Daybreakers

So I saw this trailer the other day on youtube about vampires. The premise of the movie being, what if everyone was a vampire and that humans were farmed for blood. Then after awhile the humans were becoming extinct because they were all being used up. There would be vampire wars and the humans that are left that are free are hunted down and captured for their blood. It looks like it would be a very interesting movie. I kind of thought, well, why can't they just use the animal blood? Well at any rate you should look up this movie and check it out because the effects do look pretty interesting. I hope they movie lives up to the hype the trailer gives it. I see movies all the time that have the best parts of it in the trailer and then when you actually see the movie it's a total let down. I have to admit, I probably will actually go to the theatres to see this one. I think it will be a nice change up from the "Twilightesque" movie format that everyone seems to just really go crazy and bonkers for. I like real vampire movies like this one. I hope this one does not let me down.

I saw a preview of that when I went to see Avatar. Honestly I thought it looked interesting, but not enough to really make me want to spend ten bucks to see it.

And I can't help but think that the mutated vampire they showed looked a lot like the creature from Underworld: Evolution. The premise looks really interesting though since it's a problem that I don't think a whole lot of vampire movies and books address.

Looked good to me, and I am not aware of anything else like it. I've seen the sappy vampire love story done to death, and this movie looks like a nice change of pace. Also it's something I thought of when I was ten. If everyone became a vampire their species would die out, because they would have no food.

Although in some of the myths that wouldn't kill them so much as make them extremely weak. You have to wonder how we have gotten into this vampire template that all of the writers use today. The first vampire stories were more akin to zombies than what we have.

It really does suck to go just to see a new movie it costs ten dollars, I usually just wait until the movie comes out. I go to the movies four times a year usually but living on a tight budget really makes one even choosier on the movies they go out to see. I kind of thought of the whole underworld revolution thing when I saw that mutated vampire as well.

@sarofset ~ Yea I agree about the whole sappy love stuff with the vampires. I get so sick of seeing that. I'm kind of glad to see an action film with vampires. I remember when vampires used to be frightening and now a days the thrill and scare has kind of just worn off the whole public fear factor they used to exert. I remember there was one vampire movie that really looked good awhile back that took place somewhere where it was cold and they were cold blooded killers and very powerful. Well anyways I always thought of why don't they go after animal blood like Louis did in Interview with the Vampire? Well I guess we will get that author or directors whole take on vampires since mopst people usually have their own intrepretation on vampires.

I went and saw this movie. I liked the movie but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be.
There were a few plot holes and a few times I just went "duh" but I still like it.
I would give this movie a 7 out of 10.

Imaginative Sarah 01-22-2010 04:33 AM

Usually, unless I hear fans raving about it I like to hear it is a nine out of ten before I will be willing to spend ten bucks to go see it. I probably will just wait until it comes out on dvd.

@Imaginative Sarah ~ What did you not like about it?

Daybreakers was one of the most disappointing films iv'e ever seen.

I saw it two weeks ago and was really looking forward to it, but i came out of the cinema like "That was a waste of time". I'l give you my opinion without any spoilers. I thought the ending was just pointless, its just kind of stopped, there was no solution to the problems faced, it felt like it was only half a film. Also the story focused too much on the boring parts and glossed over the exciting parts. Some of the effects were good, but some terrible. The special effects when slaying vampires in daybreakers was terrible compared to True Blood, which im sure had a much smaller budget. I felt like the whole movie hadn't really been thought through properly.

That sounds disappointing, and I totally get what it is you're saying. I hate movies that do that. Now because you said that and a couple others have said some not so flattering things about it, I think I will just wait until it comes out on DVD and red box it for a dollar.

I saw it few days ago too haha it was so lame. Well not maybe lame, when the vampires were exploding (especially in the beginning hahaha), but seriously it was such a cliché. Nothing special. It was so predictable and foreseeable D: angst

i saw this movie a week or so ago it was pretty good though kind of slow at times.

Seiki Nova 02-11-2010 09:02 AM

I have this movie on my computer right now actually xD

I didn't really want to see it at first, but I went with it. It's not tragic. It could have been better written, but I think the actors did well with what they were given under the circumstances.

Runes 02-16-2010 04:49 PM

I loved it. But I'm huge Sam Neill Fan. I liked to ending. It made sense to me. They really couldn't do anything about the problem. It was something thy would have had to think about and work out a plan for. To just go to that state of hunger be killed and then have then have the "Cured" people have the same thing happen to them would be a waste. The Cure might be the next stage of the movie and then getting it out there might be the third. I liked the fact that it doesn't feel rushed.

Nephila 02-20-2010 01:38 AM

I'm planing on seeing it when it comes out on dvd. The name though makes me giggle a bit because in Canada a "Daybreaker" is a popular breakfast combo at a popular greesey spoon chain (Salbury House).

Sammy Hatter 02-25-2010 11:40 PM

Holy Crap that movie was amazing! VAmpires done right for the first time in the longest, i honestly think this movie undoes all the trash that twilight has done to vampires and what we expect them to be.

Spasmodic 04-20-2010 05:30 PM

I saw Daybreakers and I thought it was amazing! I personally hate all the crappy vampire flicks that have come out and been "twilighitisised" (VAMPIRES DO NOT SPARKLE! :squee:) so I was not looking forward to seeing this but my friends dragged me along.

I have to say I was pleasantly suprised, I thought Daybreakers was amazing! I love how you see the true effects of vampireisim in people and that they burn in the sun (NOT SPARKLE)

I have to say I deeply love Elvis, he was by far my favourite character "We're The Guys With The Crossbows" had to be the best line in the movie.

Draciolus 04-20-2010 05:42 PM

I liked this movie. It made sense, and showed the true nature of Vampire meets Sun. SIZZLE-POP!

Spasmodic 04-20-2010 05:55 PM

I loved the burning sound that it made when the vampires came into contact with the sun, though of course nothing beats the screams when trying to cure vampireisim, that is just amazingly funny

PrincessBane 04-21-2010 01:01 AM

I LOVED this movie. If vampires really did rule the world, I'd imagine that it'd be something like this. I thought the movie was well-made and the effects weren't half-bad. I really enjoyed the storyline and I was like.."finally, a good vampire movie." This hasn't happened in a very long time and the story's pretty original.

Spasmodic 04-21-2010 03:23 PM

Yeah, I agree an orginal story with "properly" portrayed vampires is a very rare thing, I was also really impressed with it.

PrincessBane 04-27-2010 10:50 PM

I know, right? D: They truly showed the vampire's nature..and there were a good handful of awesome actors in that movie. 8D
