Okay, I think I am sounding racist. I should just stop...

Erailea 12-25-2009 03:14 AM

I saw it last night. It was amazing. They did such a great job of developing every aspect of the film. It had its humor and its serious parts. It was definitely a movie in the classic image, fun for people of all ages and with great morals too. I loved the villain, he was creepy and you absolutely loved to hate him. I have to agree with the sentiments of him being one of Disney's best villains.

The animation was great, the character development was believable, the story was dead on and heart felt in many aspects. The musical score was superb too.
