The Real Nikki 05-07-2010 04:14 PM

StarWars wins. End of debate.

perpetual_migraine 05-07-2010 07:09 PM

Oh yeah, I LOVE Star Wars!

lastemoon 05-07-2010 07:12 PM

love the old school versions of both. The new ones are like... eh. whatevs. lol I'm gonna go watch the Trouble with Tribbles from the old startrek now :)

Louis duLac 05-07-2010 08:38 PM

Star Trek FTW. I wasn't a Star Wars kid growing up. Most other Star Wars fan goes apeshit when I mention I liked Jar Jar Binks character, so I quickly fell out of that fandom soon after finding it in high school. :/

Draciolus 05-07-2010 08:50 PM

They each have their strong points. But personally, I dont have a preference.

Absolutely!! I grew up during the Star Wars fandom since Return of the Jedi came out a year after I was born. I remember when I was four people were still crazy hyped over it. I had C-3PO PJs! I loved those PJs... wonder whatever happened to 'em....

But I also grew up around Star Trek and love that series like a bad habit. I've never been able to choose a favorite of the two.

Xai 05-07-2010 09:56 PM

I haven't seen either, but I think I would rather watch Star Wars.

Hermes 05-08-2010 03:57 AM

Ummmm, they're kind of incomparable.
Star Wars is a fantasy/space western exploring 'the human condition' through motifs of dark and light, and Star Trek is more modern science fiction exploring 'the human condition' through like, supposed realism.

Bearzy 05-08-2010 05:24 AM

I haven't actually watched star treck.. but I loved starwars.

Sizzla 05-08-2010 01:40 PM

I'm going to move this on over to the media forum where it belongs.

For my personal preferance I like Star Trek more. I was brought up around it. I like the chracter development and the interaction between the humans and other races. I think part of why I didn't like star wars was because of the whole "save the princess" thing it had going on. As a young woman I enjoyed being able to relate to Dr. Crusher and Counsiler Troi's strength.

Hermes 05-09-2010 07:16 AM

Another example of how Star Wars is classic fantasy and Star Trek is trying to be more realistic. =P

I like your post and agree with you, but am going to give an answer to this thread anyway.

I prefer Star Trek. I saw all the Star Wars movies and stuff, but they were just okay to me. I grew-up with them, too, so I should be biased towards them, but I'm not. Star Trek is just better. It made me addicted to it the moment I started watching it.

It has much more lovable characters, for one thing. The Star Trek movies were also better, in my opinion, than the Star Wars ones.

Wonder Woman 05-21-2010 02:32 AM

On a personal level I enjoy Star Trek more (though I do love them both) just because of how expanded on the universe is and a lot of the subject matter it deals with. It's had a lot more room to draw me in.

That said, I don't think that the two are in any way alike aside from having the word "star" in both titles and space being involved, and I've never really understood why the two are so often compared.

Hermes 05-21-2010 06:40 AM

Thank you Enchanted Tiara.

I realized just now that I have to say I prefer Star Trek. I mean, I love both equally, but since Star Trek is a TV show and I get to watch it regularly and see new things, statistically, I've got way more hours of enjoyment out of it than Star Wars. xD

LOL. There's that, too, I definitely agree.

Although I guess you can get a lot more enjoyment out of star wars if you buy the books and play the video games and things. There's all those continuities and stuff. I just haven't done any of those things myself.

Hermes 05-22-2010 10:21 PM

Bah! Books! I only read obscure books and classics. I've read a single Star Wars book, and a single Star Trek book. Both of them were decidedly 'best seller,' so I'm not gonna read more.
Not to mention I'm not going to read a series with titles written by William Shatner.

misu kappuke-ki 05-23-2010 07:19 PM

star wars :)

KamenRiderNadeshiko 05-24-2010 01:16 AM

I'll go with Star Wars, mostly because I have never watched Star Trek.

Stefania 05-24-2010 01:23 AM

Starwars to the 100%. The only thing that I am upset with at the moment is they are remaking 4, 5, and 6.

Hermes 05-25-2010 04:22 AM

No, I don't believe that. D: What?

Edit, I've looked this up and have seen no evidence Star Wars will be remade.

Rabid Rainbow 05-25-2010 09:04 PM

The original Star Wars trilogy is definitely my first love, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that I first saw it when I was three or four years old so there's definitely the nostalgia factor there. I first saw Star Trek when the reboot movie came out a year ago and I've been a huge fan ever since, although I'm more a TNG girl than a TOS girl.

But overall, I love the story of Star Wars more than Star Trek. I love the fantasy of it, I love the characters, I love their relationships, I love the music...you get the idea. Star Trek is fun and all but it doesn't quite appeal to my imagination the way Star Wars does. Plus, it doesn't have the nostalgia behind it for me.

But really, they are both excellent franchises, and they're just different enough that it's almost not fair to compare them.

Demon_of_the_Sand 05-31-2010 04:52 PM

Darth Vader, Luck Skywalker, Princess Leia, CHEWY, Ewoks, Yoda, Han Solo, R2-D2, CP30, Boba Fett vs. the debate over who's a better captain really people Star Wars is way better

Esturan 06-01-2010 10:53 PM

I'd have to go to with Star Wars. I've never really seen Star Trek but I've an episode here and there. Star Wars seems better, it just seems that it would be more realistic. However Star Trek is more into the future I guess with the teleporting and all. But Star Wars has some awesome puppets esp. Yoda who eventually became CGI for the prequels. The Ewoks were awesome too, they'd have to be my favorite minor characters in the series.
