Ah, who doesn't love scary movies? the thrill, the gore, etc.
Too bad I've only seen like two in my lifetime, mostly at friends' houses since my parents prefer watching Paris By Night over american films.
So my knowledge is limited, and I need to help my friend find a scary film to watch during Halloween!
So any suggestions on scary films? Looking for more plot then gore, cause I love a good story line like in Shutter or One missed call [the two I've only seen xD yet surprisingly haven't scared me]
And what do you guys love about scary movies? any favorites?

"Amityville horror", "A haunting in connetict", "Chuckie" (when he first started out), "Saw 1-5", "Friday the 13th", "Nightmare on Elm street", "Texas Chainsaw masacre", "The exorsim of Emily Rose"
I recomend those, some I might have speeled slightly wrong but a few are based off of true events, which in my oppion are by far the best

I've heard of the Haunting in Connecticut and the Exorcism of Emily Rose, thanks formy reminding me of them!
I'll run them by my friend, though she wants to see gore, though I'm mostly for creepy stories :]

"Exorcism of Emily Rose", all the "Scream" movies, "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (both old and new), "28 days later", "Resident Evil" (all three had their moments), "A Haunting in Connecticut", "Halloween" (all the old ones were much scarier, the new ones are just blood baths), "Friday the 13" (all, gatta love Jason), "Nightmare on Elm Street" (all, gatta love Freddy), "Freddy VS Jason" (not really scary, but still worth mentioning)... um.. I dunno I love horror movies, I've laughed through all the ones I've mentioned. ^.^

Thanks for all the recommendations<3
I'm really curious about the Exorcism of Emily Rose, hopefully we'll watch that, though it's based on a real life occurrence right? Or was that another movie?

I heard it was very closely based on a real occurence which is what made it SO scarey. I'm telling you, if you watch this movie, do noootttt watch it alone haha this is seriously one of the scariest movies I have EVER seen!

I'm a bit scared just thinking about it since I'm new to the whole scary movie scene and Shutter/One Missed Call isn't really scary....so I need to experience my first real one xD

Aren't chick flicks all the same....? I mean, there's the girl (who's usually a loser) who likes the guy but has to fight off the mean popular girl...
Horror movies at least have some sick twists. >D

My favorite scary movies:
The first three are older, but classics ~
The Shining (ALL TIME FAVORITE - this movie is just SO awesome and scary.)
The Birds
Cujo
More recent scary movies just aren't that scary... But I did like Saw (the original. The rest have been awful.), the Hills Have Eyes, Se7en (this could be considered a thriller I guess, but I'm still listing it here).

I LOVE horror flicks! They are my drug. lol
We just recently watched "Paranormal Activities" in theater..its freaking sweet. I seen so many it isn't funny..the scarier the better...although I prefer the psychological fears better then the gory ones. Lots of Blood and naked chicks do not make a horror flick.

I'd have to recommend some Stephen King (lol, I'm such a stephen king fan)
It (definitely a must see, shivers - I'm getting the book posted to me now)
Cujo (more of a psychological horror- you'll understand when you see it)
Carrie (old school lol)
There is this other movie called "The Mist" of his, but I found it kind of too, creepy (like sad too) so I guess if you wanted to watch it you still could, but warning, it's kinda heart breaking as well as spooky/scary
That's just some of his, lol... he's made heaps... more books too (I hope they turn "Cell" into a movie, that would rock)
Some others that you might like
The Happening
Road Kill
I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
There's heaps really

I just saw The Haunting in Connecticut and it was freaky! I think they should have went into more detail about Jonah and exactly who Adkin was and his fascination with necromancy.

Well, what scares you in real life?
Find a movie about it. xD
Most of the movies listed here weren't scary at all, in my opinion. Mainly because what happens in them doesn't really scare me. Event Horizon and The Thing are two of my favorites. There's nowhere to run! That's what gets me.
Stuck in a Jason movie? Scream? Anything like that? Stop your yelling, run, look where you're going so you don't trip, and get to the police station! The odds may be stacked against you, but there's still actually a chance of getting away!
Stuck in space (Event Horizon)? Stuck in the Antarctic (The Thing)? Sorry, you're screwed. xD
1408 was alright too. It also played on the whole being trapped thing. I can't lie though; I like most horror movies out there if for nothing more than the gore. If you want to actually get scared though, just google for movies based on whatever you actually fear.
