So, I saw a preview of that movie, got interested in it's claims and did some research. I've found nothing on the Doctor that Milla Jovovich is supposed to be portraying.
I did find, however domains made on the day the previews came out regarding information on the movie. But the dates on the page claim that it was made in the late 90's.
Does anyone think what they're doing to the families of Nome is wrong? Do you not really care? Does the fact that they made all of these websites as a hoax make you want to see the movie any more/any less? Discuss. :3
I heard that the based on real events thing is just a marketing campaign. I am not so much into alien abduction type movies but this one seems interesting.
The movie combines supposed real footage and dramatic re-enactments of a psychological study by Dr. Abigail Tyler.
There was some extremely disturbing scenes in the movie and it definitely left you with a lot of questions as to the truth but my over all impression was that the woman (Tyler) was extremely psychologically disturbed. Though whether she was before the events that were supposed to have occured, there really is no way of knowing.
I will say being both from Alaska and being a person with pretty severe sleep problems (what the original study was supposed to be about) was a bit disturbing. O.o
In this day and age though, with the technology we have, it's actually pretty easy to discount video and audio footage being so easy to manipulate. I was reminded of the incidents in the early 80's of psychiatrists who had manipulated patients under hypnosis into believing they had been victim to satanic cult activities and the many accounts of supposed possessions where people were said to utter in dead languages, usually accounted as Sumerian and that many recorded activities starting at 3:33pm.
Any psychologist practicing in 2000 would have been aware of these accounts (in the 80's) and she could have manipulated her own patients using hypnosis as well.
The human mind is unfortunately easy to manipulate into believing just about anything and a sleep deprived mind even more so.
I would love to know what conclusions others that have seen this movie have come to, and if you think she managed to fake everything, what do you think happened to her daughter?
I thought the fact about the FBI's visits to Nome were interesting, though we thought a more plausible explanation ( complete conjecture) could be that there are people under FBI protection being kept there, what better place to protect someone than Nome where the only way in or out is by plane or boat, both of which are easy to watch and keep record.
I'm really interested to hear what other people thought of this movie.
um.... its not real, just like that movie Paranormal Act. that was FAKE but it had you jumping from time to time lol. I looked it up on the net and found nothing on the people.....i hate "based on true storys" movies.......blah
Although the truth of the movie is in question. They never actually went out and stated that it was truth..they said it was based off true events; that is true. There are a lot of mysterious disappearances in Nome,AK. Most of those are Native American men. I found one link in my research on this that has some levity in the story
It doesn't mention anything about aliens, either. I think the purpose of the movie was to feed those alien buffs. Personally, I do believe that we are not the only beings in this universe. I don't believe that aliens would be these lil green men either.
I saw the movie with my boyfriend.
It was so scary to me.
But it scared him worse for some odd reason.
Poor thing had nightmares for 2 days
:(
Still
It was an okay movie, kinda confusing at first.
But, it is well played in a sense, and the acting is good.
And it is freaky.(:
The people screaming in the preview, you know how raise up a little from their seat or bed or whatever they're on? My friend said it looks like they're being anal probed.
This movie would be something I would watch if I could watch alien movies without getting nightmares. I would have to read more about it to see if the families of Nome were being wronged in any way.
